May 22, 2024 - A salesperson from Erie Home came to the house to meet with me and talk about the job. The salesperson looked in the attic and then went up on the roof (despite being told that in my state, it is not LEGAL for them to go on the roof. He showed me the photos and then went to his car, got his iPad, and entered details. He then told me about the warranty and stated that the warranty was 50 years on the fiberglass roof. I had my tenant present, and we joked about me being 103 before the warranty expired. He then asked how I planned to pay for the roof and offered financing, which I refused as I had been setting money aside to do the roof . So then he asked to see proof that I had the money to pay for the roof and I provided the proof. Then he stated he had to ask his boss if it was ok. He then started having "problems with his iPad and it kept saying metal roof despite the fact that I was very clear that I couldn't afford a metal roof. He gave me the price of over 22000 for a 900 square foot roof.. But when he gave me the price, it said metal roofing. So then he had to call his boss, and his boss had to do something to fix the invoice, and when it changed from metal roofing to shingles, the price did not change. I asked about it and was told that this was a normal price. It was repeatedly stressed that I needed to have this done ASAP by the sales guy. I asked again about discounts and was told I only qualified for a $1200 discount because I am an essential employee. I also asked why the price didn't change when it went from metal to regular shingles, and there was no response. Then he told me that the singles they were using were going to be made specifically for my house and that the entire roof would get this special membrane on it before the singles were installed, and that this membrane qualified as a roof all on its own and that it was not flammable so if my house caught on fire my roof wouldn't burn. Not enough space for the rest.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 06/13/2024

When he (*****)/ sales rep was talking about the materials they would use he showed me some thick underlayment and stated that this would be used on the entire home and that in the event that the shingles were to blow off this would count as a roof on its own and that it was fireproof so that if my house where to catch on fire the roof wouldn’t burn.  Which I had never heard of and even said oh that’s odd I thought that only metal roofs didn’t burn.

So after asking about discounts and questioning several ***es about the price as why it stayed so high even after it was changed from metal roof to asphault on the ipad. During the entire process they  hold the I pad the entire ***e so you can scroll through and read any of the contract or anything.  He made it seem like my roof was at risk for collapsing if I didnt sign right away and get this taken care of. So despite my concerns I signed. He then told me it would all be sent to me but I didn't receive it and didn't receive it so I kept checking but he said it might be a while because he didn't have cellular service that was good at the house. The contract never arrived and by the ***e I did get a copy of it it was too late to cancel.

Fast forward to the first week in June.  Roll off truck was delivered and placed exactly where I asked for it not to be placed.  So I called about this.  Then my tenant arrived to the house to find warning notices on the doors stating that it looks like a roofing job is going to be started and that they need to have a building permit prior to starting the job.   Do I call them to find out they sent the application to the wrong office.  They then try to cancel on me but then called and got something taken care of with the building permit.  So they arrive on June 4 to do the job.  They were suppose to arrive between 7 and 8 am.  Security camera footage showed them pulling in at about 8:45 am.  They all climb out of the van and are working.  Then about 1 I see on the security camera one of the employees drinking a Michelob Ultra (beer).  After work I arrive to the job site to find a mess and 18 empty cans of Michelob ultra and a few empty bottles of Smirnoff ice .  Broken solar lights that lined the driveway.  A horrible install job.  No calk around the chimney flashing.  It was so bad that I called and demanded that someone from the construction part come and look at it and they were appalled with what they saw.  So now I have  been over charged for a 900 square foot roof.  Lied to about the warranty, lied to about the products,  lied to about what was being done, had to spend hour and hours and days and days dealing with all of this.  I have hired many other contractors in my life and I didn’t have to do or worry about anything.  Now I don’t trust anyone from this company.

A good friend of mine just had a 2200 square foot roof fully installed and it even needed new structural supports for the roof on one side and all sub roof replaced and they paid $15000 .  My tiny roof didn’t even had that much that needed done and was a fraction of the size and costs more.  Something isn’t working out correct.  I feel like once they say how much money was in my savings account they just decide to charge me tons.

I am attaching photos of the alcohol containers they left in the rolls off and I can also attached security camera footage of them drinking on the job.

The sales manager/ site manager (***) was not nice at all and was instead an absolute jerk and wants to do nothing to make any of this better.  He was covering for the sales rep that came out to my house *****.  The construction office offered to put on gutter covers for free claiming a value of $2500 .  I would much rather have a $2500 discount on the job and want it actually priced by someone else as I feel they gave me the metal roof price on an asphalt roof job.   *** stated we already gave you a discount (which was an essential employees discount) and stated he wasn’t giving me anymore discount.

