Representative for BVM scheduled an personal appointment with me to show me their advertising programs. I said I would think about it and let her know. The next day on her follow up with me said her advisor would offer me a discount and waive her appointment fee!!!??? I was not aware that our meeting was going to cost me to get her to pitch me on Best Version Media!Business Response

I am filing this complaint over the contract that was signed in 11/23 between my business and Best Version Media. The pitch was that they could help with branding to a large new development in our area. The salesman boasted about doubling advertising by adding online ads. Three of us from the store were present. I told him repeatedly that we were a brand-new business and couldn't afford this advertising. We only signed because he made a promise that we could cancel. No physical contract was present to state otherwise. BVM states that no such promises were made. Three of us heard what was promised. From the other complaints, it is clear it is a repeated behavior with the BVM salespeople. I noticed in January that the digital impressions BVM emailed monthly did not add up to what I saw on ******** and ****** analytics. I thought I was reading it wrong, so I let two more months pass. None of the numbers that were sent corresponded to anything that was happening online. I emailed BVM requesting the analytic data. They provided me a clipped copy of ****** analytics which was missing information like the **** Turns out my CTR was *****%. I was literally paying for nothing. I emailed them my complaints and they told me that they were not obligated to meet any standard. Their contract states that no performance standards are promised and there is no recourse or cancellation for any reason. Even if they fail to provide services paid for. I then asked to see data for my mailing. I was told that they had no ability to send me that information. All they sent me was a receipt and # of magazines mailed each month. I contacted **** to see if that was true. It is not. BVM can provide it but refuse to. BVM uses deceptive sales practices to entrap businesses into long-term contracts, they prey on new businesses by knowingly making promises that go against the contract and are not transparent with how they present the contract to a business. No physical contract was left to review.Business Response

Beware of this company, they seek out new businesses to take advantage of locking you in a contract that doesnt do anything but hold you to make your payment. They are like slick haired fast talking car salesman. They wont your money and dont care if you experience negative results. 1 year in and $7000+ in ad cost with only $800 ROI. Messaged them about this not being a good fit any longer and their response is you have 3 year contract. They dont care if they are hurting your business. When their biggest sales pitch is how they are going to bring you new customers. Its not about spending money for advertising because I spend 1000s a month on ******* Its about seeing a return for it. If I can turn 1k in to 10k its a no brainer to keep doing that. If I spend 7k and only see $800 thats not gonna work for any business. A decent company would work with you and contract or no, not demand you keep advertising with them. Its like being held hostage with this company. After further investigation into this company its clear Im not alone in these feelings. Do your research before signing any contracts. By their terms if they print your ad they have meet 100% of their obligations. While I understand that they make no promises my phone rings considerations should be taken into account if after reasonable time has past that their customer needs to make a change to the agreement or stop entirely if it was working and I wanted to spend more they would be all over it. Why not in reverse? If I offered a bad service word would spread and Id have to make a change or close the doors. Your customers are your advisers and if they are not happy you need to look into it and do whats right.Business Response

Branding campaigns require a consistent and repetitive effort to become successful. Unlike direct-response advertising tools, we offer our clients an excellent opportunity to build brand awareness and loyalty over time by reaching an ideal local audience. Our local reps do not guarantee how many new customers will walk through the door or how many times the phone will ring. We have honored our side of the agreement and look forward to working with our client for the remainder of the agreement that was signed.Initial Complaint

Advertising on the ********************** with Best Version Media has done nothing but put our small business in debt. We are spending approximately $1800 every month for their services. After the first 6 months of our 1-year contract and after paying BVM $9,990.20, our business has not received one call or lead. I have reached out to other businesses that advertise on Carmel ****** and they all agree that the BVM reps pushed the promise of a big return but in actuality, they have not received a single lead. This financial loss with no big return like the reps pushed, has been detrimental to our small business. We had to let go of our office in ******** because of the false promises made by **** ************ are also concerned about the validity of the magazine that BVM proposes they send out. We have spoken to many customers in the ****** area who have not heard of Carmel ****** nor do they receive the magazine in their mail. Weve reached out to BVM client services and they were no help when we expressed our concerns over the reps being dishonest about the amount of customers the magazine should reach. They merely asked for proof the reps ********* certain numbers, when its clear from BVMs reviews and other clients, that they oversell and lie about advertising numbers. It is disheartening to work with BVM who dont seem to care about their clients or the quality of their advertising, but only care about the clients money. I would like to cancel this contractual agreement, since this advertisement has brought in no revenue and is not financially possible for our company to afford. Best Version Media preys on small businesses, over-promises expectations and then leaves those same small businesses with an agreement they cant cancel and an empty wallet. This company is a scam and needs to stop taking advantage of small businesses. They are holding back businesses like ours from growing.Business Response

