Federal Trade Commission vs. LCA-Vision
The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the governments allegations, which have not yet been proven.
On January 19, 2023, the Federal Trade Commission issued an order requiring LCA-Vision, doing business as LasikPlus and Joffe MediCenter, to pay $1.25 million for using deceptive bait-and-switch advertising to trick consumers into believing they could have their vision corrected for less than $300.
In addition to paying $1.25 million to redress consumers, LCA will be barred from the deceptive conduct alleged in the complaint and required to make certain clear and conspicuous disclosures when advertising LASIK at a price or discount for which most consumers would not qualify. These disclosures include whether the price is per eye, the price most consumers pay per eye, and any requirements or qualifications needed to get the offered price or discount.
On March 15, 2023 a consent order was entered. According to the order, LCA Vision is to pay $1.25 million for using the deceptive bait-and-switch advertising. It also requires LCA to make certain clear and conspicuous disclosures when advertising LASIK at a price or discount for which most consumers would not qualify.
