I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the billing practices of Dr. Chaya K************’s medical office in connection with a visit that occurred on August 27, 2024.

On that date, I had a brief appointment with Dr. K************ that lasted less than 10 minutes. However, I was billed for CPT code *****, which is reserved for visits lasting 45-59 minutes. Upon reviewing my medical chart, I discovered that Dr. K************ falsely documented that our face-to-face time was 35 minutes, with a total visit time of 60 minutes. I have timestamped documents showing that the chart was completed only 36 minutes after my scheduled appointment time and approximately 10 minutes after I left the office.

I raised my concerns with the office and was ignored for almost two months until they informed me that the additional time billed included non-qualifying administrative work, such as pre-authorizations, which is not permissible under medical billing guidelines. Not only is this in violation of Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance contracts, but it is also a misrepresentation of the actual services rendered.

Despite my attempts to resolve this matter with Dr. K************’s office, they have refused to correct the bill or issue a refund. I believe this practice may reflect broader fraudulent activity, which could affect other patients as well.

They made an appointment to do a procedure based on a referral from the hospital for cancer screening. They then called back and cancelled the appointment because I had seen another doctor (granite peaks GI) over a year ago, and have an ongoing billing dispute with them. I am now delayed in a possible cancer diagnoses while I set up care with another organization, wasting valuable time and effort for sheer greed.
