On May 5th, ****, I purchased a firm mattress at the Rent-A-Center for $558.71. It had to be ordered, so I could not try it out in the store. After the mattress was delivered, on May 11th, I returned to the store and told the employee, ***********************, that it was not supportive enough and that I want to return it and get a refund. She said I signed something that said no refunds are allowed, however I never received a copy of it. I have my receipt, but it does not say "no refunds". She said she would talk with the store manager and see if I could get another firm mattress, but she said they don't have any firm mattresses, only soft ones. I called the store several times on ****, ****, ****, ****, to speak with her, but she was not there. On 5- 16, I called Rent-A-Center customer service, **************, and spoke with *********************, reference # *******, to file a complaint. I was told that their manager, *************************, will call me, but I never heard from him. And I tried to call them again but could not get through. On 5-22-23, I filed a complaint to *********************** of ********* Goods and Services, phone number, **************, Complaint case # ****-230.Business Response

I walked into the rent a center store 50/23/2023 2:45 pm to 3:00 pm and spoke with someone claiming to be named manager *********************************** at ************************************************************* whom checked my application and stated I cussed at previous employees when they picked up their products and when they cussed at me, yelled at me, which should be considered harassment, discrimination and unethical treatment.Afterwords the manager told me he was not going to accept my application, approve my application and to take might money elsewhere.. , as well as denying me from submitting my application when I already submitted **********.When I asked Manager *********************************** if anything he stated was discretionary such as the entire month down payment and insurance he stated no, that it wasnt written anywhere for me to see or sign. Neither was anything he stated to be discreet mentioned on the application I submitted online. When I asked ******** if anything was written as hes stating, that I make an entire monthly payment and I have insurance on my item he stated no.Customer Answer

I received a message from ***** who stated he was Rent A Centers district manager. May 25, 2023 9:14 pm.
I spoke with him on the same day for 18 minutes about my previous relationship with another manager and his current manager that Im not familiar with. Manager ***** stated being truthful is important to him during that conversation. ***** also asked me I stated my employer is Circle K and I replied yes. Then he mentioned why they allow an entire month payment and thats to help people with their payments to pay early instead of weekly. ***** then stated how can we resolve the situation.. I stated Im unsure all I wanted was a computer to rent to own among furniture because Rent A Center is my favorite store to buy from. So I didnt directly answer the question. Manager ***** told me ******** has always been a manager and I had problems with him. But it was always the other sale representatives that I spoke with about my account and not the manager who was never there when I went to the store for my payments. Other representatives who were rude to me, cussed at me and yelled at me when they picked up their return. After explaining my side of the situation Distric Manager ***** told me, its better I dont do business with Rent A Center, he didnt state forever or just the *********** businesses but from my understanding hes wanting to keep me away from every Rent A Center in the country. He also told me to change my review and stated that somethings I mentioned on my complaint to BBB were untrue.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: I received a call today @ 10:23 from Manager *****, using his tactics to lure me into a deal and to ignore his response on the BBBs website, when he is blaming me, without being specific on what matter actually is the reason for their action. Im a paying customer being denied any rights to enter a store without a reason except retaliation on behalf of Management ***** whom has problems with many others. This needs to be addressed to the cooperation of Rent a Center and also if necessary Id like to file a lawsuit if it permits for Rent A Centers actions upon me as a customer. Before I left ********************** I was asked if I work at Circle K and to verify my address during the conversation when everything was asked and verified by the clerk who took my application already. My boyfriend is an attorney In *********** and he will be notified of this if necessary.

I am rejecting this response because: ***** Center isnt being brief about what they want to do to move forward, so far Im not being told I cant enter then business or if I cant do business with them specifically. Also Id like the *********************** Cooperation number and Id be very much obliged if this information is sent to the cooperation so they can settle this matter exactly. If not then Id like to know if I can pursue legal action for filling an online application then going into the building just to be treated awful by management over previous employees who have fibs with others and whom are no longer employed with the business possibly. Also the discretionary on the business and how they charge a month a head of time needs to be submitted to proper authorities because I didnt read how the Rent A Center could do that without it being noted on an application.Initial Complaint

Ive rented a sofa from rent a center in Brooklyn for a week, I explained to them that Im working evenings and when they pick up during the day they should call my colleague and I gave them his phone number, next day they came to pick up and called me and obviously I didnt answer because Im not around during the day, I called them the next day and they said that they are marking down my colleagues phone number and will call him when they come, this happened a few times. I got frustrated and asked to get in touch with a manager, I spoke with him and he said that he will make sure to get the right phone number and pick up information, This kept happening a few times until 1 day when I called to schedule another pickup they said rhat the sofa has been paid up by the weekly rental payments and I can keep it, but I dont need it, I never intended to buy it, but theres nobody ti speak to in the store, they said the manager that dealt with me is not employed anymore with them and I need to call corporate, Ive been calllig corporate for a few months and keep getting reference numbers and assurances that a regional manager will reach out to me but so far I havent received any calls or voice mails or emails, the sofa was never used besides for that first week its been laying around here in storage and in my way, Im not really sure what to do at this point anymoreBusiness Response

