We purchased this home late 2020 (moved in). About 6 months after we moved in the floor by the front door, the floor on both sides of the kitchen island, and by the dishwasher is literally falling in!!! The dishwasher wasn’t even attached to the cabinet, you could literally pull it out. The front door leaks water. I called the manufacturer and they said there’s nothing they can do about it since we’re not technically within warranty anymore but we’ve been trying to get this fixed 6 months after we moved in!!! The floor isn’t supposed to fall in when you just move into a 150k home.Business Response

Hi ******** thank you so much for taking the time to reach
out and share your concerns with us. We're sorry to hear of these frustrations,
as we want all our customers to have a positive homebuying experience. After
further review, it appears that your warranty had expired prior to contacting our facility
with a claim, and although the warranty has been expired for over a year, our
team is willing to have a technician inspect the floor and exterior door
issues. If it is determined that the factory is responsible they would address
the floor and exterior door concerns, however our factory cannot commit to
performing any repairs until an inspection has been performed as possible
causes such as the home settling, set-up or retailer damage, animal damage to the
bottom board beneath the floor, water standing beneath the home, etc. are
commonly determined to be the cause for issues such as these.Initial Complaint

We bought our home Feb 2022 and all was great when we moved in. Whenever we had an issue they would come and fix. However, when the 6 month mark came for our piers to be adjusted under our home, W5 the company that does this for them, adjusted incorrectly and our Marriage line that separates the home buckled leaving our floors like a roller coaster between our living room and our kitchen. They had a private person by the name of ***** come out and remove our flooring 2 times and the first time he tried fixing it was still very crooked and not flat at all, 2nd time he came he poured cement/putty in the marriage line and that still did not fix anything! Last we heard he either quit or they fired him. I called **** the manager and she tried multiple times for W5 to come out and fix/adjust the piers, she finally said to file a complaint through AZ Department of Housing because they are refusing to fix. We did this and they have been sitting on it for over 3 months. The person who we are dealing with cares nothing about our case (**** ******). This is extremely poor business customer service and I am appalled that this is the kind of care we are receiving. This is a large company that has the power to take care of this but instead they are trying to say that since they gave me money for flooring soon after we moved in our home, that it voids anything that they need to do. Mind you! This is for flooring! Not the bottom structure of our house that W5 ruined! This is causing me extreme stress and it is affecting my sleep and health. I truly wish this company cared about the people that live in their homes. Remember word of mouth travels.Business Response

**** ******, thank you for reaching out to Clayton! We are
sorry to hear about the issues that you are experiencing with your home. We
have reached out to Clayton in Glendale, as well as the facility that built
your home. At this time, Clayton has completed all warranty service and has
provided a settlement for the cost of the flooring; new flooring has been
installed by a contractor of your choosing, and that contractor holds liability
for the installation of the new flooring. At this time, we understand that you
have been in contact with the Arizona Department of Housing and will await the
results of that entity.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: this has nothing to do with the flooring. This has to do with the bottom of the home underneath where the piers were adjusted.

Bought a new home after trading a two year old mobile home to them for this new one. Comes with one of your factory warranty and made me buy a extended warranty. They told me if I didn’t buy an extended warranty that the lender wouldn’t do it which was not correct. Air coming in and light coming in around the top of the home where ceiling and wall meet. Sunken in spots in the floor. Doors not closing properly skirting around house is wavy and sliding back door glass window does not shut or lock properly. I’ve been given the runaround for almost a year and a half they have been out several times and have not corrected any of the issues. even though I have an extended warranty they have an fix anything from the factory warranty. Fiberglass shower has many cracks in it it has been filled and patched three times and has a deal cracking on top of the patches they put in. Rear part of the house will not stay heated or cooled. Cracks in ceiling have been patched several times do not match ceiling color and a reappearing. I feel as if there is a structural problem obviously air leak problems and numerous problems with this new house. I have made no attempt to make it right and fix the problem which would actually be a repaired home not a new home. I am at my wits end with this. And I live in a home that I can’t even lock my doors. I guess my safety doesn’t matter. And with air leaks and everything else I’m guessing that my health doesn’t matter to them either.Business Response

Mr. ****, thank you for providing your feedback. We are
sorry to hear about the issues that you are having with your home, and are
committed to assisting you with your warranty concerns. We have reached out to
the facility that built your home, and they have been in touch with you to
schedule a walk-through of the home to hear your concerns and formulate a
complete list of materials. Please also take into consideration that the
repairs may take multiple days to complete.
We also want to add that once these repairs are
completed, your home will still be under the extended warranty, but there is a
different process for years 2-5 of your extended warranty, as this warranty is
held through another company. Instead of reaching out to the home center where
your home was purchased, you would reach out to Home First at 1-800-804-9389.
If you have any questions about this process, we would be happy to assist you.Customer Answer

