A1 Concrete Cincinnati was hired by me to level my front porch slab. The crew damaged my property causing me to have to now replace the concrete porch to the tune of 5k. They filled the under slab with concrete and in the process broke my porch in half. The owner, Clay came out to look at the porch and promised to fix the break but never followed thru. He lied and insisted the porch was already broken it was absolutely not! The crew that filled under the slab tried to hide the fact that they broke the porch by placing pieces of concrete in the crevice. They also splattered concrete mix all over my drive way and my street. I had to take buckets of hot water and rinse the concrete off the drive and the street so that my neighbors would not have to drive thru it and damage their car tires. Clay is now turning me over to collection with an attorney for 1800.00 I am not paying this company for breaking my porch and causing 5k on property damaged. I never signed a contract with this company . I was never advised of any risks to my property before hand.Business Response

***** ******, by her own admission in the complaint, hired A1 Concrete Cincinnati to level her front porch slab after receiving an emailed quoted, inclusive of photographs and our Terms & Conditions (T&Cs). A-1 received verbal verification when she called to schedule. When our office called to confirm the day before her project was to be done she stated she wanted to cancel due to her 401K money being delayed. We made the decision not to enforce our 48 hour cancelation policy and work with her to pay when she was able to get her 401K money. This is when she texted back “Oh wow! That is fantastic!!! Yes please go ahead for tomorrow! Thank you!" So we had written confirmation as well. Both verbal and written approvals each qualify as legally binding and our T&Cs were in the estimate she reviewed before booking.
In the documented estimate, a red line indicated the spot where the concrete was already cracked prior to lifting. If concrete settles in the center (as hers did) cracks are not as noticeable as when concrete settles on the outsides since the crack “opens” instead of being “pinched” together. This is why we noted it on the estimate and also have a picture below of the crack on the face of the porch prior to lifting. Note- this crack is her only complaint. The porch was lifted back to its original elevation, with correct watershed and a correct step height into the porch. When the lift was complete, our supervisor on-site stated that she looked at it and actually gave him a hug and was very happy. Later when she called about a crack, Clay (Owner), went to meet her to look at it. Clay suggested A-1 actually lift it a little more to make the elevation even better and that we would not only grind and caulk the crack, but would caulk the entire perimeter of the porch where it meets the house at no cost. This was in some sort of attempt to make her happy for what she says was an unexpected crack. A-1 sent a truck out and lifted the porch a little more. Caulking is typically scheduled a few days later after the lift. A-1 scheduled the caulking with her a few days later, and she was expected to pay in full the day when the caulking was completed. When our installer got to her house she was not there and did not have outside electricity which we needed to grind/prep the crack (electricity and water are needed for all jobs and included in our T&Cs). A-1 called ***** with no answer. A-1 instructed the installer to go ahead and caulk the perimeter of the porch to give her an idea of what the caulking will look like, even though we couldn't finish the final agreed upon lift. A-1 left ***** voicemails and emails stating that we needed access to electricity to finish and also wanted her there for payment. We received no response until we sent her a message that a lien would be filed. She called me back and again I stated this needs to be scheduled when she was home and again got no responses. Our final attempt to make contact was through our lawyer sending a letter which is what prompted her to reach out to BBB.See attached documents including original estimate with before photos on page two as well as multiple email and text conversations. Specifically ones of us continually reaching out with her respond being she would see when her boyfriend was available to meet with us but never provided us with a time.
We have several more documents that we would like to submit, one being an email chain starting on Nov 14th again asking for payment to which she again replies she would get with Donny on when he can meet. Two follow ups happened asking if she had a date he was available to which she did not respond to either.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.
THIS BUSINESS OWNER IS HARASSING AND INTIMIDATING ME! I did not deny hiring this company. I was NEVER provided the documentation the owner is referring to before or AFTER they broke my porch slab in two. The porch was NOT BROKEN AT THE TIME A1 pumped concrete underneath it. I would not have asked for the porch to be raised if it was broken in half already… that would be ridiculous on my part. I DO NOT WANT THIS COMPANY ANYWHERE NEAR MY PROPERTY. If they continue to Harris me and move forward with suing me for payment for unacceptable work I will counter sue for the price of replacing my porch which is estimated at 5k and up! I did not examine the work well as I was on my way out the door to go to work. As I previously stated the workman filled the broken crevices with pieces of concrete to disguise the fact the porch broke in half! THE PORCH WAS NOT BROKEN PRIOR AND I HAVE NO SIGNED CONTRACT OR WORK ORDER WITH THIS COMPANY! Anything they are presenting as contractual is fraudulent. I was never or am not ever at any obligation to rearrange my time schedule to accommodate A1 concrete in their effort to rectify the damage they did to my property!
I am attaching a photo of the porch prior to A1 breaking it in half. Again I am NOT paying this company for breaking my front porch in half and causing thousands of dollars of damage…not to mention the recent threats and emotional stress they are be radiating me with. They are making it look like I am trying to get out of paying for acceptable work and that is just not true! I should not responsible for paying for shoddy work that created a new expense for me at almost 3x the amount! I want nothing to do with this company!

