TruGreen had been overcharging me for more that a year, and when I caught the mistake, I was told that I would get new pricing to correct for their MISTAKE. I have been our of the country for the past month, and when I got home 2 days ago, there was a bill from them in my mail, which I thought was odd, because the technician always leaves a report either ion the front door or beside it, and I did not receive said invoice. When I opened the bill, there was no reduction in cost as had been promised me. This morning, Friday, November 22, 2024, the TruGreen truck pulled up to my house. My driveway is 108 yards long, so I had not heard it, but my daughter was leaving the house and sent me a text that they were here. I brought my dogs inside as they are very protective of me, and will go after a stranger. He sat in his truck for the better part of 30 minutes, having not serviced my yard. The technician never put any fertilizer out, never went down my driveway to the back gate to service the yard. They have no correspondence address, only a receiving address for payment. If you call them it's just a bunch of dolts who know nothing. Every time you get a different person and the person you are looking for isn't available.Business Response

On behalf of TruGreen we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused the customer. Corporate care has tried contacting the customer via email and phone with no response. Corporate care has removed the charge and the customer's account balance is zero. An email has been sent to the customer letting him know that the charges have been removed and that his account is still active. If the customer would like to have his services cancelled, he would need to call us directly to cancel his services. If not, his services will resume in January 2005.Initial Complaint

On Monday (11/1`8/2024) I had Trugreen aerate and over seed my lawn. After the aeration and over seeding the technician's aerator left mud tracks on my driveway, front sidewalk and my back sidewalk. I contacted Trugreen that same day to have someone come out and clean up the mess. I was assured that someone would come out that same day to clean up. I was also assured that the lawn technician as well as his supervisor (*****) would contact me. Surprise neither of those things happened. My wife and I spent two hours the next day cleaning up the muddy mess.Business Response

Contract with TruGreen for lawn service. Treatments (Aug-Oct) results of these treatments were pest damage and spreading of weeds (Sedge, wild Bermuda grass, dollar weeds and clover) over *****************. Most prominent coverage in back yard over recently sodded and existing grass. After requesting supervisor site observation I was told there was nothing they could do for me and they would cancel the service and give me a refund. However, no restitution was offered for the damage their treatments caused.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: After filing this complaint and reading other reviews, it appears to be the generic response by this company for all dissatisfied customers. They annotate initial issues with the lawn and when their service treatment exacerbates the problem, they claim it wasn't their fault!! and a refund is sufficient. However, the damage is then left to the homeowner's expense. I would just like to have this complaint documented on the company's BBB rating. I Do Not wish any further contact from this business.

TruGreen specialists documented that in fact there were active lawn damaging insects as well as perennial grassy weeds in the lawn at the time of our first visit. It was also documented in subsequent service summaries that there were perennial grassy weeds in the lawn. The TruGreen general manager spoke with Mr. ********** 11/26/24 confirming the refund was issued, and the customer was seeking sod replacement. The TruGreen general manager explained to Mr. ********** that due to the uncontrollable nature of Bermuda grass and certain perennial grassy weeds, and the fact that they were already in the lawn when we were contracted to do his treatments, then we would not be resodding his lawn. As the customer has requested to not be contacted further by TruGreen, no further contact has been attempted.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: I acknowledge there were small spots of weeds in my lawn when I contracted with their sales representative. I even pointed them out to him, but after the first treatment they began to spread. I called their customer service and requested a supervisor to come and observe how their treatment was causing the weeds to overtake my good St. ******** grass. I called in September, October and November for a supervisor visit. In November when a supervisor did show up the damage was already done as approximately 90% of my St. Augustine grass was covered in the weeds. They said they had not contacted me since my previous response, but I received an unsolicited email from TruGreen yesterday on 12/3/2024 with the sales pitch of "committed to providing solutions to keep your entire yard healthy, vibrant and pest free". So much for this commitment when it comes to their backing this statement up and excuses thy provide

They offered a new customer deal and I figured I'd give them a try. They stated there was no contract. I would be contacted prior to any services and that I could approve or decline before any work was done. They explicitly stated that it would not be automatic monthly service. Well that was a lie. After being contacted for the first service they just started showing up without approval. They also stated that only the basic service would be done and any additional charged services would need to be approved by me beforehand. Again, a lie. They did additional services that I did not authorize. Not only did they create a huge mess, They then billed me for a far larger amount I did not authorize. I attempted to cancel several times but they will only do it by phone and they are very difficult to get a hold of. I finally canceled, they still made it very difficult by trying to offer me endless "deals" and not just canceling. I disputed the unauthorized charges and now they are trying to bill me again. They are dishonest crooks.Business Response

I cancelled TruGreen in early August. I was assured that my year subscription still had 2 free services. They agreed to cancel in August. They did the services remaining services promised to me but yesterday decided to do another service and charge my credit card when I did not ask for it. I need that money back and need to be left alone. Again, I cancelled this service in August. I never signed up for this AT ALL. This is illegal.Business Response

True green gave me false advertising to keep my yard beautiful and weed free. However after treatments 2 of trees are dead! They are $300 each tree. My other 6 trees in my backyard and 4 trees my front yard looks bad as well. I want FULL refund What I paid for the service and DAMAGES of my expensive trees! Tech also sprayed chemical to my fruit trees. I saw on my camera record. Now my fruit tree is also damaged.Business Response

