Complaint Against: Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin
Issue: Deceptive billing and lack of cost transparency
      Amount in dispute: $1,175
I was referred for physical therapy due to severe shoulder pain. When Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin called to schedule, I clearly stated that I was extremely concerned about cost and would not proceed unless I knew what I’d owe. The scheduler assured me that insurance usually covered everything, and that if there were any charges, I’d be notified before my appointment. She also strongly encouraged me to book six sessions up front. I agreed only because I was promised advance notice of any costs.
At the first appointment, I was guided through basic stretching. I asked again about cost and was told the billing person wasn’t in but always followed up with patients if there were charges. I brought this up again at every single session and was repeatedly told I would have heard by now if anything wasn’t covered.
Weeks later, I received a bill for $525. I was shocked and upset. I paid it to avoid collections. Then I received another bill for $650. Turns out my insurance only covered 30% of the $350 per session.
I feel misled and taken advantage of. I repeatedly asked for cost details, was assured I'd be informed, and made my decision based on that. These were not complex sessions — just stretching — and I never would have agreed had I known the real cost.
I’m requesting a partial refund and accountability for their misleading and unprofessional communication.
