      The amount paid was $2750
      It was for a wedding venue, the camp is not suitable for adults, they advertise sleeping arrangements but the beds are all single bunkbeds for children, the cabins and wash houses all smell like urine, making it almost unbearable to be inside.
      We also were not advised to view it before making a 50% deposit to hold the date.
      I did try and contact the camp to see if we could get some of the deposit back but they are un willing to work with us.

      Hello,

       

      Apologies for just responding to this now. We did not receive the first notification as our contact information was outdated. We have since updated this.

       

      I have attached three email chains - one for the wedding booking, the second for the wedding cancellation. Please note that while ****** is correct in that she did not view the facility prior to booking, she was not advised one way or the other. It is highly uncommon for anyone to request to book a venue without touring it first. When she requested to come see it (after booking) she was granted appointment right away. The day of her visit was the end of our two month summer Camp season. Staff were just finishing cleaning after a full summer camp session. As such, the facility was already quite clean, though still in progress. In any case, at no time did ****** indicate on that visit that she was disatasified. One week later, she contaced us that her grandmother was ill and she would have to cancel her wedding. She was informed that as she had signed a non-refundable contract, she would not be eligible for any redund. Depsite not being contractually obligated, we informed ****** that we would allow her to transfer her deposit to another time. She requested to speak to the board (we are a non-profit charity governed by a volunteer board). She received a response (attached) that we would honor the deposit for a future date, but not offer a refund. 

      Her reason for wanting to cancel now seems to have changed. Again, at no time prior to the complaint to the *** did she indicate concern about bunk beds or facility cleanliness. We make no attempt to pretend that we are not a children's summer camp. That being said, we have had MANY adult rental groups since 1956, none of whom have complained about being unable to sleep on bunk beds. (These beds are clearly advertised and visible online). 

      We feel that given that she had not responded to our offer to move her dates, and given that she clearly understood that in signing the contract that she was committing to a non-refundable deposit, we have already resolved this complaint. Given the nature of her changing story, it seems likely that, for whatever reason, she changed her mind about the venue and is seeking to recoup losses to which she is not entitled.