I am filing this complaint because i entered into an agreement with the company on 8/2023. I was promised the magazine was more branding andthe digital ads would help also. There have been times my publisher promised to stop by and didn't. Also she brought magazines by. I have had to downsize on a lot to afford the service and I am looking to end my contract as soon as possible. They send me impressions for my digital ads but my ****** ad account is frozen and also my ******** ad account has not been verified so I am wondering where the impressions come from. I also do not like that I was instructed to sign a 3 year contract. I am having some health issues also and can not afford to keep paying the monthly cost. For me, I think the best resolution is to cancel the contract and continue a relationship but not as an expert. I was paying $900 per month and now down to $600 but that still too much for my small business to continue to afford, especially with me having health issues. Another resolution could be to at least cut the digital all together as I am not seeing any benefit at this time and ending my contract totally after this first year ends. I am just not happy with the service at this time and my circumstances have changed with my health.Business Response

We're disappointed to hear about our client's experience. Our monthly impressions report shows digital advertising clients how many eyes are on their ads each month. Our team is working with our client to reach a fair solution to this situation. We hope to continue working with them once a solution is agreed upon.Initial Complaint

On September 9th, 2022, I entered into a signed agreement for advertising services for my small painting business. I am small painting company that was new when this opportunity was presented to me. Being I was new I was told that BVM would help generate leads and would help my company grow. Approximately 1 year later BVM has failed to provide any leads for my business. I currently can not afford to pay any longer because I have no business was coming in. There is no and there is no way to cancel the contract. The rep I was dealing with was very persuasive and forceful with signing a long term contract and insisted I needed to sign in the spot. Had I had more time I would have researched the company and not have signed an agreement.Being a marketing expense with zero leads this has been crippling to my business. Without getting leads, and no way to get out of this contract Im close to losing my business. All I want to resolve the issue is to be released form the contract with BVM.Business Response

We're disappointed to hear about our client's experience. Our branding solutions are designed to build recognition and loyalty over time, and our local reps are trained not to promise how many customers will walk through the door. Our team has contacted our client in an attempt to reach a fair resolution, but we have not heard back. We look forward to resolving this matter in the near future.Customer Answer

I went to sign up with this company but came across life situations like a divorce and wasnt able to pay for the services. I went bankrupt and instead of showing empathy the continue charging me for a service Im not getting and 3 thousand in in the hole for some service I cant afford and a service Im not getting . They are bullying me into paying when I cant and continue to charge even tho I say Im claiming bankruptcy and because they wont stop calling me and contacting me they are now in violations of my rights of protection under the bankruptcy filing. This is a horrible company to work with they dont care about the people like they claim. They only want your money whether you can pay or notBusiness Response

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction and concerns regarding the advertising services provided by Best Version Media. As a small business owner in the roofing industry, I entered into a contract with your company with the expectation of exclusive advertising support in my local area, as was discussed and agreed upon initially.Unfortunately, my experience has not met the expectations set by your sales representatives. Contrary to the assurances given, it has come to my attention that Best Version Media has been actively pursuing and publishing advertisements from multiple competitors within the same regional market, directly contrary to the exclusivity promised. This approach not only diminishes the value of my investment but also misleads us about the nature of the services offered. Moreover, the contract structure, which includes long-term commitments and automatic payments, does not provide any flexibility to reassess or cancel the services should they prove unsatisfactory. This lack of consideration and transparency is concerning and has put us at a disadvantage, both financially and strategically.Given these issues, I am requesting an immediate review of our contract and the business practices related to the service commitments and cancellation policies. I believe a reassessment of the contract terms is warranted, which should include provisions for service termination.I trust that Best Version Media values its clients and will address these concerns promptly to rectify the situation. Thank you for your attention to this matter.Business Response

