      Dear Ms. Castro,
This letter is in response to the complaint you submitted to the Better Business Bureau.
The tow for your vehicle was requested by Kerry from Michael’s Auto Repair on your behalf. We invoiced the body shop directly, as they maintain an account with our company. As a result, you were not required to pay any charges up front.
Our standard towing rates are as follows:

      $185.00 hookup fee

$7.00 per mile for local tows

      3% fuel surcharge

$150.00 garage extraction fee (you were only charged $120.00)

Garage extraction fees apply to vehicles located inside parking garages due to the complexity and additional labor required. Additionally, since the body shop was billed directly, no sales tax (10.3%) was added to your invoice.
These rates are consistent and charged to all customers under similar circumstances. If there had been any concerns about the cost, we would have been happy to provide a quote prior to the tow had we been contacted in advance. However, as the service occurred over a year ago, we are unable to adjust or refund any charges at this time.
Regarding your concerns about vehicle damage: your vehicle was towed due to mechanical issues including failure to start, a check engine light, and a dead battery resulting from inactivity. These are unrelated to the towing process. We did not handle or interfere with your engine or the starter motor. Furthermore, we have no record of you contacting us or filing a damage claim following the service.
Lastly, the amount you are requesting in compensation is nearly three times the original invoice total. Unfortunately, given the time that has elapsed and the lack of a documented claim, we are unable to take further action.
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

My truck was towed by Mac's towing, I am not contesting the reason for tow but the charges. I retrieved the truck the next morning at a cost of $427.36. I asked to review their *************************** of licensing official fees. At the bottom it states "no other rates or charges may be made other than those prescribed on this firm". However, a 3% credit card use fee was added and an RTAX 10.3% tax. This does not appear to align with the above statement of fees.

I got a flat tire at ********* on 85th/**************************. I have aaa but it was Friday night and didnt wanna wait 2-3 hours to get tire changed. So I called Mac towing that was just down the street and asked them about changing my tire for me. Tow truck driver called back and I told him I have aaa but dont ***na wait for a couple hours how much to change my tire. I heard him say $150 and that he could be there in 30 minutes. I said back to him $150 yeah Ill do that its better than waiting for aaa. So he showed up on 25 minutes, barely spoke to me, he hooked my car up to his tow truck and raised it to change my tire. After he was done. He left my car on tow truck and I walked up to me and said the total was $280. I told him no you said $150 over the phone and I repeated it back to you. He wouldnt take my car off his truck until I paid him the $280. I would have waited for aaa for that amount of money. When he arrived never once did he confirm the price to me. He should have confirmed the price with me when he arrived because I would have said umm no you said $150 and would have declined his service and called aaa. I called Mac towing in the morning and they where not helpful and said theyd file a complaint. I do not believe them. I always hear horror stories about dishonest tow truck drivers and companys. They get your vehicle on there tow truck and wont let you go until the squeeze you for money

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration you experienced.
Upon reviewing your situation, it appears there may have been a misunderstanding regarding the pricing. Our day rate differs from our night rate, and it's possible that the quoted price you received over the phone was based on our daytime rates. We understand how this discrepancy could be upsetting and we regret any miscommunication that occurred.
We value your feedback and would like to resolve this issue to your satisfaction. Please feel free to contact our management team directly at [contact number or email] to discuss the matter further. We are committed to addressing your concerns and improving our service.

My **** Lexus RX330 was recently impounded by Mac towing. Im currently homeless and live in my vehicle and have lost shelter. On Sept 21st my vehicle was parked at my friend's apartments in her reserved parking spot. I received a warning sticker by security and it said the car would be impounded because it was inoperable the date it would be towed was left blank and the time was listed as any time. I immediately called the office and left them a voicemail regarding the vehicle and letting them know that it was not inoperable but I had lost the key to my car and was dealing with AAA to get that resolved which I can show proof of calls and text messages between me and AAA and also three separate locksmiths. Unfortunately the first locksmith who came out was not qualified and broke something off in the ignition and made a key that was not the proper key for my vehicle. I found this out because a second locksmith came out and informed me that the ignition had been damaged and that the key given to me would not work for my vehicle therefore I had to go back and forth with AAA to try to get this resolved which took some time. In the meantime a security officer came to the property that following Monday evening and I spoke with him about the vehicle I let him know that the vehicle was operable and the situation with the key I was not illegally parked I had permission to park in my friends reserved parking spot the security guard told me not to worry about it the car would not be impounded and I could even remove the sticker so I did. I have photographs of this sticker and at the time I also wrote a note to management and security letting them know that the car was operable that I was dealing with the locksmith to get a working key and that I also lived in my vehicle and I had that posted on my car as well. The day the locksmith finally made me a key which was the 30t of September I left to shower and returned & my car was gone. I have a ton of personal items in my car.

