I am making a complaint because this business added me to my sister’s policy without my consent and they dobled her payment from $290 to $730 because they added me as a driver even though i have my own car and i pay my own vehicle insurance in a different company. They told me to prove to them that i live with my brother instead of my sister’s house in order for them to remove me from her policy even though they added me without her approval. Meanwhile they are trying to make her pay doble what was paying previously. How can an insurance company feel like they can make decisions for a customer that impacts their budget in such a way. This has brought stress to my life and to my siter. I went to their office to show my proof of my car being insured at a different company and that was not enough for them they told me to change my address but thats where i get my mail. And a business should not be able to tell me what to do because they don’t want to admit they are doing wrong. They said that if they find out anyone lives at the household of the policy owner they just add then just in case they can drive. I had never heard of any other company with that kind of entitlement. It feels like they are just trying to squeeze money out of their customers. Thank you for your time.

      Business Response

      Date: 09/26/2024

Good afternoon.  My apologies, but today is the first time I received the complaint.  Here is a breakdown of what happened:

Our client is/was ***** ******** ******  She was insured with Progressive.  Progressive identified the person filing the complaint as an undisclosed driver in the household.  They sent a letter to the client but she did not respond.  They adjusted the rate up accordingly.  This was out of our agency control.  The client called in to discuss the rate increase and we reached out to Progressive to exclude the driver.  The person filing the complaint apparently used our clients address when she took out her own policy even though she doesn't live there.  Progressive asked us to have the client call in directly to resolve the issue, which she did and it was resolved.  However, the client then canceled the policy and left Progressive and our agency.  We represent Progressive but we do not handle adding undisclosed drivers.  That is automatically done by Progressive at renewal.  They notify the client directly via mail.  After we became aware, we took action to correct the premium increase.  Please call me at ************ if you have any questions.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.

[This does not resolve the problem because the company fails to admit that the fact that i used my sister’s address to recibe my mail does not give them the right to add me to her policy without her signature or approval. And they did not make an effort to adjust the policy but made a bigger effort to try and tell me to not use her address to get my mail and wanted to force me to provide documentation to satisfy them when i have never done any kind of business with this company. It is scary that they feel entitled to tell people who are not their customers what to do]

      Regards,
