1 starThey company automatically changed me from paper notice and notifications to online. Calling the company results in them dropping/losing the call and not calling back. Trying to get account information and close an account in after four calls all result in a hang up or lost call on their end resulting in no way to close an account.Review fromJames M

My company have information to then and the claim manager did not do her job in a timely manner and after multiple tries to contact with no contact back. After I was due for my payment on Sept 1 and selecting starting a new claim everyday I called and a while week they day they sent a check I have never received that check and it is 7 days later. You can give whatever excuse you want mail does not take that long you did not mail it like you said that day. And so after maybe more hours in the phone the last few days was suppose to get a first deposit 9/12 my bank says they have no pending transaction. Say what you want but if you did truly send it then it would show pending at my bank I spoke to the head person at my bank over this matter. Now it is the 13th of the month and got no where today either but lies. And now after being bullied this long my mental health is gone and I gave had my electricity shut off my house is about to foreclose in and my back is gonna to my vehicles because I keep telling them I will have the money like I'm told and lied to and bullied more. It is real people big companies don't care and will bully anyone. I hope this finds the president ******* that is living without a care in the world why we are struggling and being lied to of he wants to make it right he will listen to all my voicemails and calls and call me directly to make this right which is to settle with me but we all know that won't happen. So maybe we can get this to the news cuz I have no lies in this and am being bullied by a big company that has made me lose everything including my mental health in this. I didn't ask for my eyes to s**** up and have surgery but it happened and sucked now with these guys not paying and bullying I have lost more. So give some bs exist like you have on the phone and in the other reviews I have seen. They didn't care about anyone but themselves and yet still are in business this needs to endNew York Life Insurance Company

We regret that the customer had a poor experience with our **********************. We understand his frustration and hope he can understand it is our goal to administer the policy according to its terms. Our goal is to issue consistent benefits without any delays. However, we conduct an investigation and often are waiting for supporting documentation to approve benefits. According to our review, the customers benefits have now been approved and he is paid through current. We show that the check issued on 9/6/24 has been cashed and his electronic funds transfer information is accurate. In addition, the customer has spoken to his Claim Manager and the Team Leader on several occasions throughout the life of the claim. Should the customer have any questions, they may contact our Claim Manager, *******, with any questions.Review fromKathy B

1 starYou have to beg them to review paperwork. No matter what you are going through, it is up to you to follow up. They take no accountability or responsibility for their shortcomings. They are not to be trusted with the care of administering a person's leave. This work requires compassion and understanding. They exhaust you to the point of wanting to give up. Cancer. Still fighting for FMLA approval since July. This should not ever be the case. Having to beg and plead with them to do the bare minimal.Review fromAlice F

1 starThis company took two payment I made to them, then claimed they hadnt received it. They did not want to see evidence that I did make those payments. They even had locked me out of my account so that I would need to call them to pay again the two payments I had made. For anyone out there their agents do not want to help at all, they kept asking for the two payments I had made to them. They kept all the money I have paid to them and still refuse to clear this problem. This is a HORRIBLE !! Company to deal with.Review fromJose S

Today is 9/4/24, my benefits for *** should have started back in 8/5/24, when I have exhausted all use of temp disability on 8/4/24 my file been is been open since feb 20/8/24 you would say a responsible agent or for that fact not only the "case manager *******" but the broker in charge of ********* files. I'm so sure she is always behind with all her cases or she is targeting me because I'm hispanic? I have received call about 3 to 4 weeks before my short term disability was going to end so you can get the information necessary to continue my benefits, then I was called by a gentleman requesting me to send some information, some sign documents that would include help with SSI process for free, a LETTER signed by me guaranteeing return of any and all funds if there would be needed to an "adjustment on benefit" against me. What for? Since I've started my benefits on February of 2024 after a bad fall and after 2 open back surgeries and neck, no income other than counting on NY Life, I cannot count on you and I will let everyone I know about my experience with NY Life, specially with your unprofessional case "manager" *******. Toooo big of a title. She is a bad as best "a bad claim processor" and because her unprofessionalism of talking to CLIENTS by speaker phone, pushing to cut the call telling you, yeah, yeah all is good and check is on the way we are just waiting on one Dr. *** with your records and all is good". When I spoke to ****** Perseval, a gentleman and a profesional where he explained all the intent and expectations that the check may be late by about few days. I proceeded to send all needed attachments including the reimbursement policy and copy here as attachment!!!! Please move this email to an Official Complaint. So I went ahead and Paid myself for it and sent on 8/29/24 so the ********* can send it and it was sent last week where I still have not received any funds and broke thanks to the incompetence of processors like and asking more than need it.New York Life Insurance Company

We are sorry to hear that **************** has been frustrated by the handling of his claim by our claim staff. Feedback has been provided to the appropriate management for any necessary coaching for our staff. Please note, as of September 4, 2024 ******************** claim has been denied. Detailed letter has been sent to him on our decision, including his appeal rights.Review fromEric R