Our goal is to provide an exceptional advertising experience for all of our clients. The Expert Contributor position is a premiere advertising opportunity where businesses use their industry knowledge to write articles for their local magazine. We only offer this to one sponsor from each industry. With that said, after hearing all of our advertising offerings presented by our local rep, our client did not agree to become an Expert Contributor. Instead, they chose a different ad space in the publication that does not offer industry exclusivity. We hope to continue working with our client to help them reach an ideal local audience every month.

Contract was not presented to review and I was told the signature was to run my card. I was not given the opportunity to review the contract and was pressured into signing up. I have tried to reach out to get this contract cancelled since the publication is not even in print and no services have been rendered to me yet and since the contract term starts when the publication goes to print, this would mean the contract is not yet in effect. The representative that contacted me and pressured me into this did so under the proposed name of the publication and not Best Version Media, which made any research in this company impossible. If I had been given the actual name of the company trying to conduct business with me, I would have seen all of the horrible business practices they are engaged in and horrible reviews and would never have engaged in business with them. These are deceptive tactics they are using.Business Response

Consumer Complaint Against ************ Media: I am the real estate expert contributor to ************ Media in a local magazine, where I pay $1,200 monthly for exclusive advertising rights on the real estate page. Additionally, a portion of the advertisement features my husband, a mortgage lender. Despite assurances from the two independent sales contractorswhom I trusted as friends and familythat other featured families could share their occupation but not advertise, ************ Media has breached this agreement. We are now in the ninth month of the contract with no referrals received. Furthermore, a recent issue featured a non-neighborhood family prominently displaying real estate signage, directly contradicting what was agreed upon. Despite my efforts over the past month to terminate the contract due to this breach, the company has only offered release conditional upon finding a replacement, which has not yet occurred. Moreover, I have not received approval proofs for the June advertisement, which typically arrive a week prior, suggesting the possibility of an unauthorized rerun of last month's ad for which I did not give approval. Potential expert contributors should be wary: ************ Media has demonstrated a practice of featuring competing professionals who are allowed to advertise similar services at no cost, undermining paid agreements and marketed exclusivity. This situation not only represents a breach of trust but also a breach of contractual terms as conveyed by their own sales representatives. I urge ************ Media to address this issue promptly and uphold their commitments to their clients.Business Response

Our goal is to provide an excellent experience for all of our clients. In this situation, we have honored our side of the signed agreement. The feature family mentioned by our client did not promote or advertise any business in the magazine. Additionally, the ad proof for **** has not yet be finalized, so there have been no unauthorized advertisements printed in the publication. Our local team is working to find a fair solution, and in the meantime, we look forward to working with our client to advertise their business each month.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Certainly! Here's a formalized draft of your response:
---
Subject: Formal Objection to Content Classification and Suspension of Payments
To Whom It May ************************** am writing to formally address my concerns regarding the content featured in your recent publication which involves a real estate agent prominently displaying professional signage and engaging in activities that distinctly resemble advertising. Despite the ostensibly editorial nature of the coverage, several elements compel me to classify this as promotional material:
1. The agent is photographed holding a "For Sale" sign, with an additional "Coming Soon" sign visible in the background.
2. The feature article explicitly mentions her profession as a real estate agent.
3. Subsequent to the publication, the agent created a social media reel where she acknowledged being selected by one of your independent contractors, noted her non-residency in the neighborhood featured, and extended thanks to your magazine. This content was shared from her professional real estate page and included a tag to your magazines Instagram page. (Video is too large to load)
These actions collectively suggest the content serves more as an advertisement for her services rather than as neutral editorial content. This perception is further enforced by the agent's use of professional media channels to amplify her real estate business in direct connection with your publication.
Given these circumstances, I must reject your previous response and inform you that I will withhold any further payments pending a satisfactory resolution of this issue. I am simply requesting that my contract be terminated by April 30, 2024 providing you ample time to find a replacement. I am not asking for any payback. This situation has not united neighbors yet divided and destroyed friends and family.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,
