Milani's worker, *******, came to my home mid Aug to fix a hot water on demand unit made by Navien. The unit is 3 years old. His first visit he said a certain part needed to be ordered and replaced. I was billed $175 for the visit, fair enough. He returned the followed week, installed the part (not under warranty apparently because it is a 'moving part'). It did not work, but I was charged $175 for the visit and $100 for the part. He called Navien and they suggested replacing the main panel/board. They told him it was under warranty. Milani's parts ***** had difficulty obtaining the part on my behalf, so we were without hot water for 3 weeks. When it finally came, ******* installed it and it was fixed. He said he had to charge me for the board ($395.00) but that Milani would verify it was under warranty and reimburse me. Stupidly, I agreed to pay and now Milani will not reimburse the money. They say the unit was not registered and the parts are not under warranty despite the first ****** from Navien saying it was.Business Response
Date: 22/10/2024
Navien did decline the warranty request because the unit which Milani did not install was not registered, requiring Milani to purchase the part. After the part was installed the customer called Navien and they allowed them to register their unit, at this point the Milani parts department was able to apply for the warranty. When a warranty claim is made for a part they then send you the part at no charge, they do not send money or reimburse if the part was purchased already. Due to the fact the part had been purchased and installed already, Milani had to wait for the replacement part from Navien to arrive and then submit that new part to the supplier for reimbursement. Unfortunately this was a long process, however Milani needed to ensure they would receive the refund prior to refunding the customer.
The customer has been refunded.

************************ installed a heat pump for me in the garage. They failed to do the electrical load calculation before installation and the unit did not pass the city of ********* inspection. ******* is responsible for coming up with a solution or resolution to this problem but after repeated attempts, I have made to ask them to resolve this issue. They repeatedly fail to do so. I have talked to them many times, including the city to resolve this, but they Fail to get back in contact with me to adequately resolve this. As it is, this issue remains outstanding and noncompliant and quite possibly unsafe for my home and family. I dont understand why they are not more responsible and professional in their practice. Ive used them many times before with no problems, but this issue seems beyond their capability to resolve for some reason.Business Response

The calculation was done prior to the original install as a calculation submission is part of the permit application and would not have been possible to receive a permit and proceed with the install if it had not been submitted. The inspection was done 9 months after Milani completed the install and when the electrician went out to take a look at the citys concerns it was discovered that the customer has a Kiln. As there was no record of this prior to the install, the calculation had to be revised. With the revised calculation the customer needs to upgrade the homes electrical service to a 200 ************ Milani has given the customer a quote to do this.

I am rejecting this response because:****** claimed that they discovered that I had a killn only after they installed the heat pump. The kiln was in place at the time they installed the heat pump. Moreover, not only did I have the killn, but the amperage and sub panel clearly indicated the power load. This argument simply does not hold up as regardless whether I had a kilnl or not or had any other item, the power use was indicated on the panel and how much amperage it was consuming. ****** from my point of view simply didnt do their due diligence and in the end they are expecting me to pay thousands of dollars to address something that couldve been cleared up prior to their work.

I am disputing two charges on my credit card. I never authorized the payments. I never signed any invoices. In fact, I have never been presented with an invoice. Milani had my credit card number from an earlier job and they just charged my account without my approval. One of their managers who came to our house to investigate the problem (which prompted me to call Milani in the first place) promised to look into the billing issue for me, but no one from Milani has ever called back. Please see the attached document for more details.Business Response

We had Milani exchange our 17 year old gas heated hot water tank with an "on demand" tankless water heater in May 2023. It has not worked properly since then despite a number of attempts by Milani plumbers to fix the issues. The issues are: 1. Inconsistent hot water at taps and showers; 2. Noisy unit that can be heard throughout the house; 3. Long periods of repeated 'cycling' of the internal heater and pump despite no water being used ( noisy and waste of natural gas ); 4. 'Ticking sound' that can be heard from the heater unit even when it is not fired up. Even heard in upstairs bathroom in middle of the night; 5. The last few days there was heater noise and hot water at about 4pm. There was only hot water for ***** minutes, the second shower went cold after 1 minute; 6. When turning on hot water taps, this should start the heater ( on demand ) unit. It does only sometimes, and only lasts < 60 seconds - no hot water at taps.Clearly this setup is not functioning as designed.I would like Milani to take this installation out and replace it with what we had, that had worked well for 17 years ( Gas water heater with independent recirc timer / pump.I have sent a number of emails to Milani, the representative has apologized for the above issues, but now she is not responding to my emails and leaving a request with the receptionist for her to call ***** wife and I have been very patient. But this is now way too long that we have been putting up with the noisy unit and no consistent hot water.I asked another business ( Island Energy ) to come out and diagnose the problems.Their findings and recommendations:1. Checked over hot water system - recirc system installed using Rinnai circ in tankless heater.2. Rinnai system cycles on and off every 30 seconds.3. When pump is running water, it takes over 2+ minutes to reach the kitchen ( < 25 feet ).4. Shut off pump and ran system-no hot water to kitchen or powder room, More info, but run out of space!Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: They have corrected the hot water supply problem. But in doing so, the Kitchen tap now has reduced pressure ( about 1/2 of what it was ). All other taps have normal pressure / volume flow. Also, the persistent concern around a "loud clicking sound" coming from the 'In demand Unit' has not been rectified. It has been mentioned to ****** at Milani on numerous occasions. We can even hear it during the night in our bedroom upstairs and quite far from the unit. This clicking sound has a high frequency, and it stops the moment you switch on the water from any tap! After a short while ( few minutes ) of no water use, the sound returns. I have recordings of this noise, and have passed it on to Milani, as well as their plumbers could hear it when they have been in our house.
So, there are still 2 issues for Milani to resolve.
Sincerely,
***** *******Business Response

