    Details of the Complaint:
On October 9, 2024, I purchased two 5-gram gold bars from Cash America Pawn. The store has a 20% upcharge policy on gold, which I was led to believe would be applied to my purchase. However, after reviewing my receipt and comparing the spot price of gold on that date ($2,041 per ounce), I realized I was charged $1,200 for the two 5-gram bars—well above the expected price.
Despite gold prices now being at $3,000 per ounce, I would still not be able to resell the gold for anywhere near the $1,200 I paid. The prices I was charged remain excessive, and I would not even recover my investment at the current market rate for gold.
    Breakdown of Overcharge:
    Gold price per gram on 10/09/24 at $2,041/oz: $2,041 ÷ 31.1g ˜ $65.63 per gram
    Expected price with 20% markup: $65.63 × 1.20 ˜ $78.76 per gram
    Total expected cost for 10g: $78.76 × 10 = $787.60
What I was actually charged: $1,200
    Even at $3,000 per ounce:
    $3,000 ÷ 31.1g ˜ $96.45 per gram
    Expected price with 20% markup: $96.45 × 1.20 = $115.74 per gram
    Total expected cost for 10g: $115.74 × 10 = $1,157.40
This is still significantly less than the $1,200 I was charged.
    What I Am Requesting:
I am seeking one of the following resolutions:
A partial refund to reflect the correct 20% upcharge policy.
Store credit for the amount I was overcharged.
A formal response from Cash America Pawn explaining why they are not honoring their own pricing policy.
    Why This Matters:
This is a deceptive business practice that misleads customers into believing they are paying a reasonable markup when, in reality, they are being significantly overcharged. Additionally, their continued attempts to pressure me into purchasing more items after overcharging me are highly unethical. If this is a common practice at Cash America Pawn in Summerville, SC, it should be investigated and addressed immediately.
