In December of 2019 I received a $100 gift card for The Bookstore Speakeasy. I was not able to use the card because of the COVID pandemic. The card has no expiration date printed on it and it indicates that The Bookstore Speakeasy received the funds for the purchase of the card. When I finally felt comfortable using the card in October 2022, I phoned the restaurant to verify the balance before making a reservation. I was told by the person who took my call (after he consulted with the manager) that I would have to email a photo of the front and back of the card to verify the balance. I did so immediately, but did not receive a response. I followed up using the manager's email address and was told that my email was misplaced in a folder and that she would contact the company that issued the gift card to verify the funds and get back to me. I was informed that it could take as long as a week. When I did not hear back after more than a week, I followed up with multiple email messages and then finally a phone message. When the manager did not respond to my multiple attempts to follow up, I contacted the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office to seek mediation of my complaint/request. I recently received a letter from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office stating that The Bookstore Speakeasy did not respond to any of their attempts to contact them by phone or email and would not participate in the mediation process. I am requesting a refund of the $100, the purchase price of the original gift card, or a current gift card in the amount of $100 that The Bookstore Speakeasy will honor for goods and services.
