My experience with MetLife's Pet Insurance program was nothing short of miserable. As Geek's health issues mounted I'd get paid out my max benefits pretty quickly, and to that end MetLife did the bare minimum. However, as he was nearing the end of his life, they decided to burn bridges with us completely. We were informed that there was a special benefit form with a 1 time benefit to cover end of life expenses for the amount of $500, and when sent the form it looks notably different from the standard claim form. I filled it out while grieving the loss of my best friend (which MetLife would probably say is a cringe thing to say) and assumed I wasn't, at best unfortunately misinformed, and at worst, actively lied to. I was also told that the form needed to be filed before ending my policy, as it would be safer to ensure that it was processed correctly. The form was filed as soon as I received my receipt for the euthanasia, which was unfortunately almost a week later, but I appreciate that the euthanasia company gave me breathing room before confronting the reality of it all. MetLife then proceeds to drag its feet until two days after charging me for another month's coverage for Geek, who was, in fact, deceased, and then also rejected my claim saying my maximum was reached. Naturally I was disgusted, how do you dangle a carrot in front of a grieving family, and then also steal their wallet before taking away the carrot too? After multiple heated exchanges MetLife at least payed us back for the extra month of coverage because they're not idiots, just soulless and concerned about a lawsuit more than helping people. They told us, however that we will never be getting paid for that 1 time claim form, which invalidates the purpose of the claim form. There's a major failure of communication, education, and humanity at MetLife, and I would encourage everyone to take their business elsewhere.

What a joke. Unable to use Short term disability due to needing a three month notice, but with new employer the plan would not kick in until 3 weeks prior. Why pay for something that can't be used.

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. This is definitely a Too good to be true situation, which I find very unfortunate since senior citizens are being suggested this insurance. After one year and a half I was finally approved, I have paid more than they will be paying on my account. You are better off staying away from NCD, whether associated with Nationwide or Metlife. The work hasn't been done, no impressions made yet, since I finally was approved in January and diagnosed with a brain tumor in February.

MetLife refuses to pay my dental claims because it says I have dental insurance with another insurer. I get my insurance through my employer, and my employer switched from Cigna to MetLife. I have never been double insured and have even submitted the termination letter from Cigna. I do not understand how MetLife cannot comprehend this. MetLife refuses to acknowledge any of this, so I am essentially uninsured. Having MetLife is actually worse than being uninsured because I am paying for the privilege of having my claims denied while also paying out of pocket for dental care. If your employer switches to MetLife, prepare for endless frustration with their useless customer service department.

I wish I could give the a negative star. Unprofessional company. I have been dealing with them trying to get them to make a payment for my sons braces since Dec. They use excuse after excuse. First the check got lost and then the payment never got sent out. Now they had the wrong tax id number. I tried 2 times to talk to a manager and no one was available. Unbelievable. I am not happy and tired of not getting answers. Don't use them. They need better training.

Short term disability claim not paid since the end of January (covering the week of January 23rd to January 30th) . I'm constantly told 5 days to review medical information sent. They received information again for all my visits since the claim began on 3/12/2025 today is 3/23/2025. I use old math skills and come up with that being 7 business days and 4 weekend days to relax and let my bills pile up. My requests for claim manager to contact me with specifics on what is needed or to prompt my doctors office if they don't send right away go unanswered. I'm at wits end. I have used all of my leave time and bill collectors are getting antsy. I agree that ZERO stars is a more appropriate assessment of their service and commitment to their customers.

I was struck with a debilitating illness that left me with 24/7 vertigo among other severe symptoms, and the process to apply for, substantiate, and receive MetLife's Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance, which I'd paid into for 12 years while serving at a national non-profit with a mission to expand employment opportunities for Americans with disabilities, was insulting, disingenuous and dehumanizing. I'm still owed money on my legitimate claim that MetLife eventually approved.