The excessive sales calls and harassing payment calls when I have advised them numerous times to take the weekly payment as promised off the same credit card they have on file and have been using for over a year. To whom it may concern:
I have communicated on SEVERAL occasions with the store as well as the district manager, ****. They continue to call me with sales calls weekly, I have all the logged calls.
They have all the necessary information to proceed with my weekly payments, but they still continue to call me and harass me, sometimes they call and hang up on me.When I call the store, they tell me that I am set up for autopay, so they don't know why I'm calling them. Then they ask me to confirm the credit card information that they already have on file.
They proceed to charge me a $2.00 convenience fee on a weekly basis because their system has a flow in it. I didn't have this issue before I contacted the BBB. When I reach out to the DM, he tells me I need to contact the store location.
When I contact the store location, they make excuses, hang up on me or put me on hold for an excessive amount of time. When has the customer finally had enough? I'm getting to my breaking point. I have tried to be reasonable. I have accommodated them more than any customer should. I have gone over and beyond. They are being extremely difficult to handle, subsequently has had me inquire with a law office with my rights etc. I came to the BBB as my first step to see if we can solve this mutually and respectfully, but they are not nice.
Just take the weekly payment like you have been. Stop calling me because your system has a flaw. Stop charging me $2.00 every week because of YOUR COMPANY ERROR. Stop trying to sell me more goods, enough with the sales calls. I've been very nice and patient, but enough is enough.

After the response stating they were going to put me on a do not call list, this afternoon, Tuesday June 6th at 1:44 p.m. ***** called me and left me a voicemail regarding a sale that they have going on right now. So, basically they are still calling me and the call has nothing to do with the payment. The payment was received as promised, it was already pulled from my account on Saturday. ********************** stated in their last communication they were not going to call me anymore, but they lied, because I received a phone call today and I have it on a recording and I can send it to you for evidence. If you continue to harass me, I will have no choice but to hire legal counsel, this is ridiculous already. Just stop calling me already! Period The end.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
The way they write their scheduled payments and then change the final due date isn't fair at all. All this time my due date was the 18th. I called on the 15th of May to pay off and I was told it was May 5th my final day. I will not continue to purchase anything from them ever again I've bought a lot of furniture in the past and I've never had any issues with the payoff amount or the date until I went to this Rooms To Go location in Colonial. It all comes to the manager. I was told I still have an interest while paying from February to May when I did my contract I had zero interest until I reach my 3 months so all this time I've been paying interest still with my payment. That's what I was told by the manager over the phone. Even with good history from the past, she had no interest in helping me at all. I have one recp it says one price with the pay off and over the phone she states all the fees I need to pay never mention that at all. I've never had a problem at all like I said in the past. My balance on my room to go paper says $879.29. Again I will never shop there again or anyone who's affiliated with your company. You can come and pick up your furniture. Let me know when so I can have someone here since I work.

This Rent A Center keeps harassing me and my family with repeated calls, up to three times a day, to receive payment. I contacted them on more than one occasion to let them know the payment would be paid up to current by 10 am on the 16th of May. They are now refusing to allow me to pay on that day, stating that it either is paid today or the item is picked up. They have even gone as far s as contacting the military police on *************** to recover the payment. I have utilized different rent a centers and have NEVER been repeatedly harassed and bullied by the employees. It is to the point where all the employees and managers in this location are extremely disrespectful and cut off my sentences when I call into the store. I dont feel comfortable with contacting them as they have proven on numerous occasions to be rude and unprofessional. I will pay off the remainder of the balance and will not be utilizing their services in this location again. *** heard orders speak to similar experiences with this store, so I dont believe I am alone in my assessments.Business Response

This started after I had purchased a bed from rent a center in *******, *******. The manger Casity promised to have someone come out to fix my bed. After 3 weeks I contacted the support line a manager by the name of ****** called I explained how the delivery drivers were cursing and being rude to my kids. Next the black woman came out to my house cursing my daughter out! I complained again and spoke to Mr ******* I also did a survey on the store performance. Today May 12,2023. I went in to make a payment. ***** took my payment. I was asking if there were any specials to start an agreement. I was very professional when the employee I reported for cursing me and my daughter out came up to confront me. I walked off and let her know I would also be reporting her again, I called the police because I felt threatened and obtained a police report! I will be seeking legal action. This is unacceptable for any business. I would like to speak with the highest level of management at this point! I have made several complaints. I went in the store to make a payment and was threatened by the associate I complained on. The manager was there said nothing and lied to the police about what happened! This store is full of junkies and unprofessional employees! I made a police report and will be seeking civil and criminal actions! This is absolutely ridiculous! Just because Ive been late doesnt give anyone permission to speak to me nor my children recklessly!Business Response
