Pattern of Complaints

BBB files indicate a pattern of complaints concerning marketing and billing practices of STAR Exemption Advisor. Multiple consumers, many of which are new home owners, say that they received and filled out an application from STAR Exemption Advisors to file for the STAR Program in Nassau County. These consumers claim that the application they received looks very similar to Nassau County’s STAR Program form. Despite the fact that filing for STAR exemption in New York State can be done for free, consumers that filled out Star Exemption Advisor’s application reportedly receive an invoice from the company with charges for a processing fee.  Many consumers allege that there is not adequate disclosure of this business not being affiliated with a government agency. Several consumers that have not paid the company are allegedly being taken to small claims court to collect the processing fee.
