On August 01, 2024 I attended the Canadian Tire at *********** to purchase four summer tires for a 2018 ***** Civic. I have always purchased my tires at Canadian Tire for the past 16 years and know that they offer free installation on tires purchased there. Just before paying, I noticed an installation charge of approx. $16 per tire. I explained to the worker, ***** that I have always bought tires at ** in order and know they offer free installation. I even showed ***** a brochure in the store they had offering free installation. ***** was told my father has worked at Canadian Tire for 21 years in **************, ** as a mechanic. ***** told us to take the tires there then because they do not offer free installation. ***** said, take your tires and leave and threatened to call police. We called corporate Canadian Tire who confirmed they offer free installation. ***** and supervisor, ***** then begrudgingly agreed they were wrong and honoured the free installation. This reminded me that I bought my wife new tires 2 months ago. I looked at the receipt and noticed we have been charged for the installation. I am speaking with the store manager in the near future to rectify this. My concern is this Canadian Tire has been overcharging customers despite the advertisement of free installation. I have been trying to make this well known within my community however I believe this store is doing a disservice to customers.

This response is in regard to the "tire installation" complaint by ****************************************.  This matter is also going to be reviewed for clarification with **************************** on Monday Aug 12, 2024 at the ******************* of Canadian Tire ******************

The customer was informed that "installation "of Canadian Tire purchased tires is free of charge.  That has always been the case for any Canadian Tire purchased tires from all locations.  Installation is the process, for clarification, when the tire purchased is mounted on a wheel rim and then installed on the vehicle and wheel bolts fastened to hold the mounted tire in place.

The is a charge however , for balancing of the tire mounted on the wheel rim (prior to installation on the vehicle). This charge is indicated on the work order as "new tire balancing". Most tires and wheel rims are not perfectly round requiring balancing to prevent tire chatter or shimmy at highway speed resonant frequencies. To prevent premature tire wear and unstable drivability it is highly recommended that balancing of new tire be performed. Customer declining the "tire/wheel balancing charge *** void the "tire warranty" .

I hope this clarifies the charge cost indicated for new tire installation.