So far in my experience with this company they are disorganized, ready to collect on everything unready to answer anything, and their agents will hang up on you. My grandma wanted me to take over the profile, seems like no big deal, but to AARP you neither as well have never tried. Because my grandma isn't near me and she doesn't know how to call and do any of that. So, I can't do anything with my supposed policy except send them money over mail because I can't access the website. I can't take ownership of the account, because they can't even find my grandma's account using her social security number. So basically, they expect me to just send them money, not have any access to any information, and not let me go online or register? Ya thanks for taking $10 from my grandma every month for the last 20 years and then threaten to close out the account because I'm old enough to take it over, when I can't even access it, my grandma can't, who can? This is literally a scam far as I can tell. Or I'm just getting really inept customer service agents who hang up rather than try to solve the issue, which is an issue of its own type considering it sounds like they outsource all the help to people with accents you're not going to understand most of the time. Good for the Indian call centers, but I'd figure a company like AARP would want to have easy and accessible customer service so that old people with hearing issues can actually talk to the service agent. Maybe I'm wrong and I just get the strong accents by chance, but probably not it seems like I almost never understand the help and they barely understand me. Good day, AARP can't spoil it as much as they try.New York Life Insurance Company

If there was a business I could personal shut down, it would be this one. NYL is/was my companies STD/LTD provider for us employees. I went out on STD on 4/10 due to abdominal pain and was rushed to the *** I have been undergoing multiple tests and still actively under the doctor's care. They have not figured out what is causing me such immense pain. My STD was approved then "closed" 2 weeks later on 5/31. I have since been fighting with them to get things approved or reopened. It is now 8/7, I have not been paid since 5/31, no one is helping me, I've filed for an appeal and the appeal manager is not answer or returning my calls. I AM SO BEYOND ANGRY AND FRUSTRATED WITH THIS COMPANY! I have had 2 emergency surgies in the last 2 yrs and they were just as much of a pain then. *** needs to figure their stuff out, no one who is sick or healing wants to deal with the stress and phone calls daily due to them not doing their jobs.New York Life Insurance Company

We regret that the customer had a poor experience with our **********************. We understand her frustration and hope she can understand it is our goal to administer the plan according to its terms. The plan requires that we receive proof that the customer is Disabled according to the plan terms. In this case, the medical documentation received to date has failed to provide sufficient proof that the customer is Disabled according to the plan terms. However, the customer has since appealed that decision and our ****************** will conduct a separate review of the claim. In addition, our Appeal Specialist contacted the customer on 8/7/24 and discussed the appeal process and she has elected to submit additional documentation. Should the customer have any questions, they may contact our Appeal Specialist, ******, with any questions.Review fromMike M

1 starMy mother died back in February 2024. She had a life insurance policy through AARP/New York Life. Her health deteriorated to the point she let her bills go unpaid. I did not know that had happened until after she died. When I filed a claim it was denied due to missed payments. I filed an appeal and sent a letter from her cardiologist explaining her condition. The appeal was denied again. The supporting documentation from AARP/New York Life that was sent to me only showed the missed February payment, the month my mother died. AARP/ New York Life should be ashamed. They are both a disgrace.Review fromAnthony M

My mother passed away May 26, 2024. I was her poa before death, and executor after. She wanted her beneficiary changed 5 days before she passed, as her husband (the then beneficiary) was in a nursing home with Alzheimer's. We did this online at her request. We notified them of her death, and sent all requested documents. We have gotten nothing but a runaround and are being told still 2 months later, it is under review. She paid her premiums for almost 19 years, and now they wont pay the small 10k policy. They are making a terrible time in our lives even worse. Would never recommend this company to anyone!New York Life Insurance Company

Based on the information the customer provided we are unable to determine which specific claim they are referring to. We sent the customer an email on August 15, 2024 to obtain more information and try to assist with the concerns they are having. To date, the customer did not respond to provide any additional information we had requested. If the customer is willing to provide more information to us the insureds full name, incident number for their claim, DOB, policy number, etc - we'd be glad to look into this further.Review fromKimberly C

I give them zero stars if it is New York Life Group Benifits Solutions. I worked for Vitro Architectural Glass over 22 years and paid for this benefit. New York Life Group Benifits Solutions is their name. I went out from work in Nov. 2021 due to back issues. Had issues with paperwork being faxed( they didn't have their name or mine on documents, nor fax number, so for three months no income coming in. I was told to get form needed for doctors off ****** and walked through how to get it. They could not tell me how to get form off their website. I put my pension I recieve on all paperwork, and they do not deny that. January 2024 I get phone call telling me my pension offset my long-term disability and they overpaid me $16,****** and want money back. They accept no responsibility for their error. I have filed complaint with *****/Pennsylvania Insurance, a Senator, wrote Vitro HR to no avail. HR said don't have to pay back all at once. My pension less than $620 a month, and just started substitute teachinging. I take over 10+ medcines, utlities, and bills. My last MRI in collections at ****** because couldn't pay $50 a month. I do not have $16, ******. Beware any company using them for short-term/ long-term disability benefits for your company. If it can happen to me it can happen to you!! If anyone can help with this issue would greatly appreciated. God sees all and knows all.*********************************New York Life Insurance Company

We understand the customer's disappointment regarding the overpayment on the claim. We advised the customer that there is no policy provision that allows for us to waive the overpayment, no matter the cause. However, we have indicated to the customer that we are willing to arrange a reasonable reimbursement to lessen the burden on the customer. We encourage the customer to contact our Overpayment Recovery Team to discuss her options.
