Service Alberta vs Canadian Choice Windows & Doors

The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.


On or about May 31, 2021, a Director's order was imposed on Canadian Choice Windows and Doors (Edmonton) Inc. to ensure that all direct sales contracts include the terms required by the Consumer Protection Act.


Service Alberta  investigated allegations related to breaches of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA)
and found evidence that:
1. Canadian Choice Windows and Doors (Edmonton) Inc.



  • did have a licence to act as a pre-paid
    contractor in September 2019. 

  • Any supplier entering into a prepaid contract with a consumer must do so by way of a contract
    that is compliant with the requirements of s. 10(2) of the Prepaid Contracting Business Licensing
    Regulation and s.35 of the CPA.

  • The contracts used by Canadian Choice Windows and Doors (Edmonton) Inc. did not conform to
    the requirements for Direct Sales contracts, contrary to section 35 of the CPA.


Canadian Choice Windows and Doors (Edmonton) Inc., and any employee, representative, agent or
associate of Canadian Choice Windows and Doors (Edmonton) Inc. must immediately: ensure that all direct sales contracts include the terms required by the Consumer Protection
Act.


In 2022, Canadian Choice Windows & Doors was fined in the amount of $3,000.00 and was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $5,250.00.