I have zero faith in the work that was done and am even nervous about the crew that is coming to make the repairs and may have to take the day off to supervise as I don’t trust them on the property after the last subcontractors did a horrific job and drank on the job.

I had a witness present during the entire sales persons visit to the house and she has been appalled with this entire thing and all of the false info that was given during his sales pitch.

      To recap :

      1.  Lied about warranty

      2.  Pricing based on metal roof on iPad and never changed when switched to asphalt .

      3.  Lied about materials and what was used and what the products could do (fireproof and counts as a roof)

      4. Roll off truck wrong spot

      5.   Drove over and smashed solar lights in driveway

      6.  Workers van leaked stuff all over my driveway and actually damaged the driveway.

      7.  Roof has to be fixed as they did a horrible rush job and didnt caulk where suppose to and the shingles are not laying right and nailed are through wood on out edges and also up under shingle in one spot that we can see.

      8.  No building permit so I got warnings

      9.  Horrible clean up of job mess left that could have hurt the pets living in the home .

      10. Sales manager/ site manager wants to do nothing to make this right.

      11.  Didn’t get a copy of the contract despite him saying it was sent via the iPad.  I had to ask 3 ***es to get a copy sent to me and by the ***e it was received it was too late to cancel the job.

      12.  Lied to about the seriousness of the damage to the roof.

      13. Contractors drinking on job,  van damage to driveway !

      13.  45 year experienced retired contractor looked at the job and was appalled and stated that the singles were nothing special and that he could get them for about 30 -40 dollars to cover about 33 square foot of the roof and that this job should of cost about $10000 to 11000  maximum .   He was appalled with the quality of the job and shows me where all of the errors where.

This is so wrong and something needs to be done.  This company is ripping people off and doesn’t even have their own contractor they hire sub contractors  who are horrible.

They say they are coming out tomorrow to “fix” the job and literally wanted me to sign off and pay by then sending me photo of the job and that will NOT be happening.

I am rejecting this response because:

Yes the regional guy is working with me but we have not been able to settle on anything as they are still trying to get the roof properly installed.

2nd crew was sent to fix the problems left from first crew and then inspector came and it did NOT pass the inspection so now a 3rd crew has to come out to work on the roof and fix all the issue that are defective.

the Roll off truck that was left in my driveway for several weeks has caused damage to my driveway.  I requested that the roll of NOT be placed in driveway prior to the job but the roll off company put it there anyways and refused to move it.  Now I have that damage to deal with.

never in my 53 years of life have I had to have 3 crews to get a small 900 square foot roof done!

Also I am being told that they can’t offer me much more than $3500 off of the cost of the install or they won’t be able to give me the warranty.  At this rate I am not sure that the warranty is worth the paper it is written on mostly if they still haven’t got it installed correctly after the first crew and 2nd crew and now I need a 3rd crew.

The construction guys Matt and Alex have been great and want to make it right but the subcontractors can’t seem to get it right.

This has been a nightmare experience and we are closing in on a month since the job started.

The longer this goes on the more absurd it is getting.  Like for example a a local contractor was over and saw the underlayment they used and said that the underlayment doesn’t meet code and that we require 5/8 thickness and they used 7/16 thickness.  The inspector has recommended that the contact code office to confirm required thickness.   If it doesn’t meet code they will have to tear it all off and start all over.  This has been the nightmare that has just kept on going!

      Sincerely,

Roof was fully replaced, went with this company because they promised safety equipment and experience. Crew showed up with no safety equipment, no harnesses or scaffolding. Couch cushions taped around their knees, and had difficulty questioning or communicating with them ad they only spoke Spanish.
We've had multiple issues with leaks since application, and now found out furnace trouble over the last year was related to roofing caulk that was left in our chimney.
Our furnace luckily has a safety feature that shuts it off and didn't start a fire or carbon monoxide leak. Furnace repair man took the chimney apart yesterday and found 2 large tubes of caulk had completely blocked off airflow causing our carbon monoxide detectors to alarm.

