My mother is in early to mid stages of dementia. My mother went to Tidewater Sew Vac Newport News and was sold a ****** vacuum which is more of a carpet sweeper that she did not need. My mother can no longer read. The very next day she tried to return the vacuum carpet sweeper and she said that the man in there was very mean to her. Told her no refunds that the sign is posted on the wall. My mother's friend who was with her both times confirmed this. I called the President **** ********** and she was very rude and unprofessional. She was already familiar with what I was calling about because my mother tried to return the vacuum carpet sweeper. I explained to her my mother's illness and that her purchase was a mistake and should have never happened. I told her that my mother is not using the vacuum carpet sweeper, has not need for it. She told me that she can can't refund me her money but can exchange it. I told her there was nothing in her store that my mother can use as if it did not register with her that my mother has dementia. She said "well get her a sewing machine and take her credit card from her" I then told her that they took advantage of an elderly ill person for a sale. The sweeper vac is brand new and I want my mother's money back. Not good business practices based on this situation. Shame on this place.

Please understand that this complaint is not coming from our
customer, but from her daughter.  We made
this sale under good faith with customer.
During the vacuum demonstration, our manager asked this customer 4 times
if she wanted to purchase this vacuum and each time she said yes.  In no way was the customer forced to purchase
this vacuum and she was very happy with her purchase when she left the store.   As far
as the credit card remark, the customer’s daughter mentioned that her mom makes
purchases she shouldn’t all of the time and I asked her “why did the customer
still have a credit card?”.  It just
seemed like a logical question and perhaps something the daughter needed to
      consider.
As I stated to the daughter, we have a no refund policy and
it is posted in our store, in BOLD PRINT on the customer’s receipt and also
stated on the credit card receipt that the customer signed.
      We stand by this policy.
      Thank you,
      **** **********
