We had contracted Scott (owner of Advanced Concrete) to do the concrete pad around our pool with additional concrete needed. He came out on 3/31/23 and quoted us $12,500.00 for the concrete around the pool, an additional concrete pad connecting to the house, a walkway on the side of the house and a small pad for garbage cans. We agreed and paid him $1,000.00 cash the same day after signing the contract. We found out soon afterwards that the walkway was not in accordance with the town and we had to cancel that aspect. After telling Scott, he adjusted and told us that our new total was $10,100.00. He and his crew did the concrete work throughout the week of 5/15/23. On the last day at about 4:00pm when preparing to pour the garbage can pad, they stopped, cleaned up and packed up and THEN knocked on our door to discuss. Their story was that someone from the town had walked up and told them they couldn't pour there. I immediately called the town and left a voicemail asking for someone to call me back and clarify. Scott stated that he would come back in the next week or so to finish the job. I then made the mistake of handing over all of the monies owed without the last piece of the job being done. I trusted him to come back and finish. The town called me back and confirmed that nobody from their office stopped and said anything. After checking my security camera and video doorbell, I confirmed that nobody had spoken to them. It's now August 2nd and he has yet to come and finish. I have had at least a dozen conversations with him on the phone where he stated he would be over to finish. I am having to call from multiple phone numbers because he won't answer my phone number anymore. Over the last few months, I've left dozens of voicemails and have just recently left a voicemail asking for our portion of the garage can pad money back. His contract is not itemized so I don't know how much it is. I would like whatever that refund would be back immediately.

BBB spoke to Scott at the business and the following was relayed: I was willing to include the garbage can pad at no cost because we were there and we had the extra concrete. When we were digging we hit wires that run into the house. We had to stop and I told the customer that he had to call safety dig to get the wire issue taken care of. I had to throw the concrete were going to use away at that time. This was being done at no extra cost, it was not paid for. I would be willing to return and finish the garbage can pad for the customer for the cost of the concrete, I would not charge any labor and he would have to call dig safety first to make sure any wires are out of the way.

Per the contract signed by the owner Scott, the total was for $10,100 which was paid in full. Nowhere does it say on that contract that the garbage can pad was “free”. This is unacceptable.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/24/2023

BBB spoke to Scott at business and the following was relayed: I can give a date I am willing to return, rain or shine, and put in a garbage can pad. I would return on October 25th as long as the customer pays for the concrete and safety dig is called and there. The area needs to be flagged out as I will not be responsible for damages to wire or fines. The cost for the concrete needed is going to be $500.

I am unfortunately not going to be able to do that.  Our contract has a total dollar amount, a drawing of what work was to be done and 4-steps on the concrete process.  It also has my signature and Scott's signature.  Understanding that he made a mistake of removing more money off of the total amount owed than he should have, that is not my fault.  If Scott would have not continuously lied to me regarding finishing the job, I may have understood. Scott needs to honor the contract and complete his job based off of that signed agreement. After I submitted my complaint with the BBB, Scott immediately called me and told me he would come and finish within a few months.  Then he offered me $400 as a refund as long as I closed my complaint with the BBB.  Now all of the sudden not only can he not offer me a refund, he's requesting more money to finish a job that he has already agreed to complete.  Based on other internet reviews/complaints against Scott and Advanced Concrete, this seems to be his normal pattern.  Quote a price, not do the work and then demand more money to finish the agreed upon job.  I will not fall into that trap. To close this, I am requiring the job be finished or an $800 refund from Scott.  This is my final stance.
