I recently had some rough shifting and noise in my truck and brought it to Washington Chevrolet for service. Two hours after checking in the vehicle, I was told that I needed the entire transmission replaced at a preliminary cost of $7000. I was told that the bottom of the pan was full of metal shavings, and that the pump was failing as verified by pressure test. I was advised that the vehicle would fail very soon and they recommended against driving for any length of time. I picked up the vehicle and talk to another dealership for a second opinion. As it turns out, Washington Chevrolet never dropped the pan on the transmission. The second dealership confirmed that there were no metal shavings and, tested the pump only to find that it was operating within specifications. In other words, there was nothing wrong with my transmission. I reported this to a Washington Chevrolet service manager. The service manager told me that he could not find anything wrong with their diagnosis or their process, even though it was proven to be incorrect at best and appeared to be at least partially fabricated. Furthermore, I was able to confirm with him that Washington ***** had not recorded any of the data from the pump test they claim to have performed and they did not drop the pan on the transmission during their diagnostic process. He also could not confirm that the vehicle had even been driven in an effort to confirm any issues with the transmission. This dealership was willing to charge me $7000 for a transmission that did not need to be replaced and the service manager is still unwilling to recognize a problem with how I was treated.

Our Service Manager took a phone call from ************************** questioning the diagnostics performed on his transmission. ************************** explained that we told him we dropped the oil pan on his transmission and said it was full of metal debris and that his transmission would fail. This was untrue, as we told him we checked the fluid and told him the fluid was clean, but there were traces of metal that could be seen in the oil. This was seen by removing the dipstick and inspecting the oil. The technician stated he did hook up a pressure gauge and took a pressure reading on the pump. The technician stated the reading at that time was showing the pump pressure to be low. The metal debris combined with the low pressure reading we recommended a transmission replacement because his transmission COULD fail and it was not recommended to drive the truck for long periods. ************************** stated he was upset and felt we should have offered to disassemble the transmission for a deeper diagnosis. Our service manager apologized to ************************** for us not offering to disassemble but also explained that he could have asked us to disassemble his transmission but he chose to take his truck to another garage and have them disassemble it further.
