On June 20, 2022, BBB reached out to Canadian Moving Systems Inc. to discuss concerns regarding recent inquiries, complaints, and customer reviews. BBB requested additional information on their location, including any locations for storage, as well as confirmation of any licensing. BBB also requested clarification on how quotes are provided, as well their policies regarding insurance and liability coverage, and how they are disclosed to customers. BBB did request information on Canadian Moving Systems affiliation with other movers on long-distance moves and the associated liabilities using third party movers.
BBB received a response on July 6, 2022 from CMS. CMS only has a Calgary office that is open to clients, and is currently listed on this profile. They do not have any other locations, and storage is offered through their affiliates across Canada. Quotes are provided based on the inventory list that is submitted.
CMS confirmed that they have no direct affiliation with other movers, but may use any other long distance carrier to accomodate clients' needs (such as in the case of transporting vehicles). If a third party is going to be used for part of the service, the customer would be contacted in advance if needed.
CMS offers Standard (Basic) Liability coverage at 60 cents per pound, per article which is built into the quote (note, there is a deductible). Upgraded and additional coverage is available at request through CMS. Customers can also obtain their own third party coverage, and can check with their insurance provider. BBB encourages consumers ensure that they are fully covered prior to their move.