There are a few complaints to be made here ranging from small to large.
I was basically strong armed into signing off on the roofing job before really getting to inspect what work was done. A longer term to inspect really shows that it looks like a rush job for some reason. I wasn't in a hurry.
This level of workmanship resulted in damage to aging gutters on the front of my house. I had already planned to replace them down the road a bit, but that has to be moved up due to broken gutter hangers. The dripedge caused this damage. Debris from the old roof got lodged in the downspout which caused water to enter the basement. This was a difficult fix in a rainstorm.
There seems to be a lack of communication and organization in the office employees. Project manager managed to do only the bare minimum, which did not include keeping me informed of what was happening.
The largest complaint, which may have some legal recourse, is the matter of money seemingly missing. The original loan amount was the exact amount of the originally agreed upon price. The company and I agreed to a lesser total price after the documents for the loan were signed. This resulted in an excess amount of money being paid to the company. This excess seems to have vanished. A difference of about 1,100 dollars. Where did this amount go? Either repay it back to the loan servicer, or issue a check for the difference so I can return that money myself.

Entered by BBB staff LO Consumer states he had a roof put on last September. The work still has not been completed. They still need to replace the chimney cap.&#***;The consumer has contacted the business multiple times and they do not return his calls. The last person he spoke with was back in May and they told him he would be getting the chimney caps for free but the consumer advised them that it was included in what he already paid for. He was told that is not part of what they do and he should not have been told that. Consumer has in writing that if he gets an estimate from an **** company for the chimney caps they would reimburse him by check from the original amount paid once the **** company completes the job. Consumer did not agree to this. He was later told by someone named ************************* that they are waiting for approval from a supervisor to put the chimney caps on.

The contract to replace our roof with Erie Home was signed on March 13th, and the work was finished April 14th. Travelers Insurance Company is my homeowners policy holder. They are requesting a final invoice with a more detailed invoice than what Erie has sent to both Travelers and myself for reimbursement. (see attached PDF's).

I contacted the company's Customer Service department twice, both times reaching a **** ********* (last time was on May 20th), who informed me (twice), that Erie does not send a more detailed invoice, per company policy. She would not put me in contact with anyone else at the business to try and find recourse.

Travelers Insurance will not reimburse me without a more detailed invoice, and I feel like the company is stonewalling me. We put $15,000.00 down, and financed the rest. All I'm asking for is a more detailed invoice so I can be reimbursed from the insurance company.

I am rejecting this response because my homeowners insurance representative has been in contact with the company to get information for my roofing claim, and has yet to receive a response from your company. The final price was $34,541.00. If your company is are able to charge that much then they should be able to provide what they are spending it on. All encompassing pricing is not good business policy and reflects poorly on the companies integrity. My insurance agents contact information follows. I really want to get this resolved as soon as possible.

Erie Home replaced my roof in early March. The work included removing my exhisting leaf gutter toppers before the shingle replacement, and they would reinstall them. The gutter toppers were reinstalled incorrectly, A birds nest got into the gutters and clogged the down spout. During a heavy rainstorm, the bird drowned along with the nest, and now water flows over the gutter. The gutters must now be cleaned and the roof toppers must be properly replaced. I have asked and waited for this work ti be done for over three weeks, with nothing but excuses about getting a team out here. I have threatened court, but even that doesnt help. Their customer service number kerps referring me back to the same install manager ******, who gives nothing but excuses why they cant make it. He has given me a date that they would come. I took off frim work, and they never showed. He was apologetic but still has not rectified the situation. All I am asking is that they do the repair, after cleaning the gutters. On a side note, they broke my lawn lights and have promised to reimburse me for them. They have not, even after providing them with a receipt as the require. This company does not stand behind their customers, which is sad, as they actually did a great job on the roof, its the gutter toppers that is an easy fix, if I could only get them to correct.

They sold me the dream in November of 23 or so and started the job in January and let me tell you. The dream is not real. They try to cut so many corners. Did not do things they said they would. They said they would scrap my walls and seal before adding the encapsulation to the walls. I was at work while they worked in my home. Came home to the job almost complete the first day .. they didn’t finish fastening down the encapsulation. So I looked behind it. Well guess what! They didn’t do anything besides put the encapsulation over the wall. Didn’t scrape the walls. Didn’t seal them didn’t do anything! Just tried to cut corners. I ******** and they took it down and did what They said they would do supposedly. They didn’t seal all the cracks in the floor like they said they would. The cement filler they put in the floor has cracked in numerous spots all around the house. They said in the contract they would hire someone to remove the hot water heater so they could do the floor there also. They didn’t. My furnace had a condinsation tube that ran from it to the wall to a drain. While they drilled the floors they cracked it and it was leaking all over the floor. Someone came out to fix it. Cut it added a plastic hose that was through the middle of my floor not like it was up against the wall and melted it together with a cigarette lighter and some bonding glue. Still leaked everywhere. Had to hire a plummer to fix correctly which costed me another 400 some dollars ( they Erie home did refund me that money)

An 2 months later my floor and walls are leaking all along the hot water heater .. ( I called complained someone was supposed to come today between 3-4 guess what nobody showed up)
My point is here people is it’s a **** show. Do not hire these people. They will sell you a dream take your 24,400 dollars and just cut corners and smack some **** down to make it look like the fixed something. I do not and will not recommend them to a single soul. And I paid in full.

