Transactions between May 17 and July 28, 2022 for replacement of a shed floor/gate quote $5000. Once on-site, additional work for a fence/retaining wall was agreed for additional $9000. Deconstruction start June 2, the contractor advised fencing chosen was being shipped from the US to arrive in 2 weeks. By June 5 $10,300 had already been paid but there was no substantial materials on site. June rain delayed project, work recommenced about June 21, and fencing was now at customs, delivery unknown. While retaining wall was under construction contractor informed he recalculated and the entire project cost was now $16,000, I made full payment. The fencing material was still at the border, delivery unknown. On July 7, the contractor told me the fencing supply company was sending a truck to the border to pick up some of the fencing materials as a commercial project was putting pressure on them for materials and some of my materials were coming too, the remaining fencing to come at a later date. However, the deal was I was to pay the fencing supply company $1250 to cover transport costs, my contractor said he would split cost with me and I paid him a further $600, total now paid $16,600. Contractor was to arrive July 14 to install fencing however he had truck issues that continued until July 25 when I terminated our agreement and asked for a refund of $11,000, $5600 he was to keep to cover his expenses. He responded on July 28 advising he lied about the fencing material fiasco and would send me his invoice in a couple of days for the work he had done and would repay me the balance but he needed time to repay. I have followed up with him 3 times since then but I have not received any invoice nor response. What convinced me to terminate the agreement was when I phoned the fencing supply company about the border delay, they advised no such issue/event. Actually what was required for my project was on a pallet awaiting pickup but was not being released until paid for.
