Erie Sales men came to my house and after 5 hrs they basically pressured me into signing a contract. The next day I called with questions, no response. By the end of the following day I attempted to cancel my order and requested my down payment check returned. The person at answered was not helpful and said someone would have to call me back; never did. The next morning I called the office and the woman who answered, while nice was still unhelpful. I think this is a stall tactic to get me passed the 3 day window that I can legally cancel the contract. Well I’m not going to allow that. I canceled my check, but I still want them to return it to me, and email me a confirmation of the cancellation prior to the 3 day limit.Business Response

I had Erie Home come out on 04/29/2023 to get an estimate on replacing my roof. I decided to go with them and put down a ***** down payment. They told me they would get back to me regarding my loan but I never heard back. I tried calling multiple times and every time was put on hold then sent to voicemail. I left them multiple messages and never heard back. When I went to their "office" there is nothing there but an empty field. I did talk to someone at thier corporate office and was told the money would be credited to my account but nothing so far.Business Response

On April 17 2023 I had my insurance adjuster check my garage roof after the 80 mile an hour windstorm, as a courtesy he also checked the roof of my home. He found fifteen shingles with dents, he told me that they were caused by hail or a factory defect. On April 19 2023 a rep from Erie roofing came out and told my wife that it would take baseball size hail to damage the roof. My demanded he climb onto the roof and check it out. He came back down and told my wife the shingles were missing powder and left. That tells me it was either hail damage or a factory defect and that Erie Roofing does not stand behind the product they sell or install.Business Response

Erie Home apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. Erie Came out to the home and inspected the roof and advised that the "puncture marks" are from storm damage. As stated in our warranty under "Events beyond our control", " We can't be responsible for any damage or material failure caused by foliage, tree limbs, normal weathering, corrosive effects of salt air and chemical pollutants, high-pressure power washing, normal fading, deterioration of caulking compounds, fire, flood, lightning, high winds (in excess of warranted speed herein), windblown objects, earthquakes, hurricanes, ice dams, icicles and/or ice storms, atmospheric conditions or weather of catastrophic nature, other acts of God, intentional acts, or unreasonable use nor can we warrant that the roof will not experience excessive granule loss or any other cause not a result of a manufacturing defect." Unfortunately, this damage done to the shingles is due to the tornados that were in the area and will need to go through the customers homeowners insurance.Initial Complaint

I contacted this company to look at our roof. They came to our house and spent 6 hours pitching their product. We eventually agreed and filled out the paperwork, but never received a copy of anything. We also put down a $1,000 deposit. We received a letter from a bank, stating our loan application was denied, but received nothing from the company, who had scheduled the roof work for mid April. I immediately began attempting to contact all of the numbers he had for the company, but no one responded. My wife eventually found a number and spoke with a representative. After explaining the situation, she said the company works with multiple banks, and we were approved by one of them. However, we never received any confirmation of that so we requested our deposit back. She stated we would receive our deposit back and an email regarding the deposit. She also stated that our contract was 'pending' because the supplies hadn't come in yet. She would not send me anything in writing. It is 5/2/23 and we haven't received an email or our deposit. A man contacted me the same day my wife spoke with the woman in the business office, saying he was the contractor and was going to charge us a restocking fee because the supplies for the roof came in and were made specifically for our roof. Just an hour earlier we were told the supplies hadn't been delivered. The contractor was told that our loan had been denied so there was no way we could afford to do the roof, but he stated we had to contact them within 3 days of the contract being signed in order to cancel the contract. This was not possible because we received the denial from the bank weeks after signing the contract.Business Response

I paid a company $40,000 for a roof and they did not finish the work and left debris in my yard which injured my pets and damaged my vehicle. I have called them weekly for over 12 months with promises they will finish work and compensate me but they keep putting me on hold and giving me the run around.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:I have given them a list. I gave them a list over a year ago and as you will see per the text that I have attached I had a contract with them and they keep putting me off. They have had several different foreman and they all have promised to make it right but they have done nothing.
I did talk to **** three weeks ago, he said they have lots of complaints to respond to and I’m just one of them but they were trying to figure things out. He would try to get a crew out and he was supposed to get back to me and he has not. I have left him several voice messages and he has not responded.

Two salespeople came to my house on April 4th to sell me a roof. It was a very expensive roof and within 24 hours I said I didn't want the roof and was going to shop around. I gave them $5,000 and called immediately and required a refund. I am still waiting and I have called twice now and keep getting the run around. Back in December 2019 I went under contract for a roof. I payed $14620.00 I have call with complaints seven times in the last two years. Every time they come out. They tell me what the problem was and that they corrected it and I shouldn’t have any more problems well this year I called again because there was a lot of damage there’s been a lot twice and the insurance has paid out twice for the same problem. I was dropped from my insurance because of multiple claims for the same thing I went with another company , then it happened again. I chose to pay for it myself out of pocket because I was too scared to complain to the insurance company and risk being dropped again.and I told Erie Roof this ,they came out and took pictures and they told me they would fix it again and I told them this is their last chance because this will be the eighth time they came out fixed it . Well again it’s still leaking .and this is now I had problems when they first showed up because they showed up with several guys in a van. They did not speak English and the problems I had was because I got it in February. I think they install this fence so when spring time came. I opened up my skylight so I tried to open up my skylights and they were weld shit, so I called Erie and told him they sent a guy out to correct that , there’s just been multi problems with this roof for the price I paid I’m still having problems , now paying out of pocket for damages caused by a leaky roof that is four years old? I have lost all confidence in this roof I want my money back or new roof .Eight times is to much. Unskilled worker is being used. I file a complaint on your website already, This is a bad company and I see that they have been a big problem in my community . They have had multiple complaints and their response is always the same . Why do we have to pay money for a product that they guaranteed. I’m having problems still ,inconvenience eight times is enough. Thank you. .Business Response

