Let this be a warning to everyone. Altrua is not an insurance company.They do not pay for claims. Your prescriptions will not be honored.If you cancel they will make you jump through hoops to get the refund.My last contact after cancelling with them was we need a copy of your current insurance card.That has nothing to do with my cancellation.I would be embarrassed to say I worked for Altrua.They pressure you into why you cancelled. They are a scam that provides no benefits.Altrua HealthShare

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.We apologize if the Independent Member Representative (IMR) did not clearly explain the nature of the Altrua HealthShare membership. Please note that the person who offered you an Altrua membership was/is not an employee of Altrua but was an Independent Representative.
During the application process to become a member of Altrua HealthShare, you filled out an application which states in multiple places that Altrua HealthShare is NOT an insurance company and that our memberships are NOT an insurance policy. You also acknowledged each disclosure regarding the Memberships Statement of Standards and Member Commitment to live a clean and healthy lifestyle and you affirmatively acknowledged the statement,I understand that Altrua HealthShare is not insurance. The Membership that you signed up for did not include prescriptions but instead offered discounts. Altrua absolutely does share in our active members eligible medical needs as we have for the past 25 years. Because you cancelled your membership prior to its effective date, your statements that Altrua does not pay claims and your prescriptions will not be honored are unsubstantiated statements made by someone who was never an active member.
Your Membership has been cancelled and a full refund was processed on 12/9/23. We understand that a health care sharing ministry is not for everyone. We hope that you found a health care solution that suits your needs.

I was looking for health insurance and was not told that this was a health share thing. I was asked a few questions and I said now the said questions. I told perfect this will be great for you. Well I fell it. And now I'm stuck and can't get out of it. I was charged way more out of my account then was told over the phone. $463.24 I was also told I could cancel with in ten days, with no question asked. Well thats not true. I need to provide them with proof I have different insurance. I can't do that cause they took so much money from me. I just want my money back so I can find what I was actually looking for. Oh and to top it all off customer service has been extremely rude to me. I feel so stuck and screwed at the same time. DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!Altrua HealthShare

We do understand that a health care sharing ministry is not for everyone. We hope that you found a health care solution that suits your needs.

Terrible experience with Altrua Healthshare on the phone. I was looking for a legitimate quote on healthcare and it was high pressure all the way, requesting bank card info within 10 minutes of the call. The topper was that when I brought up legitimate concerns as selecting healthcare shouldn't be entered into lightly and requires much research to ensure you're getting the right fit for you and your family, I was passed off to 3 people. They got more aggressive each time I asked questions and apparently think it's acceptable to bully people into purchasing their product. The last person I spoke to was rude, sarcastic and told me "good luck" before letting me finish my question and hung up on me. When I read through the agreement they sent, this is not something I would have signed up for had I known that there is a statement of standards you are required to sign. Read carefully!! I do not agree with their statement and they should be upfront about who they are representing when they call you. If the rate sounds to good to be true, it's too good to be true.Altrua HealthShare

Altrua HealthShare is a wonderful alternative to costly health insurance, but people need to understand it's NOT actually health insurance. It's an option which is more affordable because it doesn't operate the same way. This is made abundantly clear in Altrua's membership guidelines, yet most of the complaints and bad reviews are from people claiming to not know this. After reading pages of complaints, three things become clear:1) There are shady third-party brokers out there misleading clients into thinking they're purchasing a traditional health policy, then those clients proceed to sign Altrua's documents without reading them first. (Again, Altrua makes it very clear that it does NOT provide "Health Insurance.")2) Many complainants either didn't read or didn't understand Altrua's Membership Guidelines and simply assumed it works like traditional insurance. These people were surprised and upset they had to pay a medical provider out of pocket, then follow a protocol for reimbursement from Altrua. (And in many cases, it appears they were blaming Altrua for delays when it was their own provider who failed to provide the necessary documents.)3) Some complainants weren't reimbursed for their bills because medical records showed they lied on the application, either regarding their health history or lifestyle choices ( i.e. drug, alcohol or tobacco use.) Since Altrua is NOT a health insurance company, they have the right to require certain standards of belief and behavior, and every applicant must sign a statement attesting to this.Altrua isn't for everyone, but it's an affordable alternative especially for people who make healthy choices and rarely need medical care, but might need help with a serious injury. Plus you get access to Telemedicine for a convenient way to deal with little nuisances like allergies or UTI's. After three years with Altrua, we have no complaints.Altrua HealthShare

BEWARE!! This is a scam. It all came together way too quickly, too easily, and too inexpensively. When I said I wanted to pause the process process to do a bit more research, some punk kid came on and talked smack to me immediately, trying to bully me into staying. My Son, lost insurance, and was begin required to obtain insurance for school, in his research he came across Altura HealthShare. He left spent ****** of his own money he did not really have to get insurance, so he would be good to play College ball. While he thought he had insurance when the school looked into it, they declined the insurance and had him purchase insurance through ********** blue shield. He arrived at college on the 18th of August and Phone Altrua on the 24th to cancel which the phone call lasted 6 min and 40 seconds. Again, I have all call logs, they said he was cancelled but he phoned back today and told him he did not call back in the 10 days so he will not get his money back. Now he has all the call logs, and they are telling him he has only called twice, and they and they only have recording of his calls twice. He called this morning before heading to class and the customer service Rep was rude, unprofessional and basically told him he was s*** out of luck. I understand this was not an insurance company hints why he canceled on the 24th of August; they told him he would have his money within **** days. Well, here we are on the 18th and now they are claiming he did not cancel in time. and He called and cancelled before the 1st when the health share was supposed to be activated. Someone needs to give my son his money back. NOW.Altrua HealthShare

1 starI feel like Altrua is a scam. First, their Web site was hard to navigate and finding a provider with one option in my area was frustrating. It also didn't list what kind of provider they were so I had to manually look them up. Also, they told me it's used wide spread in **************** and most my previous providers should take it. Never once did they tell me that I would have to pay for the appt up front and then they would reimburse me. I should have researched them before I signed more than $400 to be with them. I guess I thought since they were a ****************** there is no way they would rip me off. Actually it never even crossed my mind. But then again I signed through an agency that doesn't facilitate or represent them... something like that. My bad. ****** learned.
