For my recent kitchen remodel, I hired *** at Ace Iron Works to update my railing. He set me up with someone to measure and do a custom fabrication. When my contractor came in to start construction, I asked that communication to happen between *** and my building team. *** insisted there was no need, but at the time, I was not familiar with building terminology or what kind of seemingly minimal changes might come up and negatively affect my project. I tried to explain this to ***, but I felt it was completely dismissed. When my contractor reached out to him regarding a section of my home that was being considered for an aesthetic modification where the railing would be installed, *** cleared the modification without running the inquiry past the person who was in charge of measuring and building. Not to mention, *** had never been in my home and didn't know what the project looked like, aside from the photos sent by my contractor. The change was made and it turned out to be the reason the railing did not fit. It has now been 3 weeks since my contractor came back and made agreed-upon changes for a modified railing to fit, and it will be another 3 weeks before the rebuild is finished. A rebuild for which I am expected to pay an additional $2k on top of the roughly $5k already paid. While trying to explain to *** why I would like to now be in contact with the person who will be building the new railing, he hung up on me after repeatedly disregarding my wishes and shifting blame to my trusted contractor. I have already agreed to pay the additional charges, despite my belief that it was his refusal to communicate that has put us in this position. I have been advised to take it to court, but I don't wish to escalate things that far. However, I can't let this go without others knowing what they are getting into when working with this company. He has a lot of good reviews, but I happen to know that online companies can pay to not have their negative reviews published.
