5/28/24 and 6/7/24: repair outboard engine of problems of missing at low rpm the first time. When I got it back and ran it, then it wouldn't idle at all and had no power which was $832.50. I took it back and they charged me $632.90 for other repairs and it still runs the same way.

    Customer Answer

The business owner contacted me by phone and told me not to bring the boat back to him because he was contacted by bbb and he's done with it.

    Business Response

    Date: 07/17/2024

5/28 - Customer droppped boat stating that it had a engine misfire when under load and had a poor idle. Ran ok at a wide open throttle.

Findings: Motor is computerized & fuel injected.  it was visually inspected and ran. Noticed the wiring in the engine was tampered with and it had audible running issues.  Connected computer diagnostics and found multiple error codes. These error codes were all addressed along with the several general maintenance parts replaced due to no history of the motor having any servicing.  Ran the engine in the large test tank after the repairs were performed to check idle characteristics, hard acceleration etc. The motor worked properly under the testing conditions.  Again connected the computer diagnostics software to ensure that no error codes appeared.  Have the report to support this from software.

6/5 - Customer picked up boat.

6/7 - Customer returned with the boat stating the boat did not work any differently.

Findings: We ran the motor in the large test tank again, all performance functions were normal as we found prior to him picking up. We checked into multiple components with no-issues found.  Removed spark plugs to inspect, 3 of the 6 spark plugs were visibly different in their burning conditions. We then performed a compression test and determined that those 3 cylinders had lower compression than the other 3. This is due to internal wear which was noted to the customer verbally and on his work order. This is not catastrophic but is a hinderance that the motor has internal excessive wear.  This issue will in an undetermined amount of time, require a motor rebuild.

We replaced the spark plugs, checked into multiple other components and told the customer that we could lake test to confirm his findings. He authorized the lake test. The boat idled properly; top speed was approximately 60 miles per hour. Start up and idle performed properly. It was ran on the lake for approximately 45 minutes to an hour with no issues.

6-20 - Customer picked up boat.

7/12- Customer called and said the boat was doing the same thing he initially brought it for.  At this time, it was 22 days after picking up the boat.  We told him to bring it back in on Monday and we would put back on to the computer and look for errors. I told him that I was shocked as it worked as it should on 6/19/24 when it was lake tested. He agreed to bring in on 7/15/24.  After speaking to ******, I received a very hostile, threatening call from his grandfather. I thoroughly discussed with him the work that we did and the testing that was performed at the lake with no issues.  I explained that I told ****** to bring in on Monday to place it back on the computer to see if any new error codes have appeared. I also explained the compression issues that we pointed out to ******.  He seemed to understand and was aware that we would look at it on Monday.  He then turned me into BBB an hour later without us looking into this further.
