I subscribed to this publication online in January, 2025, opened an account, and authorized $10.00 automatic payment from my credit card. When I tried to read the publication online, I was unable to open my account. After several days of trying, I sent an email to the publication requesting to cancel my subscription. There was no response. I then called them, using the number listed with you, and received an automated message that the number was no longer in service. The problem is that they have charged my credit card each month. I consider all of this to be fraudulent activity, and I would like them to stop charging my credit card for a service I canceled in January.

We are working directly with this consumer to resolve her technical issues on our website. We have let her know we will refund her subscription. We are also offering her a free no-obligation three-month subscription with the hope that she will appreciate the value of our news outlet. The consumer said our phone number is disconnected but we have had the same number since 2012. Please feel free to contact us with any remaining questions or concerns.

I am rejecting this response because: the Corvallis Advocate has not indicated that it has cancelled my subscription and will stop charging my credit card.  The Corvallis Advocate said in its email of 5/20/2025 that it is mailing me a reimbursement but I have not yet received it.  It has promised me a free 3-month subscription, which I am not interested in.  It has not explained why it failed to respond to my email requesting cancellation, and why it continued charging my credit card in March, April, and May.  In summary, the Corvallis Advocate has not promised to cancel my subscription and stop charging my credit card, which was my original complaint.

      Sincerely,

In our experience, consumers generally see our website as easy to use, however, this consumer says it has not been, and that she would like a refund for her subscription, which we have sent. Adding to the refund,we also offered a free, no obligation, three-month subscription and are willing to offer her whatever technical help she may need. We have also offered that if any additional charge from us appears on her credit card statement, like during our processing of her request for instance, that we would refund that too. The consumer said our phone number is disconnected but we have had the same number since 2012, and it is in working order.

I am rejecting this response because: The Corvallis Advocate still has not agreed to cancel my subscription and stop charging my credit card.  That is the essence of my original complaint.  The Corvallis Advocate has discussed many other things, and in some instances their response to the BBB is different from their communications to me.  As a consumer, I believe I have the right to ask that the Corvallis Advocate cancel my subscription and stop charging my credit card.  I am simply asserting that right.  Can this be so hard to understand?

      Sincerely,
