An inspection was done on our fire extinguisher a few weeks after moving my office into a new building. Cintas was contracted with the previous business and apparently they never canceled that service. The inspector did not communicate that there would be a fee for our inspection. We did let the inspector in because we were having numerous inspections for the remodel and occupancy permit and thought this inspector was related to that. He was here for less than a minute and did not leave any information about the inspection. They eventually sent me an invoice via email after they must have looked up my information online, but the invoice has the old businesses information on it including name, account number, etc. I have emailed numerous people from the company about how they were not authorized to do an inspection for my "new business" but they claim since we let them in our door it is our fault. They refuse to acknowledge that they did anything wrong. I have asked them to not charge us for the inspection and to send me information on contracting with them in the future and they refuse to do either of those things. I will no longer work with them in the future. They did offer to reduce the charge to around $90 but I just don't believe in paying for something that I was tricked into getting. I just can't believe they would take advantage of a new business like this. I did save all the email communications as well. They are saying they are taking me to small claims court. I have always been a responsible business owner but I just don't feel this bill is justified.

    Hello,

Our technician showed up on site as this address is a customer of ours. We do not always know when businesses change hands, unless that is communicated to us - in this case, it was not. We did not receive a cancellation from the old business nor a notice of ownership change. The tech introduced himself before starting service and gained approval from her to do the work.  He also reviewed the work completed after the service, at which time the *** from this office signed for the work completed. As a company, we attempted to do what is right and work with ****** on the invoice. We sent the technician back to meet with her and review the work that was done on her site.  She would have had to hire someone to complete this service anyway, otherwise her life safety equipment would not have been code-compliant. The technician felt like the meeting went well and she understood what the charges were for.  Next, the Service Manager reached out and offered a discounted rate.  ****** refused.  As the General Manager, I then corresponded with ****** over email and offered her a discount as well.  I explained to her that, if her employees are not able to authorize work to be done, that is their responsibility to know and not sign for the service.  Despite that, we were still willing to discount our services to her in an attempt to compromise.  She did not respond to my attempt to communicate with her.  In summary, it is ******** responsibility to control which services are completed in her building and communicate with us accordingly.  On our end, we did our best to work something out that was fair to both parties.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Thank you for your response and explanation but I never had a conversation with the technician on a return visit.  That did not happen.  I was never informed that this was for a paid inspection when the inspector came through.  If someone is coming in for a paid service, that should be communicated clearly and this was not done.  As I mentioned we had been getting inspections done because it was a new remodel and business move in.  It is not my responsibility to know what the previous business authorized for services.  The technician did not seem to understand we were a new business as none of my information was correct on the invoice and it was all written under the previous business.

    Regards,

    Hello,

It is the employee's or owner's responsibility understand services being provided.  We have authorization for work completed based on the signed invoice.  We are still happy to honor the discounts offered by myself or my Service Manager.  This is the best I can do.  ************ are not free and you are now code-compliant for the next year, which you would have had to do anyway.  I appreciate the feedback and we will continue to make sure we are getting approval from employees on site before doing work.  Thank you!

I will pay the discounted fee, but wish to be taken off your inspection list.  I will find another company to do it.