TruGreen branch general manager ******* ********* agreed to compensate the customer in the amount of $300.00 as a courtesy for the tree the customer claims were damaged. Both ********************** gm and corporate have spoken with the customer and tried explaining that our specialist treated all the shrubs and trees on her property as well as several other customers that day with the same mixture of chemicals and has that product been defective all of her shrubs and trees as well as the other customers landscape would have been damaged. Hired Tru Green for routine lawncare. After several services, the entire lawn died (both front and back yard) and weeds took over the entire area treated. Manager came to my home and told me we had grass, and it was the neighbors lawn that had weeds. Very insulting. He advised we needed aeration and offered to do it for free. At this point, I no longer trust the services provided. Another technician was sent (female) and confirmed that my lawn was indeed full of weeds and was dead. I stopped her from completing the service. I went to another company who provided ******** for $600. Was told to constantly water lawn which has caused my water bill to increase significantly.Business Response

We had TruGreen service for many years. In August 2024, I noticed that the grass was starting to look like it was dying. I thought it might be chinch bugs. I called TruGreen for an appointment (my last appt. was on 7/29/24). TruGreen said that they would come out on Mon. 9/9/24. They never showed up, nor did they call/text. So, I started to call them again. I called several times that week and spoke with different people, including ***** (team lead in Mt. *******, ******** on 9/11/24). She was going to contact the local branch manager in *************. I never heard back from a manager. I called again on 9/12/24 and spoke with Mercedes, who said that she would escalate the matter. I received a few case numbers from TruGreen representatives who I spoke with, but again nothing happened. TruGreen then scheduled an appointment on Mon. 9/16/24 to have someone come out. They confirmed that I had chinch bugs. The lawn looks horrible! I even went to the TruGreen ************* office on Weds. 9/25/24 in an attempt to speak with a manager. I spoke with ******* who said that a manager wasn't in, but that she would give them my contact information. I never heard back from anyone. I cancelled my service on 10/1/24 with **** in **********, **. I had to hire a new company to come out and eradicate the chinch bugs. On 10/3/24 ********* ********* from the TruGreen retention center called me. I relayed all of the background information. Finally on 10/15/24, manager **** ******** came out to speak with me. He said that they would make it right (they have a sod man who they use, or he would write me out a check). However, he then spoke with his manager, **** ********* who would only approve $1,500. The cost to replace the damage to the lawn is several times this amount! TruGreen needs to take the necessary steps to make this right. (Please note: I have additional backup information that I was unable to fit on this form).Business Response

The customer removed chinch bug ********************** from the program on 12/20/23 stating that the home was going on the market and only wanted weed/feed lawn applications. The customer was not charged for a chinch bug application, as it was not included in the program. TruGreen manager spoke with Mrs. ****** twice on 11/18/24. During the initial conversation, Mrs. ****** was advised by the TruGreen manager that we are not able to guarantee against chinch bugs, the initial visit after her complaint was missed due to weather, and we returned the following week to treat for surface insects. During the second conversation, Mrs. ****** accepted the $1500.00 offer, and the information was sent to TruGreen's payables department for a check to be issued. TruGreen issued a check for $1500.00 on 11/21/24. Ms. ****** cashed the check on 11/29/24. TruGreen spoke with the customer on 12/2/24, and she asked for a call back on 12/5/24.Customer Answer
Date: 12/10/2024
This is in response to what TruGreen submitted to my initial complaint. TruGreen stated that the customer removed the chinch bug ********************** on 12/20/23. Just to be clear, I was unaware of the chinch bug control being removed, as I was not the person who TruGreen spoke with. They must have spoken to my brother because he resided at the residence at the time. However, in reviewing the TruGreen Service Summaries from 6/26/24, 7/29/24 and 9/16/24, the technician indicated that they had applied liquid fertilizer with iron and insect control to thicken the lawn, enhance its green color and help control turf damaging insects. So, it appears that TruGreen was treating for insects. However, the applications do not appear to have worked.
As mentioned in my initial complaint, I called TruGreen numerous times and went to their office in person trying to get assistance with my lawn. I accepted the offer of $1,500 because they said that it was all that they were willing to extend to me. I will have to pay several thousand dollars more to have the sod repaired. I was disappointed that TruGreen did not address the numerous times that I called them to try and get assistance, as well as having to go to their office in person in an attempt to talk with a manager. When you call the local ************* phone number you do not get an individual at that office, instead you are routed to someone elsewhere in ***************** or in the ********** I started calling TruGreen at the end of August and was given several case numbers, and told that my case would be escalated, but to no avail. I would hope that moving forward TruGreen would work toward establishing better customer service. A ********************** corporate representative did call me on 12/2/24, but I was at Best Buy and did not have my notes in front of me, so that is why I asked her to call me back on 12/5/24. When we did speak, I told her of my experience with TruGreen and listed several of the people who I spoke with, along with the dates and times in an attempt to get my concerns addressed. She said that she would provide coaching. I truly hope that this will be the case so that other TruGreen customers will not have the same experience that I had.

Tru Green in my area changed ownership at the beginning of this season, so I can understand there might be a little confusion, but they have refused deal honestly with me. They showed up and provided services that I did not request and had not received in years past. After calling customer service and spending an hour of my time, the issue was supposedly resolved and I prepaid for the entire season. A couple of months later I received another late notice of the original service that I did not request. I spent another hour on the phone and the issue was supposedly resolved for a second time. They told me to ignore any further bills because they had taken care of the issue. Well, I just opened a letter from a collection agency. The issue was not resolved even after I paid the entire season up front. I'm furious. I've asked them to never step foot on my property again. They showed up, provided services that were not requested and then turned that amount over to a collection agency after wasting a couple hours of my time in the process. I paid the balance they turned over to a collection agency to protect my credit score, but this is extortion. They should not be able to do business with the public with this type of behavior.Business Response
