I contacted ****** the owner about seeding my lawn and putting straw on it for growing purpose. ****** came out to get the square footage of my lawn. He sent me a quote of 6700. I contacted ****** and told him that was way out of my price range. I went and installed the grass seed on the lawn and rented a straw thrower. When I first started the straw thrower it made some noise and locked up. I took it back hoping I could get another one. They didn't have anymore. I then called ****** again and asked him I He could give me a price to throw straw on my lawn he stated it would be between 300 to 500 to do the job. I told him to go ahead and do it. They finally came out to do the job and his Forman told me I would need more straw so I went down the street and picked up more. Now they got to my house at 130 and was done by 430. There was 5 bals left and told the Forman that he would like them to go ahead. That night I received a bill that I was told 3 to 500 was now 1413. When I contacted him he told me that they charge by the balance of straw. That was the first time I heard that from him. I stated to *** that he quoted me 3 to 500 and he said again he charges per bail of straw. If I would have known that I would have not have him do it and waited for the company to fix the straw thrower. He played me and tripled the bill and then told me that's the way it is. I am disable and he knew that so I have a strick budget and he knew this but played me with one price and then hit me hard with a different price. He charged me for 18 hours and they was only here for3 hours why. Thank you. I hope you can help.

    Hi ********,

    Thank
you for reaching out on this issue. It has been a frustrating situation to say
the least. We sent the below response to ********* ******-****** at
the Ohio Attorney General’s office after Mr. ***** sent them a complaint as
well. Please review and let us know if there is any additional information we
    can provide.

    Mr.
***** reached out to us to request that we come to his property and spread 30
bales of straw that he would provide. We agreed that the job would be billed as
time & material and as a courtesy to Mr. ***** we gave him a rough idea of
what we thought it would cost for the work he described.

    Upon
arrival at the property, our three employees noted that Mr. ***** actually had
45 bales of straw that he wanted them to spread as opposed to the 30 he had
originally spoken to me about. They called me and I told them since it was a
time and material job, and Mr. ***** was there to approve the work that they
could go ahead and spread that straw. My employees contacted me again a little
later to let me know that together with Mr. *****, they determined that another
50 bales would be needed to complete the project. Mr. ***** went himself and
got 50 bales of additional straw for my employees to spread.  Again, since
this was a time and material job and Mr. ***** was with them and approving this
additional work (even going as far as to go get the straw for them) I told them
they could go ahead and complete the project.

    Due to
the additional approximately 60 bales of straw that my employees spread at Mr.
*****'s property; the cost obviously increased. Based on the original scope of
work that Mr. ***** outlined and we both agreed to; which was spreading 30
bales of straw, it should have taken my employees 6 hours to complete. Since
the bales that needed spread tripled, so did the billable hours. It took my
employees 18 hours total to complete this work; they were at the property from
12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. I have attached a copy of our job sheet for your reference.
We did not and do not “bill per bail of straw” but simply by the amount of
hours it takes to spread those bails.

    Finally,
Mr. ***** seems to have some confusion on who he spoke to as he notes multiple
times in his complaint that he spoke to ****** (who is the co-owner to CTS),
however, he did not speak to ****** at all and the entire exchange has been
communicated with **** (myself, co-owner of CTS).

    We are
fair and honest people that do our best to provide our customers with the very
best service and we are proud of the service we provide to our community. As
any other small business, we are simply asking to be paid for the work that we
completed and to protect the reputation we have worked so hard at building.

    Thank
you for your time and commitment to helping rectify consumer/business issues
    such as this.

    Owner,

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

Yes I contacted mister ***** about doing a job for me. The 1st job was for him to come out and Till my lawn put grass seed on my lawn and fertilizer. On my lawn to throw straw on my lawn and to cover the straw with something so the wind wind blew it away. he gave me a price of  6700 dollars. I could not afford that and I told him i'm limited on Funds I am a disabled vet. I then went to do it myself. I went and pickup a tiller to till the lawn. Then a grass seed spreader an a fertilizer  spreader. Then I went to kfg again and picked up a straw thrower.  I had 30 bales of straw that I had picked up from a gentleman down the street. I then got back to the house and started doing a job myself. I put a few Bales in the machine and it stopped something happened to the machine. I took the machine back to k f g hoping to pick up another one and they didn't have another one. I then contacted mister ***** to see If he could please disperse the straw out on my lawn. I told him that I had 30 balls here and I could get more if I needed it. I told him I went to KFG and picked up a straw thrower and it locked up after 2 balls.  I feel Mr. ***** at that time should've told me knowing the size of my lawn. That 30 Bails would not do the job instead. He just said he could do the job. Mister ***** gave me a price of 300 to 500 hundred To do the job I told him to go ahead and do it again. Mr. ***** never explained to me that it was gonna  costed me per ball. He stated is the 300 to 500.  When his employees came out here at that time A. Few Days later, they came to my house and told me That 30s  would not do the job. Now when i was talking to mr ***** why didnt he tell me that i didnt have enough bails? Because again he never explained it to methat he charges perr bail. The gentleman told me that came out here to throw the straw that I needed 50 more bails. I told him why he was throwing the 28 balls out there I would go ahead and go get the other fifty. When the 3 gentlemen showed up here to do the job they did not show up at 12 it was 130 in witch i explained to Mr. ***** they left here at Five thirty. But it doesn't make a difference to me when they showed up because he gave me an estimate of how much the job would be. As far as me having 45 Bails  I started with 30 Bells and I blew 2 Bells out on the K fg machine before It broke. And I explain that to mister *****. I feel that Mr. ***** knew. I could not afforward a big bill because they never try to upsell me anything to put across the straw to hold it down which I knew I. Couldn't afford. They never explained to me that the fifty bales was gonna cost me more money because they never explained how the job was done. I feel Mr. ***** knew that I couldn't afford more money and thats why he never contacted me about more money. I'm a disabled vet. And i had to save to do this job. Then when I got a  bill for almost three times as much of the maximum that he told me. I did send a check to Mr. ***** for 500. I felt the job that they done was worth more than 300 so I gave him the 500. That's what I saved for the job. I have never ever went back on somebody when they give me a bit on something. I've always paid my bills always and for him to say that I knew all this. I never would have done it. I would ha e refused it like the 1st time. I couldn't afford it from him so I tried to do it myself. If you have any questions please contact me thank you.

    Sincerely,

    **** *****