I am rejecting this response because: Erie home did contact me via txt on 6/7/24 at 8:30 pm about coming to view my home( which they had already sent two workers over on 6/3/24) Those workers explained to me that the job was not done correct .. the cement cracking and not filled properly. The floor not sealed with the correct product. Along with agreeing the hot water heater should have been removed. As the wall protection pad ( whatever it’s called isn’t even sealed in the spot letting water out behind it. They also stated they wanted to rip half the floor back up to make sure it’s done properly. And angle my grass away from the house so water slopes away from the home. After 6/3/24 I never heard from them again. Until some txt 6/7. He said he was going to call me today 6/10 and it’s 5pm and still nothing. It this point I just want to be done with this. The job fixed properly and a good junk if not all my money back. For this headache.

      Sincerely,

The roof is wavy, not flat, on the back side. The Modelo bottles left in the yard by the roofing crew were run over by my husband and broken, thereby flattening 2 of our tires on our riding lawnmower, both on the left side. The trash, although small, is evident all over the yard. The interest rate on the financing was increased twice before the first payment was even made. Our calls and texts have been largely ignored. We've set appointments twice, waiting at home for a company representative to come out and look at our complaints. Both times the representative did not show up or even call to cancel and reschedule. For a company that supposedly has a AAA rating (according to the salesman) we find this absolutely unacceptable. We expected much more.

Erie Home apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. Erie Home came out to the home and removed a portion of the roof and redecked and reshingled the area. Erie also cleaned up the debris and replaced the lawn mower tire.

Met with *** from Erie Home and Roofing Solutions on 4/24/24 regarding roofing for our home. Signed the contract and then talked with **** ****. May 7, 2024 I contacted Norman regarding installation. Told that he would call me that evening. On May 8, I contacted the main office and explained the problem via email. Workers showed up unannounced on May 11 at 7:45 AM. I questioned the workers regarding no materials but could get no explanation only " no English" by the head worker and I don't speak Spanish. They left. Received call from Norman at 8:30 informing me that the workers would start and they were bringing the materials. Workers showed up again at 8:45. Norman arrived a few hours later. I talked with him and told him that the workers had driven across my septic leach field and they could not do that again. He told me that he would explain that to them. (However, when they left they once again drove over my leach field with their heavily load trailer.) He immediately informed the workers that materials would not be there until Monday, 5-13-24. Workers left at approximately 1:00 pm only after installing the "roofing paper." Did not clean up the job site. I found over 2 dozen roofing nails in my driveway and on my front and back porches. 5-13-24, I received an email informing me that would not be able to finish the work until maybe Friday, 5-17-24." No one showed up on that day. On Wednesday, received a call from ****. I explained the issues, including the removal of both bathroom exhaust vents and the r**** hood vent and the nails and other trash left when the workers left the last time. He told me the vents would be installed when the roof was installed. Materials arrived 5-17-24. Workers showed up unannounced today, 5-18-24 to complete the work. Did not reinstall exhaust vents. Once again no one spoke English so I could not ask about the exhaust vents. It appears Erie homes just cares about making money, nothing else.

Erie came to my home after I requested a quote, and the typical salesman were very pushy and claimed I couldn’t get a discount unless I agreed to sign that day. Yes that’s a regret but it’s my own doing. Beyond that, they said they would install the roof quickly (which they did), that they’d clean up all debris and otherwise leave the property how they found it. We picked up nails for weeks, and even had two tires patched due to the nails. Further, they destroyed part of our railing on the front of the house, which was immediately documented Dec. 12, 2023 (the same date of the install) and Jose came out to review the work and confirm the damage. Bill, the off-site manager, had the response of “well it looks like the wood was pretty rotten,” which is irrelevant since it was in one piece and now it is not due to their negligence. Since Dec. 12, I have been in regular contact with Bill who continues to put off the scheduling for various reasons. It has been more than five months at this point. I have texted him asking for updates Feb. 8, March 7, April 4, April 23, and most recently May 9. A very important point in their sales pitch was their BBB rating, and I felt this was clearly the only route to get this taken care of.
