I contracted with David White Services to replace my furnace and central air conditioning. They sold me a top of the line Lennox heat pump. They started the project the end of March 2024. During the installation they knocked down part of my drop ceiling in my downstairs. They attempted several time to repair this issue and finally got it not right but acceptable. Through the summer my air conditioning did not work properly and they attempted several repairs before they replaced the unit at the end of the season, so it has not been tested. During the attempts to repair the air conditioning 1 of the employees backed into and damaged my stairs. I took pictures and notified the manager before the employee even told me of the damage. My neighbor seen the accident happen, I did not see it, but I heard it and immediately went outside. The employee had plenty of time to tell me of the accident before I notified the manager and the manager assured me that the stairs would be repaired. The stairs were painted the day before the accident, so all damage was and is very noticeable. They attempted a very unsatisfactory repair. The next problem is a gas leak from the installation. They did come out and verified a leak. I had to shut the gas off to my house for 2 weeks for them to come out and fix it. The worst part is it had been leaking gas for almost a year which I asked them to help me with my gas bill. Today after attempting to get a response for over 3 months they emailed me a reply that they were through dealing with me. I am stuck with dangerous stairs and an outrageous natural gas bill.

Mr. ******** contract was completed on 5/7/2024. On 5/20/2025 we went to address his original concerns about the ceiling tiles but it was never to his liking, as you can see in his original complaint. I have attached a photo of the completed repair. Our installation manager, ***** *********, has attempted many, many times by phone, in person, at the property, etc to address all of Mr. ******** concerns to his satisfaction but this has not been possible. In addition to Mr. *********** time we have sent men 8/15/2024, 9/13/2024, 1/2/2024, 1/23/2024, 2/10/2025. In the moment Mr. ****** is satisfied, but later decides he isn't.
There was a legitimate manufacturer's warranty which we did on 7/9/2024 on the reversing valve, the system we contracted works and has not been the subject of any visits other than this warranty claim from the factory. Our gas piping did not have a leak but because of the increasingly challenging relationship with Mr. ****** we repaired his very difficult to reach existing piping in February of 2025. As for the stairs, we also could not satisfy him with that repair and so we hired a contractor who has done much work for us in the past and Mr. ****** told him he was satisfied with the repair at the time. But yet again, he later decided he was not. Find that attached as well.  If the BBB concludes we have not been reasonable, any additional resolution must include him no longer contacting our company including Mr. ********* as we believe we do not owe anything additional and have already addressed all of Mr. ******** issues in a reasonable fashion.

I'm replying here as I couldn't get the other box to take my response.

BBB transcribed from hard copy complaint form:

David White Ser. came out on 4 different occasions to work on stove. On the 4 time on 2-11-2024 at 3:00am it blew up, blowing insulation out of the stove and shutting off our furnace.

They came out Finally on 3-5-2-24 to check it out, they disassembled it and took stove with them. I thought they would reimbursed me, but when I got a hold of the 3 weeks later said nothing they could do now I don't have anything.

This complaint is with Hearthstone Stoves. We have done all that we can and it is a manufacturer’s issue.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 06/11/2024

I am rejecting this response because: they still have my stove. I purchased the stove 6.5.23 for $7000. In February it blew up, and insulation went everywhere. I called them. After two weeks they sent a tech out on 3.5.24. The tech said, he was taking it. I had to fix the hole in the house.

About two weeks later I called them, and they said it was a manufacturer's issue. Tim told me he wouldn't have it in his home.

I would like to know if they ahve contacted Hearthstone to determine if reapris are covered under teh warranty or if a replacement is due under the warranty.

If they haven't done that, then they should. Or at least provide me with hearthstone contact info, and if it cannot be repaired, they should at least return it.

      Regards,

      ****** ******

Customer has a Hearthstone Bristol 8763-0010DX which we installed in 2023. He called in February of 2024 and said “I want this out of here,” and expressed his fear of the unit. We replied by asking if he’d like to see if we could repair it with warranty parts. He said he was scared of the stove and preferred it to be removed.

We contacted Hearthstone to see what they would offer. Hearthstone gave us a list of things to check and document so we sent a technician and did the checklist Hearthstone asked us for. At the end of that service call Mr. ****** still wished for it to be removed. We then submitted all the photos and documentation that Hearthstone had requested to Hearthstone. They reviewed it and said they would replace parts they felt might be compromised but said it was safe to operate and had a full parts warranty but would not replace it. They would not give money back.

We called the customer and he said he would call his lawyer. We apologized for Hearthstone not meeting his expectations of replacement and we would give him any papers he needed to pursue further action or correspondence with the manufacturer, Hearthstone. We are no longer a hearthstone dealer.

We have stored his stove in our warehouse in the same condition as it was when we removed it in case he changed his mind. He can have the uninstalled stove back as it is if he would like. Hearthstone’s warranty information is: ###-###-#### ****** *****************************

      Thanks ****** ******
