*** had a very similar experience and complaint as Initial Review on the File a Complaint page:I have a subscription with the Corvallis Gazette Times that auto renews. I received a letter that said that the cost of my subscription is going up from $1 to $10.00/month and if I wish to cancel I must call ************. That is a number that leads to a robot answering system that leads you to options. When you select "cancel" it tells you that it can only do that during business hours which they say are until 5:00 pm. It was 4:20 pm when I called. I then went to their website and dialed the number there. That number led me to the same robot answering system. I then logged into my account and saw that there was a place to cancel your subscription. When I clicked that link, it said I needed to call customer service and it sent me back to the same useless robot answering system. This sounds exactly like the subscription scams that have been reported on recently in the national media.I called them seven times over three days time. Today is the first day I FINALLY got through to a real human. Cancelling the subscription took EIGHT minutes as the customer service rep kept ignoring my request to cancel and offered me lower and lower subscription rates and asking come on questions. I kept saying I dont want any promotions - I want to permanently cancel my subscription. Finally he relented and said he cancelled my subscription. If they deal with me as they dealt with ******** below (when they told him they cancelled it but he keeps getting billed - even after three phone calls when they said they cancelled it), I will file a dispute with my credit card company and refuse to pay until it is actually cancelled. I detest businesses that do this and I will continue to take action until it is resolved. Its very disappointing that *** Media bought out the *** It used to be a wonderful local paper. Now it isnt worth reading & the customer service stinks.

They are using a deceptive website and mailings and might be charging me twice -- once through Corvallis and once through Albany. Price went to *****/**. for a few months, then I got a notice it was going to ***** -- which is way too much. I tried to Cancel immediately through their website and had to jump through hoops--n when I finally got to a Cancel button, it told me to go to ******************* For which there is no link on the Subscriber page or Homepage. I called the phone number they gave and was told to push "1" for Subscriptions, which produces a recording saying "out of service." Then I tried "7" for directory, which has no link.I waited for business hours today and was given a recorded message saying they couldn't Cancel my account and I needed to call back during "business hours!!!" This is total b.s.
