I called this office today after finding it on the ***** website, and was delighted to be given an emergency appointment for this afternoon because I am having an issue. The woman asked what my insurance was and I told her ***** and read her my ID number, which I assumed she was plugging into the system. Upon arrival, I presented my insurance card and was informed, "Someone was trying to call you. We don't accept ***** Connect." I looked at my phone and saw that a call had come in that I had sent to voicemail because I was on a call. I told the receptionist that whomever had called had not left a message, and she insisted that they had. I assured her that that was a lie. I pulled out my other insurance card, which shows that I have VSP for vision, and she glanced at it and said they don't take that. She asked if I wanted to pay out of pocket and I asked how much that would be. First she said $175, but then looked at the other receptionist and asked her something I didn't understand, and came back to me and said that because it was a "medical" appointment, they would "have to wait to see what codes the doctor fills out." Excuse me? I said, "So you're telling me that you have absolutely no idea how much the cost would be?" and she said yes, as if that were an acceptable answer. I left in a rage, and when I got home, I called VSP and learned that they DO take it, and even though their website claims they accept it for ODs only and not MDs, the MDs at that location, including ****************, whom I was supposed to see, are indeed covered. Bottom line: Richmond Eye Associates had no reason for turning me away. They also lied about leaving a voicemail and were thoroughly uncooperative and unprofessional in their ignorance. I would never recommend them to anyone.