Low water pressure in a single faucet is isolated to that faucet and there is nothing with the hot water heater that would cause low water pressure in just one faucet especially considering it is low pressure when cold or hot water is being used.
For the noise we believe its either piping or venting raddling which is why the sound is carrying through the home, this can happen with the expanding and contracting due to the heat of the hot water. Milani has agreed to send someone to look at it.

Aug. 13/24 $412.83 Replace failed toilet seal Excessive charge Milani has offered to deduct $79. (Plus tax)Does not involve advertising Please see download for letter of complaint as sent to Milani Aug. 19thBusiness Response
Date: 10/09/2024
Customer reached out to ********************** on August 12th to book a service for a leak at the base of their toilet. Customer was advised charges are based on time and material with a minimum call out of $225.00 for the first hour and then $79.00 for each additional 30 minutes thereafter plus material used. Milani cannot agree to the customers request to pay only $200.00 for this service as that does not cover the call out rates quoted to the customer at the time of booking.
The service was successful and there is no further leak after Milanis technician replaced the wax seal, as a customer service gesture ********************** has offered to charge only for time on site and no travel to get parts. Based on GPS time on site is 1 hour 44 minutes which we have reduced to a 1 hour and 30 minute charge from the original 2 hour charge, plus cost of material. This would make the bill $329.90 which is a discount of $82.95.

We are rejecting this response because:
The plumber was off-site for 1 1/4 hrs. to source the seals, which should have been on the truck.
There is the further question of repair to the ceiling, unnecessarily caused by the Milani plumber.Sincerely,
***** And ****** *********Business Response
Date: 20/09/2024
As stated previously Milani is only charging for the time on site and as mentioned the tech spent 1 hour and 44 minutes at the customers address per GPS. The time on site does not include the travel off site to get the part, since Milani is not charging for the travel time it is irrelevant and should not be applied as a discount if it was not charged in the first place.
Regarding the hole in the ceiling below the bathroom, this is part of the plumber doing a sufficient investigation of determining the cause of the leak and getting eyes on it. The spot where the hole is was already water damaged from the leak happening in the ceiling.
Milanis offer stands to refund $82.95.

On July 24, 2024, Milani replaced a bath drain plug but did not properly seal it. Over the next 3 weeks, water leaked into the downstairs shower resulting in water damage and mould in the downstairs shower ceiling. Milani came back on August 20, 2024 and sealed the plug which stopped the leak but will not take responsibility over the water damage and mould. Customer signed a financing contract to pay the remaining balance over 12 months with 12 equal payments. The customer provided postdated cheques per the requirements of the contract. The 1st cheque bounced and Milani was advised by the bank the account is closed. At this point due to the fact Milani no longer has valid cheques and the first payment has been missed the contract for financing is no longer valid meaning the remaining balance of $6,273.95 is due in full.
Regarding the relocation of one of the Ductless Heads, this is a request by the customer and not necessary. ********************** agreed to re-locate it because of course Milani wants their customer to be happy with the install, however it was discussed with the customer during install about placement prior to it being installed. Customer wanted the unit installed above the fireplace, Milani had explained it should not go there as there is an exhaust vent on the other side and from the heat the unit can be damaged. Milani gave their recommended locations and the customer picked its current spot, they now want it moved to above the fireplace against recommendation. Milani has agreed to do this as a customer service gesture as long as the customer agrees to assume responsibility for the new location and potential risks.

