On April 30, 2024, I shipped a package from the UPS Store #3137 at 4711 Forest Drive in Columbia, SC. I advised the representative, the store manager, that I needed it shipped to my daughter in Birmingham, AL for her birthday. When asked I told the manager that the package contained birthday cards and memorabilia as well as a $100 Mastercard gift card. I showed him the receipt of the card which I purchased from Publix. I was told the shipment came with a $100 insurance value provided by UPS. I paid for the service but after it arrived in Birmingham it never was delivered and still showed it was at a UPS processing center in Birmingham. I spoke to the manager again after a few days and was told if it wasn’t delivered in a week that he would file a lost claim for me. I went back in on May 7th and the manager, Christian, filed that claim and told me he would email me when he got the results. On May 13th I received an email stating that under UPS Terms gift cards were not reimbursable by UPS. I was never told this by the manager when I let him know there was a gift card enclosed. I could never get past the automated phone system at UPS to speak with a UPS representative. The store told me they could never speak to anyone either. I then left a message with the manager for the owner to contact me by email or phone. After several days I spoke with the manager again who advised me the owner had a family emergency and would be at the store on May 23rd. After no contact I visited the store that afternoon and was told the owner probably would contact me sometime next week. As I told him, had I been told that gift cards were not insurable, I would have taken it to FedEx where it is insured. The manager stated that he didn’t even know they were not covered by insurance. It is now nearly a month later and I’ve yet to be contacted by the owner either by phone, text or email. I have been a regular customer at this store for two or three years ands would expect that courtesy.
