Wednesday, October 18, when I came home from volunteering, I noticed Mainstreet had stuck a sheet of paper under my door. The sheet details a list of charges for mostly nuisance situations. However there are charges for putting new batteries in the e-lock during regular hours, seventy dollars. After hours putting new batteries in e-lock one hundred fifty dollars. It is not my lock it is tier's. Just like smoke detectors are their responsibility. I did not want e-lock but was told either take it or keep lock I did not feel was secure. I am not their staff. Lock maintenance is not my responsibility. I have not been trained as to how to change batteries nor do I expect to have to pay for them. Also charge for heat complaint after hours is one hundred fifty dollars, if someone other than me decides heat is normal. I used to have an handle on steam control in my apartment. Mainstreet removed it. Why am I denied ability to control my heat?. I want that handle back!

Mainstreet Equity is a property management company in Calgary Alberta. They are responsible for renting out an astonishing number of the available apartments. It's currently a housing crisis in this city and this company has been raising the cost of rents to take advantage at every turn. Fair to be greedy as the law permits it however it is not physically possible to get ahold of this company. I have tried calling, texting and emailing and all I have ever had as a response was an automatic message asking me for information. I have responded accordingly and then, just nothing more from them. Any number you call will not reach a person and messages are simply ignored. Seeing the desperate situation in this city, and knowing that this level of irresponsibility is in control of whether people have housing or not is truly frightening. I found a place through other means but cannot help imagining less fortunate people who are relying on this company for a basic need and just being ignored!! This company has NO RIGHT to take over all of these rental units and then just sit on them and ignore people. Incomprehensible is the obviously nonchalant attitude with zero responsibility taken. I am livid and mortified. These people use public platforms like kijiji, taking up multiple pages (like ten pages!!) of the community rentals area, since they are advantage takers and unwilling to use proper business advertising, just gutting the rental market with zero accountability!!

i have paid my rent on time since 2019 including during covid, while i was on EI, and while receiving sask income assistance.

i am barely making ends meet and have little money left over from rent, utilities, food, phone bill, car payment, and other monthly bills.

the landlord says i owe money for utilities when the city of sask erroneously closed my utility account and billed the property company. the property company is claiming 6 to 7 months' worth of utilities which i have repeatedly asked for verification for in the form of original bills from the city of saskatoon.

for further context, this property company has attempted to charge me $400 for a plumber that was needed as a result of a flood above my unit, and has attempted to bill me $46.00 without an explanation that i had to question repeatedly for 4 years before they removed it.

i have zero reason to trust them and as such have requested confirmation from the city of sask in the form of accessing the billing history for the unit for the period of time which the landlord is claiming, which the city wont give because of "privacy issues".

i have been paying bit by bit as i said im working, but poor and have to be careful with my limited finances. ive sent money toward the bill which was originally approximately $444 and is now down to $179.

i advised them that i can pay $22.00 on my next pay day and in response they issued an eviction notice saying i had to pay the full amount in 15 days or become homeless.

is this legal? what are my options for addressing this? if i am evicted i will be living on the street as i cannot afford to move into another place.

ive paid my rent and made good faith payments toward their claimed amount, how can they evict me?

Leased an apartment through Mainstreet Equity Corp company, paid a deposit and the first month's rent. Agreed on move-in date of July 8th at 10 am. Went to find the apartment is not ready and still being renovated. I was coming with all my furniture in 10 hours driving distance from Winnipeg to Saskatoon. Moven in date was agreed on 2 weeks before and I was even told I can move in earlier. Unit address is **** **** ********* *** *********

Our original transaction was May 16, 2023 via email as to receive information in regards to pricing and availability. My daughter phoned Mainstreet on the 17 of May and was told to phone after the 31st to see what was available.
My daughter phoned back on the 1st of June, and made a showing appointment for the 2nd at ********** **** *********. After the viewing, we applied for a lease. At that time we had to wait until we received proof of income, as it takes a few days after direct deposit to send statement of income. On the 9 of June my daughter phoned the agent to see if a decision was made yet. He informed her that he didn't receive anything from my daughter and I and to resend the email and an application fee to reserve the unit. The agent said if we were not approved that the deposit would be refunded within 3 business days. As of today's date, June 28 we have not received any correspondence from the agent or the company.
If you read the Google reviews for Mainstreet Equity Group, you will see that this is not an isolated incident as many people have voiced the same issue.

On February 10th 2023 I contacted mainstreet about my fridge not working properly, I was told someone would be contacting me about fixing it so I waited. 11 days go by without and contact what so ever. On February 21st 2023 I contacted my building manager to see what was the plan for it and why no one has responded. At that point he told me that someone had go in and fixed it that morning. I felt violated, someone I didn't know or didn't have any idea that a random person was just let into my personal space. I am currently trying to get out of my lease without have to pay a lease brake fee on the grounds that they broke my lease. As of the date of this it's been 6 days of the apartment manager ignoring me, his boss ignoring me, the main office here ignoring me, and the head office in Calgary ignoring me. I have left several messages with all three.

Repeated noise issues with tenants in unit 26. building security and police called by me numerous times in the last month and previous months. When I try to get in touch with building manager her or she are unreasonable. And when they do finally reply he says I'll put a warning on their door. Completely ineffective and the tenants don't care and the noise issues continue. When I call main office the receptionist behaves unprofessionally and inappropriately and is basically uncooperative. Etc. The building manager said he doesn't have enough evidence to evict the tenants. I advised him to obtain the police report and security report and to talk to neighbors in the building. On Saturday September 25 there was another disruption by tenants in unit 26 at 3am . I called security and police. Etc.
There's a lot more to this but the space to continue is not sufficient. I can add more upon request.
