Initially, great communication. Seemed like he would work hard, had quality standards, & wants to deliver a product we could enjoy years down the road. Unfortunately, that is not the case with this smooth talker & we will have rip out all he has done (unfinished btw...$70k down the drain). We should have not ignored the signs. Communication was like pulling teeth. The whole process (broke ground a year ago) was painful a
& stressful. From the get go, the pool dig was designed hastely....with a "hey the excavator is here, where do you want your pool." "Uhhh...right there works I guess". Looking back, there was very little care & thought into things. We ignorantly trusted the owner to guide us. Once they put in the walls, the pool looked too high. The owner assured us it was not so we ignored our gut and continued to pay installments per the contract. The owner was rarely out & would send a couple of his minions to work on our pool maybe 6 hrs a month. 5-6 months after breaking ground, we had concrete poured. We approved the forms & said, sure that looks good. Didn't realize that where the pool was dug & where the forms sat was an additional 2200 sq ft of concrete outside of our contract. The owner never mentioned it, never said hey...if your pool sits out here, we won't have enough concrete to tie it to the back patio. Or...hey, this amount of concrete w/the forms you approved will be an additional $20k. No he never mentioned anything or modified the contract (per the contract he isn't supposed to do any additional work outside the contract). We were not prepared for the additional cost...and I'm glad we didn't pay it. The concrete is failing. We have massive pooling on the concrete when it rains because the drain is too small. After doing some research on the concrete we realized the rebar was laid too far apart & was touching the ground. Considering the mistakes that have been made, not sure that anything was done right. At this point, it's all getting ripped out.
