***** ****, owner of Crispy Heating and Cooling Ltd., was referred to me by a friend. I contacted him in September 2022 asking if he could install a gas fireplace in my basement. He replied that he definitely could. He came to my house to look at the job and I showed him the model of fireplace and accessories that I wanted. He left and emailed me the next day with his price for the fireplace, accessories, gas permit and line, and install. I agreed to his price and he advised that he collects a 25% deposit, at which point he would buy the fireplace and bring it to my house, so I e-transferred him a deposit of $1871.36. He attended my house 3 times in October to remove the existing woodburning fireplace and run the gas line, but did not deliver the fireplace. Nonetheless, he told me numerous times that he had the fireplace on hold with the supplier and would be picking it up. I visited the supplier and they advised that they had never heard if him and they did not have a fireplace on hold. ***** cut holes in my walls to run the gas line and said he had it completed, and the inspector would be visiting to check it, then he could attach fittings and connect it to the main line. I contacted Strathcona County and was told that he didn't pull a permit. I later discovered that he had not run the line all the way through the wall, but had only put small pieces of pipe in the wall at either end with nothing in between. ***** later agreed to deliver the fireplace to my house, but on the day of delivery he emailed me to say that the accessories (all of which were included in his original price) were going to cost an extra $3000. Currently I have a hole in the wall where the old fireplace was, holes in my wall, and no gas line. I have requested for my deposit to be refunded numerous times, however ***** is not answering phone calls, texts, or emails.