My compact sedan car was towed on 09/04/2022 in ********, **. The tow was completed at early morning and I picked up my car within 6 hours on the same day.I was required to pay $525.73 to get my car back. The breakdowns are $33 for half days storage fee, $317.5 for towing charges (**** hours of work at $254/hour), $127 for after-hour release fee, plus taxes. Its less than 6 hours from my car being towed to being picked up by myself, but Mac Towing charged me a hefty $525.73.As ********, ** doesnt seem to provide ordinances on towing charges, this is probably legal gray area, but I definitely feel robbed by the business. According to ******** guidelines (https://www.*******.gov/your-rights-as-a-customer/find-a-towed-car/************************************-authorized-impounds), You will pay less by promptly retrieving your towed car from the storage lot. You pay no storage fee for the first 12 hours. but I still got charged the storage fee. Besides, the towing company works 24/7 to tow cars to make profits, so the after-hour release fee of hefty $127 plus taxes doesnt make much sense to me. All of us know its just another way to rip off victims. Last but not the least, hourly rate of $254 is way more than ******** guidelines in the link above, let alone to mention that it took them **** hours to tow my car for less than 5 miles.

On 9/4/22 ******** *********** contacted us to impound *******, 2018 ***** Accord.  The reason the vehicle was impounded was because ************ had no parking signs and tow away signs posted for multiple days leading up to a large city even.  There was to be no parking on that street from 4am to 1pm.  ********************* called us at 5:04am to impound this vehicle.
********, mentioned that he looked information for the *************** as it pertain to impound and towing rates.  We are not located in the city of the ******* and ******* rates have nothing to do with the ****************.  Our rates are posted outside of our office and on the wall when you enter of office.  We are a RTTO, registered tow truck operator and our rates are set by **************** Patrol and in fact every procedure that we have is set by **************** patrol.  Attach is our rate sheet.  The 1st column up top shows the rates for ******** *********** ****** for the first hour and additional time is charged in 1/4hr increments.  Toward the bottom it also has the rate for storage which is listed under WSP rate which is 66.00.  Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm.  Any vehicles redeemed after 5pm on Friday though 8am on Monday incurs an after fee of 127. That is the charge to get a driver down to the office for the release.

******** car  was impounded on a Sunday and redeemed that same day, so after hour fee was added.  Storage starts as soon as the vehicle gets here and is charged in 12hr increments.  So from 1min to 12hr is a day storage and then at 12hr 1 min to 24hr an additional half day storage is added.  The *** that refers to that is 46.55.063 and it is also on the rate sheet in our office.  The call was started at 5:04am and entered at 6:38am which would have equal 1.5hr at ******.  ******* was only charged ****hr.  The reason for additional time was due to road closures related to the Marathon, which is also the reason the no parking signs were posted and the veh was impounded.

When the vehicle was released, ******** was given a form called a hearing request form.  He could have taken this form and contacted that court on top, ******** courthouse to contest the impounding of the veh and to also contest the amount paid, if he felt it was incorrect.  If the judge rulled in his favor, his money would have been returned to him.  He would have had 10 days from 9/4 to contact the court.  I spoke to him on 9/12/22 at  2:12pm and explained everything that I explained above, with our rates, how storage is calculated, and the after hour fee.  He kept asking if I though it was fair that he was charged over 500 dollars.  I explained again that are rates are regulated by the state and if he would want to contest it, he would need to use the hearing request form and contact the court.   Everything we have done was by the book.  I have attached a copy of the invoice as well  ******** was charged for 1/2 day of storage, ****hr impound fee and an after hours fee as well as say tax.