Milani technician came to do measurements to provide a job quote for a new heat pump which included "Manufactures warranty supply, one year parts and labour warranty on all other materials and workmanship." A new unit was installed by Milani technician (*****) on December 5, 2023. The unit failed to function properly the firsttime we usedit. ***** came to inspect the unit on July 8, 2024. He believed the issue was due to the length of the drain line connecting the condensate pan drain hole to the wall outlet. He admitted that he recognized during the unit installation theposition of the drain hole and the length of the new drain line could pose a problem. To test his theory he disconnected the drain line from the outlet and let it dangle over the bathtub for direct drainage. This test did not fully work, the water still would not drain properly while the heat pump and the fan were running. I reached out to Milani's office to request a call from the technician to discuss. After following up multiple times over the past 2 weeks, the office claimed that ***** was too busy to return my calls. However I received a quote by email to install a condensate pump and it would not be covered by the warranty. I did not receive a proper diagnosis of the drainage issue nor an explanation as to how this condensate pump would resolve the unknown/undisclosed issue. I also did not receive an explanation why it would not be covered by the warranty, other than "it wasnt possible to know for sure if a condensate pump was needed." This uncertainty was not communicated in the original job quote. Ever since Milani realized that this job is still under warranty, they have been completely unresponsive and ignore my requests for support. I tried escalating the issue but could not get past the office person who claimed that both the technician and the manager were busy. They have since offered me a 30% discount on the quote by email, still without any follow up calls to clarify the issue.Business Response

On Oct.31/22 ***** from Milani diagnosed issue ($236.25) being motherboard. Nov.16/22 ***** came to install the new motherboard ($827.33) and my furnace was working. A few months later igniter failed, I called Milani but wanted me to pay another diagnostic fee before attempting work so I replaced igniter myself. After the igniter failed 4-5 times I had the issue diagnosed by **** at **************** May 26/24. After a couple hours, **** was able to determine the motherboard installed by Milani was the correct board but they did not install the conversion kit that comes with the motherboard (he checked with multiple suppliers, all state it does not come without conversion kit). The conversion kit (new wires, a mounting bracket for new igniter, and new 120v igniter). My igniter kept failing because Milani left the 80v igniter in and I kept replacing the same one since I was going by installed igniter part# since the 120v igniter was never installed.I contacted Milani when I learned this and Milani told me nothing they can do as cannot prove it. I asked them to send a technician check if conversion kit installed/contact their supplier to confirm motherboard to come with a conversion kit which would prove the issue. They said they cannot help me. Even the notes on the receipt by the stated old motherboard removed/new one installed nothing about conversion kit. They seemed more interested in replacing my whole furnace as quote on that as well. I then emailed Milani and the response was out of the 30day warranty window. How am I to know not all that came with motherboard was installed if I am not a technician.I am looking for Milani to come and complete the job as I paid for the part that comes with a conversion kit and new 120v igniter that was not installed and not left behind. I paid for the part and service and it was technically never completed. At the very least I would like the conversion kit/igniter I technically paid for.Customer Answer

Multiple discussions have been had with the customer and explained that the service they are questioning is from November 16th 2022 and is past any warranty time line offered, exceptions can be made sometimes but in this case the following reasons are why this would not fall under one of those circumstances. Based on the fact Milani has not been on site since November 2022, almost 2 years ago. Multiple alterations have been done since 2022, that were not by Milani and were from the customer themselves and another company. Complaint: 21992574
I am rejecting this response because as per my initial message/complaint. This has nothing to do with warranty but the fact the motherboard was installed but not all the components that came with which is causing the issue. Warranty covers defect or issue with the part installed not the parts that were neglected to be installed that come in the package with the motherboard. Also without being a trained technician I would not have been able to diagnose such an issue in 30 days. If I were a technician I would not have had to hire Milani to do it in the first place. Only part that has been altered since Milani worked on my furnace is me swapping out the igniter multiple times. As for another company coming in, the company made no alterations but just diagnosed. I preferred to have another company diagnose because I had little faith paying Milani to diagnose again and admit they did not install all the parts I already paid for, but instead charge me again for that diagnosis and the parts again. Since the components with the new motherboard you can not buy separate from the motherboard. The parts needed only come with the motherboard. If Milani is unwilling to make good by coming back to complete the job they never finished, that I paid for. Then Milani could at least offer to refund me some of the money back or the parts they did not install at the bare minimum. My furnace being 24+ years old is not contributing to the fact that when Milani installed the new motherboard, they neglected to install the components that came with such as the new 120v igniter and mounting bracket along with the wires which would have prevented this issue in the first place. I paid for the part and all it's components I am due to at least have those parts.
Sincerely,