My name is ******** *******, daughter of ***** and ***** *****, ages 78 & 79, completing this form on behalf of my parents. ***** reached out via a website to get an ESTIMATE to see if their roof needed to be replaced through Erie Home. The website advertised FREE ESTIMATES, MILITARY & SENIOR DISCOUNTS, which ***** is a Veteran and both are senior citizens. ******* ******, Salesperson for Erie Home, reached out immediately, then set an appointment to come into my parent’s home with Contractor ******* ***** to access the roof. Once the roof was accessed, ******* ******, told my parents a completely new roof was needed and wrote them a QUOTE, not an ESTIMATE. The quote was given on a 30-day price of $32,845, Mr. ****** told my parents if they did not agree to get the roof that day, then they were not to contact them or show their face again. This is intimidation and high-pressure sales and scared my parents to the point they may not get a badly needed new roof, according to Mr. ******. On 12-1-2022 a contract was drawn up and signed by my parents with the Purchase Price of$28,212. A down payment of $3,000 makes the price $25,212.00 to be financed, as my parents are on a fixed income and disability. ***** ***** asked to get in touch with her local bank, but ******* ****** immediately said he would handle everything and sent the loan through Sunlight Financial, whom my mother has never banked with, at an APR of 11.989%, extremely higher than her local bank rate. Finance Charge $30,240.60, Amount Financed $25,212. Total of Payments $55,452.60 for 180 months. According to the ORC Section 1345.03, Unconscionable Consumer Sales Acts or Practices, Title 13, Commercial Transactions, Chapter 1345 Consumer Sales Practices, No supplier shall commit an unconscionable act or practice in connection with a consumer transaction. Such an unconscionable act or practice by a supplier violates this section, whether it occurs before, during, or after the transaction.Business Response

Erie has reached out to *** (the daughter that filed the complaint) and have offered two different options for the inconvenience. In the conversation which got me to hire them was they would remove old roof off house brace and fix the flaw that caused sways in roof by means of braces or whatever was needed to level roof they instead left the panels they replaced before roofing raised up an inch to compensate then put the new shingles on and there was sill sways in my roof I’d never agreed to pay as much if all they was supposed to do was replace shingles they only did half the job and the aggrement was that our property wouldn’t be used as collateral in the loan they told me that my credit was good enough that it wouldn’t be I tried to tell the employees while they was doing job that they couldn’t do that but none spoke English and kelp working then I find out that no more than what they done I could have gotten any roofing company to do same thing for half the price the whole reason I agreed to pay them the amount was to have it repaired right the job shouldn’t have been done in under 8 hours this was a much bigger job the agreement was wrote up on 2/6/23 but of course they didn’t put the entire job in the contractBusiness Response

Erie Home apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. Erie Home has already addressed all issues with customer earlier this month. As stated in page 7 of the contract "Buyer(s) acknowledges that Contractor`s products do not correct or cure structural problems." Customer has foundation issues as well as an addition that was not attached properly causing dips in the roof. Erie Home did confirm this again with the customer in the initial conformation call. Erie Home did reduce the price of the contract to help fix these issues and any miscommunication.Initial Complaint

I am writing to lodge a complaint against Erie Construction Mid-West regarding a transaction that occurred in ****** ********, ** ***** between February 20,2023 to April 14, 2023. I paid $64,868 for a metal roof but have not received the promised forever roof. The salesperson stated that rubber roofing material would be used on the dormers instead of metal. The metal roof material was not the same thickness as what was shown to us during the initial interview. The roofers are contract workers and not direct employees of Erie. They placed a metal roll-off dumpster on our driveway without our knowledge, which caused damage. They damaged the siding and created a leak in the back of our house. During the installation of the attic fan, they cut the old wires off and did not tape the exposed bare wires. The dormers were covered with thin paper that did not stick to the plywood, and the installation of the metal roof over the dormers was not seamless, allowing water to run under the metal roof. The roofed over a bathroom vent. The supervisor arrived and stated that Erie would not be responsible for water in my basement due to their installation of the roof and dormer problems. The foreman used a different color sand to cover the sealant. They also reused sheets of metal that already had holes in it from previous screws. Erie was not helpful in providing solutions to fix the water runoff caused by the metal roof, and they did not take responsibility for the damage caused by the dumpster. Erie Metal Roof's dormer rework was poor, reusing metal sheets with holes and not using screws with washers. Gutter and sheet metal companies refuse to divert water around all four dormers due to Erie's subpar work. I had to fix their mistakes, prevent an electric fire, and cover exposed plywood. I seek a billing adjustment and repairs for the siding, driveway, and water runoff. Erie didn't deliver on their promise of a forever roof and caused more problems.
