Complaint Against Tri-State Truck Center for Faulty Repair and Incorrect Part Installation I am submitting this formal complaint against Tri-State Truck Center, an authorized ***** repair facility, for a faulty repair and installation of an incorrect part on our ***** truck, along with their refusal to honor their stated *********** November 2024, we took our truck to Tri-State Truck Center due to an issue with air loss. Their mechanic diagnosed a faulty leveling valve and performed a repair for which we were charged over $700. We were assured that both the part and the labor were under a 1-year warranty. The truck was parked from late November until April (verifiable by ***************). When operations resumed, our driver reported the same air loss issue, and the truck was again unable to build air pressure properly.Upon inspection by a certified mechanic, it was determined that the leveling valve was defective. Furthermore, we were informed that the part installed by Tri-State was not the correct component for our truck. To confirm this, we visited *****************, an authorized ***** dealership, which verified that the installed valve was incorrect.Despite initial assurances from Tri-State that they would stand behind their work, they are now claiming no responsibility, stating that an aftermarket part was used and therefore they are not liable. This was never disclosed to us at the time of service, nor were we given the option to choose an OEM part.We now have to pay over $1,000 to have the correct part installed and resolve the same issue that Tri-State supposedly repaired. We feel this is a clear case of poor workmanship. We are seeking A full refund of the original payment We believe this situation warrants BBB intervention due to the financial loss and lack of accountability demonstrated by Tri-State Truck Center. Supporting documentation can be provided upon request.Customer Answer

Please see attached for our Tri State's invoice. Tri-State is an authorized Volvo Dealer. The issue is with Tri-State's installed part and labor. Please note- I can forward our 2nd repair invoice and it shows the correct part number. Please advise if you wish to see this invoice as well. Thank youBusiness Response

We are dealing directly with the customer to try and resolve this problem. The customer had the work done in November of 2024 and now is wanting us to pay him back for what he is claiming as a faulty part in June of 2025. We will get to the bottom of this but that is a long time after the installation time and there isn’t any warranty for the part after that long.

I am rejecting this response because as stated previously our truck was parked from December to April (we can prove it by the miles on the truck). The complaint was filed in May. The incorrect part was installed and the dealership is not willing to stand behind their completed work. I have asked the dealership to cover the cost of the part. It is not fair what happened to me. I paid twice for the same part. Again, I have receipts and millage to prove my statements.
Sincerely,

The customer stated on the phone that when the truck left my store in Springfield, MO that the truck was operating the way it should. He left the country for 8 months and came back to the truck not operating properly. There is no evidence that we did anything wrong and we can’t confirm what happened to the truck while he was away from the truck for 5 months. There will be no credit issued to the customer for our stand point.

Complaint: 23278563I am rejecting this response for the following reasons:
We have invoices from the repair shop confirming that the valve had to be replaced again with the correct part. The mechanic clearly noted that the part originally installed by Tri-State was not appropriate for our truck. It was an unauthorized aftermarket part that does not match the specifications for our vehicle.
We have documentation to support this.
After leaving Tri-State, the driver returned to Chicago, and the truck was parked over the winter. When we resumed use, it became clear the valve was leaking air. Both Volvo Buffalo and Volvo Canada have confirmed that the part installed by Tri-State does not match the part number recommended for our truck. We also have documentation from Volvo North America indicating the correct part number, which is entirely different from what was installed.
Please take a moment to review the part number and compare it. It is clear that the wrong part was installed.
Sincerely,
Ivan SaynovBusiness Response

The part was the part approved for your truck. You admitted that the truck was fine when it left Tri States shop as I was listening to the whole call between you and Michael! I have no idea what happen with your truck once you “wintered” it in Chicago and decided to come back months later and file this complaint and I have no idea what happened to the truck while you were gone. As far as I am concerned this a reach for money when you truly don’t know what happed to your truck the months that it was “wintered”.

I am rejecting this again for the following reasons:
We have clear documentation from a certified repair shop confirming that the valve your shop installed was incorrect. In addition, two other Volvo dealerships have verified that the part Tri-State installed does not belong on our truck. The part had to be bypassed just to fit — we have photos and invoices that clearly demonstrate this. There is no question: it was the wrong part.
The mechanic explicitly stated that the part you used was an aftermarket component not designed for our make and model. It was also installed without my authorization, which is completely unacceptable.
We were then forced to pay out of pocket to purchase and install the correct part — and we have all supporting invoices. The truck was parked shortly after your repair and remained off the road through the winter. The issue only became apparent when we resumed using the truck. To rule out tampering or driver error, we obtained security footage from our parking provider, clearly showing that the truck was untouched the entire time it was parked. You're welcome to review the footage for yourself. Additionally, the leveling valve is located underneath the truck — it does not fail due to sitting or weather exposure.
This is not a matter of opinion, confusion, or—as you irresponsibly suggested—a money grab. We already paid to have your mistake corrected. This is a documented installation error on your part, and we expect you to take responsibility for it.
We are not asking for labor reimbursement — only for the cost of the incorrect part that Tri-State improperly installed. It's time to stand behind your work and resolve this issue without further delay.
Sincerely,
Ivan SaynovBusiness Response

We have reviewed the ** and the ***** case. The complaint is that you had to replace the *** after we had it in our shop after we cleaned and baked the *** and DOC. You supplied me with some very vague receipts that claims you had them replaced shortly after our repairs with no diagnostics repair order from whomever replaced them. We did test and pin his filters prior to cleaning them reinstalling them and replacing the clamps and gaskets. You also want us not to charge you for Freon that we had to charge the system to diagnose a faulty ** system. We diagnosed the ** system once we had the Freon at the proper level and you declined us to do those repairs and you bought a compressor from front parts and turned it back in for credit because you said you found one online for less money. This is a 14 year old unit and we followed all the diagnostics procedures and made a quality repair at the time. We do not have any supporting evidence proving we made an improper repair and do not see any reason to make any sort of refund on the services you received. We will be responding to the BBB stating as such. Providing them with the invoice and the communications through ***** between Tri State and you.

I am an owner of a small trucking company "4 WAY LOGISTICS LLC"". On December 10, 2022 one of our trucks broke down and wehad to tow it to the nearest dealership. The truck was towed to Tri-State Truck Center in ***********, ** and they replaced the differential and a leveling valve on the truck. We picked up the truck on March 31, 2023 and paid the invoice in the amount of $11,383.03. The service team was okay, and I am thankful for their help.Unfortunately, on April 22, 2023 the truck broke down because of poor service quality. We had to repair the truck in order to continue driving, and he was too far from ***********, ** to have Tri-State Truck Center's mechanics fix it, so we had no choise but to fix it in another shop. After the repairs were done, I sent proof of the breakdown to Tri-State Truck Center's Service Team Advisor *********************, along with a repair invoice to get reimbursed. He advised that he sent all the info to the Service Manager and he should get back to me.After a couple weeks of multiple unanswered emails and phone calls, I was able to speak to their Service Manager ************************* and he told me that he will try to help me out, and I should send all the info to his direct email.I did sent all the necessary info with proof, but he never got back to me. I sent both of them one last email before contacting BBB, and asked them to get back to me, so we can at least discuss the issue, but they never replied.I consider that my complaint to BBB is reasonable and that repair shops like Tri-State Truck Center should bear responsibility for services rendered. Especially when they are a pretty big business and an official ***** dealership.Thank You. Regards.Business Response