Factory came out and did what they were supposed to do it only took them a year and a half however the shower that is under warranty the company sent out people to look at the shower and the people said yes it needed to be replaced. It said that they were not responsible for installation. Clayton is not wanting to do that. However the manufacturer of the shower says it needs to be replaced. So here we are back again Clayton doing half of what they’re supposed to do and not honoring their warranty.Business Response

Mr. **** had warranty service on March 14-16. On March 15th, a representative from Praxis/American Bath Group was also at the home to determine if the fiberglass shower/tub needed to be repaired or replaced per the Praxis warranty. It was determined that the shower needed to be replaced and, although the Praxis warranty does not cover the cost of labor, the home building facility has reached out to Praxis to see if accommodations can be made for the cost of the labor. Following Mr. ****'s warranty repairs, he made Clayton aware that he was unhappy with repairs to the storm door, shingle, and siding. The home building facility is currently working on rescheduling these additional repairs.Initial Complaint

Purchased a new home from Clayton Homes of Huntsville Texas. As soon as the home was delivered they were done. I am having several problems the most important to me is the flooring. As soon as we were able to get into the home the flooring is not what we were showing on the lot. Once we were able to go into the home observed that the flooring was over cut on floor vents. The contractors that were to do a make ready had equipment that made several indentions and scrapes in the flooring. I immediately called Homes of Huntsville and was assured that they would address and get it fixed. Ended up contacting the manufacture of the home that is in Waco Texas where they build these homes. I have had 2 people from there come out and look at the workmanship of the flooring and was explained that this flooring had been discontinued due to it being not forgiving. Which means when things are set on it like furniture there is an indention. So I was told to get a quote for flooring since I did not want a aluminum transit bar put in. They did not have people that lay flooring without a transition bar. I got the first quote from Home Depot and was contacted back and said that they would like to settle for $1,500 would be all that they are willing to pay for new flooring. Or they would come in and lay new flooring with several transition bars. That is not acceptable since this is a new home not refurbed. I am also having electrical issues. They are saying that it has to do with the mother board and not to worry that they would have the contract explain to us that this is not an issue. Yes, indeed this is an issue. I have contacted the insurance company in the meantime till they get their contractor here. I am also getting an electrician out. I am also getting a flooring contractor to explain the issues with the floor. There are several other issues that they are not wanting to stand behind but my major concern is the flooring.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:I have a #******** I am just now receiving this letter from the BBB. Yes, Clayton is wanting to complete the regular repairs. They are not wanting to fix my flooring that they messed up on when installation occurred. As soon as I got the home I informed them of the over cut vents and indentions in the flooring. I have been advised that this is why they discontinued using this floor. I did have the facility guy come out and assess several areas. He is no longer with the company. I was told by him to get a quote on flooring from Lowes or Home Deport. I did and paid for that to be done. Before I could get a second quote I was told that they could settle for $1,500. This doesn't even cover the cost of materials. So they have admitted to the error. They also said that they could replace my flooring with vinyl and a transition bars. My home was not bought with transition bar and that is not acceptable. I have a NEW home not a REFURB home. I have explained several times that this is NO FAULT of mine and this is not what I paid for. It is a mistake the facility made in the craftsmanship and they should fix my flooring without a settlement of $1,500 or transition bars. If this is not resolved by the time I get back home I am looking to hire an attorney on this matter. This has caused me undo grief and physical anxiety. I wish that I had sent the home back as soon as I was able to get into the home as see all these overcuts and indentions. Further more I have let a few things slide on wall repairs etc. But as I told them from the beginning that this was their error not mine. I also have not been dealing with the location that I purchased the home from. I have not had a call from my sales person nor the owner of that lot. I am dealing directly with the facility that manufactured the home. So what they have said in the original letter is incorrect.
Sincerely,
****** ****Business Response

*** ****, thank you for providing we your feedback. We are sorry to hear about the frustration you have concerning the flooring. When the home is built, the flooring material is placed first, and the walls are built on top of that flooring material. Therefore, it is impossible to replace the flooring material in one piece; if the flooring material needs to be repaired, there would be a transition bar between the original flooring material and the new flooring material. This repair method is approved by DAPIA, which is the agency that assures that the home meets HUD standards.
However, after hearing that the repair method was not the desired solution, the home building facility has made a good faith effort to present alternative solutions. The facility has offered a settlement as well as replacement flooring material. We understand that this offer has not been accepted, but Clayton has extended all of the available options. With the exception of the flooring concern, all other items mentioned will be addressed when your schedule allows, and we look forward to the opportunity to address those concerns.Initial Complaint

i bought a manufactured home in feb 2022. was told that they would come do routine maintance after 6 months of home settling . when they finally came out they yes fixed drywall cracks but repainted those spots with a different color paint and when i asked they said " i left a 5 gallon bucket , you can repaint the whole home" i have trim that is broken on the out side that i have been asking for a year to be fixed and keep getting told the company just shipped it should come in soon. i have a water issue where my kitchen sink with just shut off that i also have been calling and emailing them about for the last 5 months. they didn't hook up the heat vents and the septic wasn't set up fully and i had to have professional businesses come fix them. they do not have any good customer service skills , they are rude and think they can take advantage of people. i just want the home i paid for to be fixed so i can move on and enjoy it. their is also mismatched siding on two sides on the outside.Business Response

