I first visited Nuvia Dental in Houston, TX in October 2023 to inquire about implants. I was helped by Jared B*** and a lady whose name I do not know. I was told that to proceed I would need to make a deposit of $1000. I was then explained the process. Everything seemed a little rushed but I was super excited about getting my teeth fixed. I filled out the paper work and was told I would need to come back and get impressions done and meet with the doctor. I would then pay the balance. The lady left the office and when she came back the atmosphere changed and I was told that they could do everything that day. I was so excited that it would be done that I agreed. I was then told I would need to pay the balance that day. I was told I would see the doctor and get everything done. I paid the balance of $48K by wire transfer. They were VERY quick to take my money before even talking to the doctor. I told them of my medical issues up front so they knew. I was scheduled for an appointment on Nov 1st. I called on the first to see if I could come earlier I was told that they could not do the surgery and that the doctor would call me. I am glad I called because my appointment was canceled. It is an 1.5 hour drive to the nuvia office. I received a call from the surgeon and he said that he would not do the surgery due to my Auto immune dieses. He told me it was Nuvia choice to not do the surgery and that I would get a full refund. I called Jared that day and asked him to initiate the refund ASAP. He told me it would be 5-7 days and they would wire me back the money. I have since called every few days to see where my refund is. I has been almost 30 days and I have still not received my refund. I am now told that a check is in the mail. They gave me a UPS Tracking that shows not picked up by UPS. They have lied, not called me back, not responded to texts or call. I have tried to reach out to their corporate office and they just send me back to the Houston office.Business Response

Hello,
I am writing this e-mail on behalf of ***** *****. My Father went in for a free consultation on 9/29/2023. During that time he met with Albert C****, Sales Consultant. During that time my Dad completed the application for credit with Lending Club and was approved. After careful consideration my Dad decided against because on his retirement money, he simply does not make enough to cover that extra bill.
I reached out to Mr. Albert C**** and he advised me that he would be charged a cancellation fee of 50%. I am wondering why if my Dad never met with the Doctor, he simply went in for his consultation. The loan agreement gives the customer 13 days to cancel. Albert took advantage of my Dad. He is a retired senior citizen with very little and speaks & understands very little English.
Additionally, Albert sent me my Dad's scans without asking. How is he releasing medical records without the patient's consent? His response to my e-mail was "We don't enforce that". Your company doesn't enforce HIPPA?
I am attaching my communication with Albert to this e-mail. I need someone from the corporate office to contact me as soon as possible.

I met with Mr. T***** on 6/26/2023 to discuss a full mouth dental implant. Was told the price would be 48K which I agreed to. My surgery was scheduled for 7/18/2023. When prepping for this surgery I was hooked up to a heart monitor. After the people involved viewed the monitor, they determined I had heart problems, and the procedure was too risky to proceed. I than went to my cardiologist he also found it too risky to have surgery and he sent a letter to NUVIA informing them of this. I was then told I would receive a full refund of 48K dollars. I have contacted NUVIA several times and they keep telling me about the check for 48 thousand dollars will be sent. To date I have not received the check. All this was done at NUVIA implant centre *** *** ****** *** ***** *** San Antonio TX 78258 Tel: ###-###-####. I need help getting my refund. They are slow rolling me I am really concerned they may have no intention of refunding my money. I am 89 years old living alone and need that money. Please help. Thank you.Business Response

We understand that *** was unable to undergo surgery with Nuvia Dental Implant Center. The refund process requires several signatures. We are in the process of getting that taken care of ASAP. It was sent in to our corporate office on Friday. Kandyce (GM in San Antonio) is always happy to answer any questions you may have on an ETA. Thanks.Initial Complaint

This facility convinced me I had periodontal disease, bone loss, cavities etc. Went over my dental scans with me and everything. Sent me a copy of my scan with the findings by the dentist. I made an appointment and the day before they canceled because they had mixed me up with another patient. ** the person who called to tell me the news said the dentist told him he mustve really been busy that day and didnt pay attention. What kind of laws are broken when you email another patient someone elses dental records?Business Response

We have explained to this patient, on numerous occasions (and by multiple doctors), that she is not a candidate for this surgery. We had our clinical team view her case and they have all agreed that it would be unethical to remove her teeth due to them being too healthy. She is unhappy, and we understand that, but there is nothing more we can do.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:I spoke to ONE doctor ONE time AFTER I filed this complaint and he apologized for all the miscommunication on the part of Nuvia and admitted a doctor should have spoken to me from the beginning. Not a sales rep! ******* dont like the fact that Nuvia has lied in their response to the BBB. Thats not right at all. They also skip over the fact that they gave me a medical report that was for another patient and completely confused me with another patient! There were no conversation with anyone but the sales rep until after my reviews of their company.
Sincerely,

I am sorry that there is a frustration, but we will not remove teeth that are too healthy for our product. That is unethical and we are unwilling to do that. Our clinical team met, regarding this patient, and decided (as a whole) that she is not a candidate. She may have only spoken with one doctor (on more that one occasion) but did have multiple docs look over her case. The Smile Consultant reached out to her and also spoke with her several times. We did accidentally send her ******** with the wrong name but apologized and rectified this situation. There is no reason that we speak with this potential patient again.Initial Complaint

Ive been going to Nuvia Dental Implant Center in *******, ** since July 27th. I paid $48,000. Surgery occurred on July 28th. In the interim I have had 10 appointments with breakages. Today, I called and they stated that it would be an additional 2- 4 weeks. Since that date, Ive been to the doctor numerous times including a gastroenterologist and cardiologist, lost over 40lbs, numerous medical issues, a bacterial infection, and Im still taking medications that I was not taking prior to the surgery. The prosthetic is ill fitting and flops up and down. I want a refund for gas, medical services, emotional distress, and cost for a permanent replacement solution. Going back to this place is not an option. The staff that was employed when I started the process have left. Dr * is running a one man show with all employees asking questions before they proceed to the next step. Sometimes the wait is hours long and visits last hours. I have documentation from my physician, medical records from emergency room visits, referrals to gastroenterologist, and cardiologist. I would also like to be compensated for time off from work.Business Response

The second week of December 2022 I received full mouth dental implants. At the time of the surgery my bottom implants were placed in with only three of four screws. For some reason one of the screws would not go in and it was told that when I come back in 2 weeks for a follow-up that it would be fixed. I came back within 2 weeks and was told I needed to come back again. I have been back twice after that with no solution. I have talked to people on the phone and have been told I would receive a call back and have not received any call back concerning this situation. The last time I talked to them was a little over two weeks ago and they said they're waiting on the lab. I cannot understand how they do teeth in a day and I am waiting over 2 months. I had no problem with their service but I am concerned about one of the screws not being in and what the long-term effects will be. I have no idea why the screw could not go in and I am worried it's something more serious.Customer Answer

Hello ******,
We are very sorry about any inconvenience you have had when looking to move forward with Nuvia for your wife's treatment. You have been fully refunded. We have felt that everything has been handled in a timely manner, especially because deposits on treatment are generally non-refundable, which is stated clearly in the treatment acceptance form. However, we do strive hard to work with our patients and provide an excellent experience, so any and all refunds are handled on an individual basis.
For a little clarity, here is a timeline of the events.
May 25th - Initial patient consult
July 8th - Patient Requested Refund
July 12th - Refund was signed by Smile Consultant (and sent to central operations for processing)
July 26th - Refund was received by patient
Again, we are sorry about any inconvenience this has caused you, but hope you can understand that when we are dealing with individual refunds it can take 1-2 weeks to be fully processed.Customer Answer
