    I am a property owner in Warrenton, ******. A tenant left me with two huge water bills that were in her name, and they were attached to the property as a lien, rather than the tenant. The total bill that I was forced to pay was $699.64. The tenant claimed bankruptcy in January of 2024 on their first water account #********** with a balance of $359.17. The city opened a new account for her in which she did not pay a remaining total of $340.47. The City of Warrenton refused to waive these bills. I was forced to pay the bill, or the City would not turn the water back on and I would be unable to rent out the property. This is an unfair and unethical business practice! Water sewer bills should be the responsibility of the person renting the property, especially if the account is transferred into their name, as this one was.
