On the 25th of June, 2024, Fair brothers auction had a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Esprit up for auction. They had described the car as "parts or project". I bought the car with plans to restore it.I recently went down to the registration office to see if it still had an active alberta title, or if it would need an inspection to be registered. I was then informed that the car was deemed unsafe for the road in ****************, the last time it was registered. This means in order to register the vehicle again, it would require a Salvage inspection. Once a vehicle has a salvage inspection, it will be given a Salvage title, which stays with the car for the remainder of its existence. The car is now not worth restoring.Under section 13(b) of the province of alberta traffic safety act, vehicle inspection regulation, A person shall not sell a motor vehicle that is a salvage motor vehicle unless, before the sale, the person provides the buyer with a written statement advising that the vehicle is a salvage motor vehicle for which there is no subsisting salvage motor vehicle inspection ************** law, they were not allowed to sell me the vehicle without disclosing the salvage title. They claim they were not aware, and they weren't hiding it because they provided the vin (which still doesn't get around them having to disclose in writing about the salvage title). The business refuses to refund me or work with me on any kind of resolution, and will not return my calls or emails now.I assumed they knew they legally had to disclose a salvage title, considering they sell cars this is knowledge they should have. For this reason I did not check the status of the vehicle myself, but once again, I should not have had to myself, this was their obligation. All I want is the 3400 dollars I paid for the vehicle including their fees, plus my uhaul trailer rental and fuel to travel 5 hours each way to get the car, i estimate around 4000 dollars in total.
