On Feb. 10, ************************************************************ a manufacture home on the **** section of Home Advisor. Coast Salish sent a representative to my house the next day. I explained to him that this house heats up terribly and I wanted an exhaust fan to ventilate the main living space and shutter fans mounted near the peak of my house at each end to exhaust the heat that builds up in the attic area above the bedroom areas. Later I figured out that Coast Salish does not have any employees that are certified to do **** work so they wouldnt be able to do the interior work, but I still want shutter fans installed to ventilate the attic spaces over the bedroom areas. They sent an electrician over and he explained to me how the shutter fans would be wired and and how I would be able to control them from inside the house with a programmable timer. His name was ***** and I have complete confidence that he would do a good job.On Feb. 15, 2023 I put half down on this project. Since that time I have called Coast Salish several times and sent several emails but they keep putting off installing the shutter fans with no actual explanation. I want the shutter fans installed.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: I want them to set a date to install the shutter fans. They chose very cheap, low quality shutter fans without even asking me. I found out about that and chose better quality shutter fans.

I am rejecting this response because: I'm sorry to hear about your family's loss. I don't have a clue about what you mean by "both solutions". I have contacted you many times by phone and email trying to discuss the specifics and timing of this project over the last 2 1/2 months. This is exactly the right forum to discuss my project. The fans are in so please be specific about when you are going to install them.

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to respond here. Coast Salish has told me via email they will start the installation of the shutter fans at 10:00 AM on Thursday May 4, 2023.
I emailed them back and said that ************* is good for me.

On May 4, Coast Salish installed two shutter fans with programmable switches on the outside of my manufactured home. Originally I wanted them to install an exhaust fan in the ceiling of the main living space but found out that they dont have the people that are trained or certified to do this kind of work so I canceled the interior half of the job a few weeks earlier. On May 4, the installers came and just after that the owner of Coast Salish arrived and brought the fans and programmable switches and left them out and available to the installers. Then he came in my house TWICE and very loudly tried to bully me into doing a very large ventilation project in my house. He wanted to run vent pipe 15 feet through a wall to an outside wall and put a fan in the vent pipe. He was loud and I had to say no loudly more than once. A couple of days after the shutter fans were installed I got out the packaging for the programmable switches. They were Honeywell Home # RPLS530A. The outside of the package clearly says, for use with lights only and the Applications say in bold print cannot be used with a motor. If I had left these switches in place they would have caused the fan motors to fail and/or heat up and start a fire. My other complaint is that when I paid for this work in February, Coast Salish charged me sales tax for a local city which is 1.2 % higher than the county I live in. I have asked them to send me the completed warranties on the fans and a description and receipt for the work done but so far they have not done that.Business Response

The Install was per her equipment design and locations and performed to all codes and standards. ***** changed her mind three times in the process and sent back and reordered twice. ***** doesn't even know her current city tax rate which recently has changed and is current for the city of ****. She signed off as being complete and needs to pay her bill. The Warranty is a point of sale in the ******************* with the manufactures and is not on the installers job to fill out. Again, BBB is not an email or the forum for conversation.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: I live in Thurston County (8% sales tax) not the ************ (9.2% sales tax.) The applicable uses for Honeywell Home programmable switch # RPLS530A is "For use with lights only" and "cannot be used with motors".Customer Answer

On May 4th Coast Salish installed shutter fans on my manufactured home near the peaks on both ends. The owner brought the fans for his employees to install but did not bring any framing material. He told his employees to install the fans directly on the house siding without framing. The installation instructions were in the box with the fans. The instructions very clearly say that the fans need to be mounted with framing. The information for these fans also say, Warranties do not apply to products which are misused, abused, altered, improperly installed or subject to negligence. This installation information is available on line at J&D Manufacturer ES 12 Shutter Fan and click on Documents. The siding on my manufactured has a weather proof outside coating over 5/8 inch particle board. This is the old type particle board that is just pressed sawdust. Fans vibrate a little and these fans weight 18 lbs and they are mounted about 13 feet above ground level with only four screws in just 5/8 inch particle board. With use, they will detach from the house. I need to have these fans reinstalled correctly with framing. Coast Salish needs to reinstall these fans or adjust the payment so I can hire another business to pay for this re work.Business Response

This client has no build experience, electrical or mechanical. These Fan are installed above manufactures specification and weather proofed by a trades men of 41 years and I saw the first one install the client is speculating what has done. The ***** side is supported by 2x3 on 16 in centers. The four manufacturers s**** locations has wood screws fastened deep into the ***** stud on either side. These will be the last things in place when the house falls down some day. This fans a caulk and sealed. If any one what to the see her install we have the pictures to prove this install is above trade practice. Which is more that the client will pay for. When a client stays these things, they are trying to not pay the bill. We offered to have the city inspector come out but the client has side stepped this process. We are submitting this client to the small claims court. We are a senior and tribal owner company and we have never been hard on this client by the judge will assigned to this case. We gave 3 options to resolve this clients actions. The client just files false and misleading statements. We will post the judges and city inspectors findings when completed to this file. The Client has not responded to many emails, invoices or messages made by our staff. If you have any question please call our office or the BBB.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: Most or all of what this business, Coast Salish, is saying is not true. There are no photos and if there were it would just show shutter fans mounted to siding. I have checked this out myself and had another person check it out. One of the four screws are in wood - the other three screws are in particle board siding. The fans' flanges aren't wide enough to reach existing studs. Caulking won't hold those fans in place. The electrician was an older and experienced but his helper was early twenties I'm guessing but they were not supplied with framing material. There is no city inspector because I live in the county. No one has contacted me about any of this except the business owner and his wife on email and the emails were just threats rather than solutions. The business hasn't offer to fix the problem so I will have to hire someone to do it. I want the business to refund me $500. so I can get this work done.Customer Answer

Coast Salish is an electrical contractor but they advertise remodeling on their website. Theres a skilled labor shortage and remodeling requires framing and finish carpenters, drywall guys, ventilation specialists, roofers, plumbers, etc. Coast Salish has competent electricians and only entry level helpers. They have implied that myself and others have made up poor workmanship issues to avoid paying their bill. Im suggesting that their customers question their final bill because of poor workmanship. My situation is different because in February I put half down on a much bigger project. Early on I canceled the interior work because Coast Salish doesnt have the employees to do it and I experienced bullying and intimidation because of that.. Im asking for a $500. refund to stabilize the shutter fans that were installed directly on particle board siding without framing. Im also suggesting that Coast Salish take remodeling off their website. My message to BBB is that when the BBB A+ rating is on the website of a business, it implies that the business can actually do the work they are are advertising on the website. Also, I've experienced much more bullying and intimidation from the owners of Coast Salish than I've mentioned in my three complaints against. Coast Salish. *******************************************
