Business did not do what they said they would do and then sent me a huge bill from 2007 when I was a minor and had state issued insurance due to my parents being **********. Had a visit with them summer of 2024 because I was having ********. I was a previous patient of theirs from when I was a teenager about ***** years old which is about 17 years ago. The only reason I went back to him is because he told me when I was a teenager that my jaw would rot without the necessary surgery but I decided not to get the surgery because I did not want to have facial surgery that young. Since I am now 34 years old and having jaw/face pain, I figured it was time for that surgery. I went back to the same doctor (not knowing there was some supposed unpaid debt because I was a minor last time I was there) and he said I was perfectly fine. He claimed he could make me a stint and that would be it. Still no mention of a debt from anyone in the office. I left and waited for him to call and say we could start on the stint but instead, a week later started receiving bills from 2007 when I was a minor. Now I keep receiving bills and phone calls from this place for bills that my parents should have been responsible for if the insurance I had at the time didnt cover it. They are harassing me and I want to be left alone!! They have many more reviews on their ****** page of people complaining about their insurance practices and being unfairly charged. The statue of limitations for business to bill a patient are 3-5 years. They are trying to bill me for services from 17 years ago.

    While we
would never discuss specific patient details, the patient is not being billed
for a prior balance from 2007, during which time she was a minor and had
Medicaid coverage in Oklahoma. The practice subsequently wrote off any
remaining balance not covered by insurance in that year. Prior to her 2024
visit, there were no outstanding balances.

    The
patient was scheduled multiple times for a consultation, and according to office policy, after two
reschedules or no-shows, we typically do not offer further appointments.
However, we granted her another opportunity. She attempted to reschedule her most
recent consultation again, but after being informed of the policy, she agreed
to uphold the appointment. Unfortunately, the patient provided insufficient
insurance information, which led to the non-payment for the consultation and
panorex performed that day of service. Her insurance subsequently denied
coverage due to inactivity, resulting in a patient responsibility of $495 ($325
for the consultation and $170 for the panorex).

    Our
    billing staff has made several attempts to contact her to clarify her bill;
however, she has not responded. At no point from 2007 to the present did
Dr. ****** inform her that her "jaw would rot" without treatment.
Instead, she was presented with the option for non-surgical treatment and
was advised before she left the office, that we would investigate insurance
coverage for any potential treatment. The insurance subsequently denied the
estimate, indicating that she would be responsible for $1,405.00 if she chose
    to proceed.

Clinical staff has made efforts to reach the patient to
inform her that insurance would not cover treatment discussed, but they have
    been unable to make contact.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: That statement isn’t true. I did not give incorrect insurance information. I have been employed with the same company for many years and have had the same insurance. My company did go through a recent change (merging with another business) but as far as I know, it did not affect our insurance. I also recently had regular checkup with my dentist after seeing Dr. ****** and they had no issues with my insurance. I also haven’t received any phone calls or voice messages informing me that Dr Bowman’s office had any issue with my insurance. I’ve had the same phone number for 10 years. I wish I hadn’t discarded the itemized receipt I received show information from 2007. I see a lot of complaints on *** ******’s reviews on Google about their billing department. If I am incorrect and the bill is for my recent visit, I have no problem with paying. Please send me an itemized receipt and I’ll check with my insurance company. We’ll figure it out from there.

    Sincerely,

We have located the appropriate Delta Dental plan on the Delta National website and will proceed to file your claim today. A text message was sent to your registered cell phone number on September 25, 2024 regarding the balance on the account, the same day this complaint was submitted. Additionally, there is a toll-free number provided on the itemized statement you previously received. We will also arrange for a new statement to be sent to your home address today. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact that toll-free number.

Please be assured that all charges prior to 2024 have been settled, and you do not have any outstanding balance from those charges. The itemized statement you received includes all activity from previous years, which is why you may see charges dating back to 2007. At this time, you will not be responsible for any balance until your insurance has processed the claim. Once this is finalized, you will receive a new statement if there is a balance due stemming from the charges incurred in July 2024.
