I was given an estimate of my out of expense for 2 dental implants to be $1500. Insurance would only pay for a stock cap, but the dentist made a custom cap. I was not made aware that their was a choice of caps that could be used or that the custom cap would be TWICE the estimate given of $1500. Both implants failed and the dentist sent it to collections

The failure of these 2 implants is very unfortunate, but certainly not the fault of this office, nor is it the fault of the Oral Surgery Group that placed these implants.  ******** had a concern that I used custom abutments rather than stock abutments.  I literally couldn't tell you a single dentist who uses stock abutments.  I use custom abutments to provide the best care to each and eveyone of my patients.

We have no solid way of knowing what ********** or anyone else's insurance benefits are truly going to be. Pre-determinations prove to be a moving goal post at best.  We do our best based on our experience, but I don't alter treatment to accomodate insurance plans.  I always treat to the best of my ability.

Further, ******** has claimed the Oral Surgeon has refunded her. This is false. She was refunded a slight over payment, not a refund.  She has been offered new implants by that surgeon at no charge.  They were rewarded for their kindness by ******** not showing up to her appointment to review her situation.

The patient is given a path to succeed with their implant teeth. Not a guarantee. Old habits that lead to tooth failure are often and unfortunately revisited.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ** ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

    Regards,

    ******** *****

i had “concerns “ about the custom abatement because it is DOUBLE ‘the amount of the insurance estimate. Didn’t know anything about the difference and cost because it was never discussed. Sir, you absolutely have responsibility to your patients. It wasn’t like it ran 2-3hundred more, IT WAS ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS more than the estimate! I don’t have several thousand dollars laying around just in case my dentist decides what treatment he does, and cost twice the price you were expecting.  I have not yet requested the total refund from the oral surgeon, but I’m certain they will fulfill their promise, new implants at no cost or a total refund of the previous work completed. I can’t get them replaced because I am still going to have to pay Dr for the $1500 for the failed 2. THEN i will be charged another 3k for the replacement …because i “It didn’t fail because of the dentist, why should he do it a second time for free? He also claims the neither he nor the surgeons are responsible for the failure of 2 implants within a two year period. Yes, that’s right, some “habit” i have resulted in this. When given the options , originally, I decided to go with the Drs recommendation, implants. So I am a smoker, must be the habit that caused this. The good doctor was very aware that I was a longtime smoker, so if the smoking increased the failure rate so dramatically , surely he wouldn’t recommend that?! Not at all surprised that Dr M***** took the high road…kinda like a perpetrator blames his victim!
