Received an estimate to do a basement ****. Decided I couldnt afford to get them to paint. Said things would be finished to paint grade, they werent. Had complaints about the finishings they said they are not issues and wont fix them.

I asked numerous times for certain parts of the basement to be repaired as the drywall work is subpar, he blamed it on my painting and said that a painter would do those repairs. I had two painters in saying that the way things were left were incomplete and would cost the amount submitted to repair. I want this amount reimbursed to me.

Total amount was $******** I need $******* to complete the renos properly but am willing to accept $******* to at least cover the discrepancies that they say are my fault for not choosing them to finish the project when they knew from the beginning I couldnt afford it.

    Business Response

    Date: 15/08/2024

The basement development was left for the client to paint with a Stage IV drywall/ mudding result, as stated in the contract.

The client assumed responsibility for the painting work, which should include minor drywall touch *** as needed after minor defects present themselves when a first coat of paint is applied. In addition, the client delivered a poor quality paint job with runs caused by applying too much paint with poor quality painting tools, no backrolling and a general lack of skill. Until recently, the client has refused to accept any responsibility for the poor outcome of the painting work, and instead has blamed our group for the poor outcome. Infact, the minor drywall mudding issues are very small, localized to a few small areas of the basement development, and should have been easily corrected by a professional painter. Recently the client conceded in a communication to us that "you are right and Im wrong", so I'm a confused about why a complaint was lodged.

The baseboard and casing was professionally installed, mitre joints filled, sanded and received a second fill where needed. A professional painter is responsible for final sanding and final filling of nail holes on baseboard and casing. We visited the home yesterday, August **, 2024 to rectify a few other small issues that fall within our responsibility under our warranty program.  We inspected the baseboard and casing and confirmed that we did a great and very detailed job of installing it.

This complaint is unreasonable and I demand that it be deleted from our BBB profile. Considering the client's admission of fault on these issues, this complaint is grounds for libel.

    Customer Answer

As submitted in my claim I have a receipt from a painter who states that although the paint job is not ideal there is a lot of areas where he said the work was sub par for paint completion. I received a full estimate to prep and repaint the basement and am only asking for reimbursement of the prep that was not completed properly. The comment youre right and Im wrong was said tongue in cheek as I have felt intimidated after stating my disappointment and no longer wanted to go back and forth. I informed him I may take this to the bbb and/or small claims court and was informed that was my right. Now to be threatened with libel when I just want the ******* to fix the issue by someone elses as I will not have them back in my home seems to be threatening instead of trying to resolve.