Mr. ******** thank you for reaching out to Clayton! We are sorry to hear about the issues that you are having with your home. Your home has a one-year warranty that specifically covers manufacturing defects. Unfortunately, some of the items mentioned are not covered under that warranty; damage to the windows that occurs after the home is installed would not be covered, as this is not a result from manufacturing. Additionally, settling of the home is a result of the property and is therefore not something that Clayton is able to control.
Clayton Homes of Amarillo received information about a water stain on the ceiling. The home center will be able to send a representative to check the roof and determine if the issue is covered under the manufacturer’s warranty; this will take place after the risk of freezing weather has passed. This is for safety reasons, as it is not safe for someone to climb the roof in freezing weather.
We have included the following link to the Homeowner’s Manual, which includes a copy of the warranty for your home.Customer Answer

Oct 1, 2022 Moved in new home by Nov 8,2022 mold grown in master bath from water run through tile shower, heat vent in master bath not working at all, sub floor popping up, floor squeaking in different areas, spare bath surrounding wall not installed correctly cause water to run out of shower there as well, kitchen countertops bubbling up, coming apart, cabinet panels loose, drawers not opening or closing correctly, missing island light, dents in Fridge, scuffs on cabinetry and uneven, trim bowed out, Holes In vinyl flooring, siding bowed, loose trim in closets, master bedroom door crooked, back door has to be dead bolted to keep shut because it not hung correctly, Freedom homes in Buckhannon was contacted as soon as every problem was noticed. The GM didn’t except pictures, or word of mouth from mine or the maintenance man about any or these or the mold and master shower leaking and spare bath surround issues along with the other issues and it took her until Jan 6, 2023 to come look for herself. She not only dismissed most the issues but said maintenance would no longer be coming out to fix anything because she’s was turning it all over to factory in NC and when they decided to come I’d have to take a week or more off work so they could come in and fix everything at once. And that even tho the contract states that any issues arises from being built will be fixed within the first year that our contract will be voided once factory comes. I’m living with mold and water leaking from taking showers and no heat in bathroom and nothing has been done. Every time I call the company i don’t get to speak to whom I’m supposed to and my calls are never returned. It’s now Jan 27, 2023 to long to be living with mold, water leaking from showering and no heat along with the other issues that aren’t as major with no resolve I haven’t heard anything from factory. They signed a contract to fix the issues they need to stand by that. I shouldn’t have to spend thousands to fix their mistakes. Please someone helpBusiness Response

On October 17th we went to Clayton Homes to pick out a trailer so we found one an put $1000 down and order it. Our salesman ***** ****** told us he would get it ordered and it should be here in 2 weeks. So he tells us we would be in it2nd week in December. Well we never heard anything so we go back in and he says oh it's another few weeks. No it's getting really serious cause we are living in a hotel. So on 11/18/2022 he order the trailer and said we would be in it by Christmas we thought no it still didn't come in. Now $10,000 in hotel room and waiting on our home to arrive. Finally we have a closing date December 3rd paid our payment of $19,000 plus the other $1000 is $ 20,000 we put down on our home. Come to find out ***** didn't order our home till after closing. So after phone calls and raising hell he tells me oh the manufacture is closed for 2 weeks ok I understand that and weather factor. So finally our trailer arrived on there lot . When we went to inspect it it was perfect when will it get set up oh weather permitting a week now this is around the first of January. Update calls every day after that. I told them if my home isn't on my lot I was backing out of the deal. Well January 20th our home arrives grader man messed up our back yard where now holds water. Put the home where it belongs dropped it and left. Few days later they come out to set it up they dropped the bricks and leaves. Now they are telling us 6 more weeks before it's ready. They have caused us emotional distress, anxiety and broke us money and spiritual problems. We are in a camper with a rented generator $350 week gas $35-$40 a day . I have a wife and mental challenged daughter I have to keep fed and warm. We are on a fixed income and we need in our home before code enforcement comes back and kicks us out of the camper.Business Response

Mr. ******, we are sorry to hear of the
frustration regarding your home build. We want to advise that once your home is
delivered to your property, it can take anywhere from 8-12 weeks, sometimes
less or more, for everything to be completed. We also do not guarantee move in dates
as stated on the contract you signed due to the fact that we do have to work
with independent contractors in order to get certain aspects of the project
completed. We are also at the mercy of weather as well, as we are sure you are
aware, this has been a very wet January with considerable rainfall leading to
muddy conditions. Again, we sympathize with your frustrations, and appreciate
your patience as we work towards a common goal.
