    I entereI entered into an agreement with AdvantaClean of the West Side in July of 2024 to have a whole house mold remediation performed, after an onsite review of the project. We walked the entire house and identified areas of concern. He was made aware that the house was built in 1928. I was quoted $13,062.23.
    The remediation of the basement was acceptable and performed as expected.
    When the first-floor remediation was started, I checked on the progress of the work, in that, there was more noise than I would have expected. I was appalled to see that the workers had broken out two large sections of wall, leaving the external brick of the house exposed from the inside of the house. I stopped the workers and asked that no further work be performed until we could review the situation.
    When discussing the issue with the owner the following day it was obvious he had never encountered plaster over clay block. He began to press me on continuing the demo. I told him I would follow the work personally and decide as to whether any additional demo was warranted. He responded by saying “It’s your house.”. I did not approve any additional demolition, opting for surface cleaning only.
    It is my contention that AdvantaClean has limited knowledge of construction in older homes which leaves them unprepared for mold remediation for this type of construction. Additionally, the damage inflicted to my home was costly to repair and, as I found out later, has compromised the structural integrity of the affected walls. As a result of my decision for surface cleaning only, the work was completed earlier than scheduled.
    I was charged and paid the full amount of the contract.
    I would caution anyone with an older home to think carefully before engaging this company.
