      I went in for an eye exam on 11/23/24 and was told that the out of pocket price (with no insurance) would be $140 for my visit. I knew that it would not be covered by insurance because it was a visit that was less than a year from my previous visit. The person behind the counter told me that they could bill insurance and it would save me $10, and so I told them "OK let's do that" and I paid $132.43. I was given a 10% discount for paying that day.

      Now it is 1/30/25, and I got a bill for an additional $60 because the insurance didn't cover it because I had not yet my deductible. I was willing to pay $140 for the out of pocket costs (I'm assuming OOP prices cannot include insurance). Now I am told that the cost is $213.86 and that I owe an additional $60.

      I talked with the supervisor "Hannah" to get things cleared up. As an initial matter, Hannah was unbelievably rude to me. So much so that I decided to record the conversation. I have a recording of the conversation (which she became much nicer once the recording notice was send out). But her rudeness is irrelevant to my issue. I told her that either the person at the counter on 11/23 did not tell me the correct amount or I did not explain that I would be charged an additional $60 if insurance did not cover the bill.

      I am particularly frustrated because I thought that if I paid the OOP price (with no involvement with insurance) this would be $140. Now I am getting charged and addition $60, that I did not think I would get charged.

      Spectrum Optical reached out to me to apologize for any confusion they may have caused. But they did not adjust the bill. I do not believe this issue was resolved, however, I also do not believe they will move forward to adjust my bill.  I would like to have this be reflected in their BBB profile that this issue was not resolved and that they did not adjust the bill, even though they gave me an incorrect estimate.