At no time has anyone from our company harassed or intimidated *** ******. I assume what she means by this is a notification the we might proceed with a contractors lien on her home. This was after several attempts to get a hold of her with no response. She then called and spoke with me. I again told her we need access to her electric to fix her crack then we need to get paid. We never did file a lien and she again would not return calls. We had our attorney send a letter and her response is to try to affect our standing with BBB. Attached are before and after pictures. The crack is CLEARLY already there it just naturally opened when it was lifted. This is just her ploy to not pay. She states herself that her porch would be $5000 to replace. We lifted the entire porch to its original position and installed caulking along the perimeter where it meets the house. Also we would have prepped the crack in which we need electric to do but she either wouldn’t answer the door or conveniently was gone when she was told we would be there. We did all of this and are only asking for the original quoted price of $1800. I would strongly urge BBB not to post *** ****** unreasonable complaint that has no substance. We have tried to come to a resolution and have been very reasonable with *** ******. To this day the offer is open to *** ****** for us to prep and fix the crack, however, we will expect payment as we have explained to her.
Attached is the original estimate with the proof the crack was there prior to us performing any work at Ms Haynes Property.
The estimate has our terms and conditions listed also. We have also attached after photos of the porch.
Thank you

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.I am not paying A1 concrete for breaking my front porch in half. I will turn this matter over to my attorney and file suit to recover the cost of replacing my porch and damages as a result of this business owner’s bully tactics to harass me for payment for an unacceptable job/business transaction that caused damage to my property. I will also be taking to social media to review my negative experience with A1 concrete and its business owner Clay. I will let other consumers know to beware of this company and their lack of willingness to stand behind their work. Clay had ample time to make adjustments and make this right he continues to lie insisting the porch was broken prior to the work to deflect from his shoddy work . On a side note the slab has sunk 3 inches on the right side of the porch. The work Clay insists that was done correctly is not holding up so there is a new piece to this complaint. I am very tired and stressed trying to explain that my porch was not broken prior to A1 attempting to lift it, again why would I entertain having a porch lifted that was broken into 2 pieces???? the work done resulted in my porch breaking in half into to pieces, Clay came out to my house and gave his word they would make it right , he did not follow thru and is trying to make it look like I am just trying to get out of paying. However, I should not be held responsible for paying for work that damaged my property. I also have no signed contract or work order dated prior to the date A1 originally came to my house. All of the communication I had with this company was over text. I do not want this company coming back to my house I do not want them working at my property period. If I had paid this company I would now be out of 1800.00 with 5000.00 dollars work of damage to my home and absolutely no recourse.

Before photos and porch estimateBusiness Response

The attached estimate is a bid from one of our competitors to lift the porch, not replace it. So we are a bit confused when she said she got a price to replace it. Also the date on the estimate is the same exact date that we actually did the work. So they either looked at it before we arrived that day or most likely looked at it a day or two before then sent her the estimate on June 28th. It also appears they noted the existing crack on the porch as well in the sketch. This is what we have explained to her time and time again. Also a side note they that estimate is over $2000 more than our price for the same scope is work and they would not have done it until they received a deposit. As we explained she stated she was having a delay in receiving her 401k so tried to cancel the day before. We waved the cancellation policy, did the work and told her to just pay us when she received it. We have bent over backwards for ***** and just want her at home to have access to electricity to fix the crack then get paid.
Attached is the invoice sent to ***** on the day the work was completed.
Thank you
