1 starIf I could give it a 0 I would and I NEVER leave bad reviews. But, after months of filing a claim, 3 different doctors notes, and all of the forms they asked for and then some they still denied our claim. You essentially need a life threatening emergency to happen prior to your trip is what I gathered from the responses we received. My wife became pregnant a few months after we booked a trip to Mexico for a family wedding. We fully intended on going but as the trip came closer my wife was told by her doctors not to go for multiple reasons.
1. The pregnancy overall and being 6 months pregnant.
2. Zika concerns.
3. She was diagnosed with a protein s deficiency which when pregnant can cause life threatening blood clots. This is exacerbated by altitude and long flights.
Nationwide told us that because she didn’t have Zika it wasn’t a reason for reimbursement. You get Zika by traveling to a place with Zika, like Mexico!
Nationwide also told us that since she didn’t have a blood clot that wasn’t a reason for reimbursement too. Again, our doctor wrote a note that clearly stated she could not travel because the flight increased the risk for life threatening blood clots. We are not going to travel or put my wife and unborn daughter at risk for death when the doctors tell us not to.
Nationwide doesn’t care.
But all of these risks and doctors notes and medical visits weren’t enough for nationwide and for that reason it’s a very poor decision for anyone to purchase travel insurance through them and we never will again.Review fromSissy H

1 starI am in the process of selling my home and had a home inspection completed. Inspector noticed water damage in crawl space underneath kitchen and laundry room areas. He stated that there was no standing water visible and the areas are dry, but could see evidence of water damage to the floor joists and subflooring. Insulation was not wet or discolored. He could not find the source of a leak and suggested that I hire a plumber to investigate. I hired a license plumber to come the next day and he went underneath the crawl space to look for the leak and could not find an active leak and stated that everything was dry and there was no visible standing water. I then hired a licensed contractor to come and repair and replace the damaged areas in the kitchen and laundry room. He stated that he could not find a leak and no visible standing water. While removing the band board from the kitchen wall where the sink is located, he found the leak coming from inside the wall from the hot water line. It was a pinhole sized leak. The leak was unexpected as there was never evidence of a water leak inside or outside of the house. The water bill has remained unchanged. This was an unexpected and unforeseen event not related to maintenance and neglect. Most homeowners do not tear out walls inspecting for a leak if there isn’t any evidence of a leak. Nationwide denied the claim based on a slow leak. I would have never known about the leak as it was hidden inside of a wall??? Even after hiring licensed professionals to come look for a leak and they could not find none. Neglect and failure to maintain would be appropriate if I knew about the leak and did nothing about it. As a full time nursing student and single mother of four children, I feel extremely defeated by their decision. Nationwide does not care about their customers, they are only concerned with making money. A friend had this happened to her house and her insurance company paid for it, so nationwide is a joke.Review fromDaniel H

1 starMy late mother had a post-employment retirement health account through Nationwide. Shortly after she passed away in January, I called Nationwide to ask about accessing the money in her account. I was informed I could not withdraw the money directly, but I could file claims against it as her dependent. Months later, I was finally able to submit a claim for a qualified medical expense, and I filled out the claim form exactly as I was instructed by another representative. I was denied, with the explanation that I was not a qualified dependent because my mother never listed me as a dependent.
So long story short, my mother's account will be forfeited, and I am out months of waiting, as well as copies of her death certificate and my birth certificate, which we all know are not cheap to obtain. This whole ordeal could have been prevented had I been told upfront that because she never listed me as a dependent, I could not file claims.
I think it is beyond outrageous that as her sole surviving relative, I cannot access money that I think is rightfully mine. Accordingly, I would never CONSIDER dealing with Nationwide for ANYTHING.Review fromElishia H

I filed a claim. Nationwide sent out a independent adjuster for inspection. They refused to repair the roof only the inter sheet rock. When I asked to see the in dependant adjusters report they refused to share the document stating it was proprietary information. My house and my insurance company? They are not on your side. I will be canceling coverage for four houses and six cars. At looked at Nationwides reviews and you will see they are average at best. Review your coverage and see if you can find something better the cost will probably be less as they are on the high side of cost for average ratings. Not Good Move On.Nationwide

1 starIf I could give a lower score I would. Peter ***** the adjuster will never call back I was working with him and his BOSS ROBERT ****** who does not know much anyway. My mom is 85 she had a roof leak that destroyed 2 rooms and it is pretty much complete except for a few things. I asked Peter not to pay remaining balance to THEIR contractor until he spoke with me to verify that job was complete. But he paid them, they left 2 buckets of roofing sealer a box of about 500 nails and trim work in the back yard, along with shingles on the side of the house. My moms cloths were thrown away by the guys who cleaned out the rooms down to the studs. I sent some receipts to PETER ***** and he will NOT call back it has been 3 weeks now, I always thought Nationwide was a good company but the company is only as good as the people who represent it. If anyone from nationwide would like to speak with me in regards to this I would be more than happy too I'm sure PETER ***** has my number he just doesn't
know how to dial it. worst experience ever. Then they raise my moms insurance almost 2,000 a year, so in closing I would suggest you stay away. if not from the company then from the adjuster PETER ***** and his so called BOSS ROBERT ******. if you hear those names request someone else.

1 starNATIONWIDE IS BY YOUR SIDE, UNLESS YOU ARE DECEASED, THEN THEY STEAL FROM YOU.
My father-in-law passed away 7/3/3023
He had no will and very little assets, only a used car and a very small bank account.
I called Nationwide to send them a copy of his death certificate and cancel his car and renter's insurance and they refused saying, "Only the Executor of the estate can cancel service".
A death certificate is good enough to cancel Life insurance, phone service, utility service and even to file taxes..
NATIONWIDE will not stop taking money from his account and cancel his car and renter's insurance even though we can prove he is dead.Review fromAndrew P

1 starAfter switching to them for a few years and no house claims they send us a letter of non renewal with just over 1 month to get all new house coverage, umbrellas, and autos. The reason for this? Cost of materials has gone up and they now value the rebuild cost to be in-excess of double the estimated value of the house (which was already jacked up the maximum allowable from the covid buying spree in the area). Because we don't have an external monitored 24/7 fire and security system, along with no fire hydrant within 1000 feet they will not insure us. By the way the closest hydrant in our county is 45,000 feet away. We are in a rural district and this is ridiculous, They clearly are inflating rebuild costs, unattainable requirements, along with not providing sufficient notice to customers.Review fromJoshua R

Please don’t use Nationwide. If just one person reads this review and chooses another company it will be a win! I started my home policy on our new build and after they did an in person inspection the underwriters did not like the side entrance steps because they deemed it too “temporary” while we wait for our driveway to be poured. I have spent hours on the phone explaining and even providing a bill for our driveway. Horrible first experience with Nationwide.Nationwide
